Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

"You? No!" The word still hung in the air when death took him. :-(

RJ has moved on to the second to the last great mystery.

Harriet, Wilson, and the rest of the family ~ my deepest sympathies to you at this time of considerable and great loss.

I have had the honor and pleasure to know the Wheel of Time before it was release to the general public. I have an advanced reading copy of The Eye of the World and it is one of my most cherished possessions because the Wheel weaved this magnificent story into my life at a time when it was most needed.

He touched my life through his words. I read his story to my wife while she recovered from an illness in the hospital and I will read this story to my little girls when they are old enough.

His words will live on for generations to come. He wrote a story that will stand the test of time itself.

Sincerely with love and comfort,

My thoughts are with the family. I first picked up 'The Eye of The World' back in 1993 when I sailed the Pacific Ocean for a year. I still remember sneaking the book onto the ship's bridge and reading it during my night watch. Never have I been so captivated as I was back then reading Robert's books surrounded by 3000 miles of ocean under nothing but blackness and the stars. I remember docking in Singapore and rushing to one of the malls to pick up books three & four. Fortunately I found the copies printed in English. The three week sail from Japan to Hawaii doing nothing but reading the Wheel of Time. These memories will last a lifetime. Thank you Robert Jordan your legacy will live on.

RJ. We loved you in life. You will always be remembered fondly by your fans current and future. You fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. I know the Lord will welcome you home with a "Well done my good and faithful servent."

The Creator did not make it till the Last Battle. Light, help us.

A blessing to mrs. Harrier and all the close personal friends and relatives of Mr. Jordan, from another Italian fan.

Wow. I began reading Eye of the World while at college in 1991 during a low period of my life. For me, the books were a bright spot when I needed a break from the stresses of my life. I have recommended to books to so many as some of the best that I have ever read. RJ had a rare talent to draw you so fully into his world. While some of his characters truly annoy me I realize that this was part of his gift to evoke strong emotional reactions and bonds to the characters.

I never had the privilege of meeting RJ and was fully planning on going to a book signing for MoL to thank him for the last 16 years. I regret that I will never get to meet the man who has helped carry me through good times and bad. The world is diminished by your loss and my condolences go out to his family.

Farewell, Dragon, and thank you sharing your gift with us. I will always treasure the world that you created. May the Light illumine you, the Creator shelter you, and the last embrace of the Mother welcome you home.

The world has lost its literary luster.

I had hoped to someday meet James Oliver Rigney, to shake his hand, to see the man who constantly inspires me through his work. I wish it could take place on this world, but the Lord has willed otherwise. I like to imagine JR now smoking a pipe with JRR. What a meeting. And to think that someday I will meet them both. I await the day when I will have that privilege.

My most sincerest and earnest condolences go out to Harriet, and all of RJ's family. The times are dark, but the tunnel has a Light at the end. I hope you read this board and see the tremendous amount of support and love for you all. And I pray that Robert Jordan himself can know that as well.

Rest In Peace, Robert Jordan.

Thank you so much.

My heartfelt condolances first and foremost to Harriet and the immediate family.

For myself there is not only a sense of loss and because I'm of the same age group as James Rigney, a realization of my own mortality.

My thanks to him for the gift of many years of enjoyment - to me he stood head and shoulders above the rest of those who write fantasy novels.

My deepest condolences to the family of James Rigney. I cannot even express my sadness at this news. RJ is my favorite author, and he will be greatly missed. May God be with his family and provide them the comfort that is needed to shelter them from this great loss. Much love.

I read the news(paper) today... Oh Boy, about a lucky man who.... there then ensued 30 seconds of obscenity and profanity. Then I went to DragonMount, 1440 posts in less than 48 hours!!! where will it be in a week?!!

My condolences, To family and community. It is, however, good to beat the best estimates by 300%.

I am having an immediate on-line wake for the next 3 hours, it has been a long time since i last started drinking before noon, but this seems like a good time to do so. But as you read this, think, "To Absent Friends" AND DOWN A PINT OR A SHOT to Robert, who went down fighting, and may the choosers of the dead, fly him to Valhalla where every day is spent...

May his thead be spun out often, may he each time leave a New set of stories.

Words simply cannot express the sorrow I feel and the impact Robert Jordan's passing will have on the writing community. There simply was NO BETTER WRITER than our beloved Dragon. To be all choked up from the death of a man I never met (in person that is) demonstrates the power of his life.

RJ, you have touched more lives and souls than I think even you knew. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for, well, everything.

Harriet, may God bless and strengthen you during this time. We are all here for you!

May the Lord God bless you, bless your loved ones, and welcome you into His loving arms. I can only imagine the amazing stories being told in Heaven. I can't wait to see you there.

I've just come across the news, and, as I sat stunned at my desk, a co-worker asked as to why. I explained, and while they regretted the loss of anyone, especially a talent, they admitted to being perplexed at how stricken I was. This was a person I did not know, who wrote of characters created out of whole cloth -- people who never existed. I replied with the immortal line of Hemmingway's "no one thing is true -- it is all true." What Robert Jordan made was, and is, real. It touches people's minds, and grasps, firmly but gently, their hearts. There is no greater truth than that.

To Harriet, Wilson, and all of his family, my heartfelt condolences. He will be missed. Thankfully, his truth, which endures, will not.

Good bye, Robert Jordan, The Dragon:

"And when the stream

which overflowed the soul was passed away,

a consciousness remained that it had left

deposited upon the silent shore

of memory images and precious thoughts

that shall not die, and cannot be destroyed."

–William Wordsworth

Few have nurtured my imagination to the extent that you have; I am forever indebted. Best of luck in the next Age.

For all of us no matter what race, sex, or whatever we are. We all share together a love for WOT, the universe, and its inhabitants and creatures all created by Robert Jordan. I pray that God will bring peace to the Jordan family as they recover from this sudden event. To all the fans like me, as much as we are frustrated that he never finished the last book, let us drop these worries and remember the greatness that Mr. Jordan has brought to literature. I am very saddened by this! I hope for the best. God bless you all and my greatest regards goes to the Jordan Family, I mourn with you, but I also know that he is now in heaven chatting with the likes of the great fantasy masters before him, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien!

RIP Robert Jordan

May the Lord bless you and keep you, RJ.

After Tolkien, the next fantasy book I picked up was Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, which above anything else, has inspired me to write. This was a world of detailed imagination - something that went beyond Tolkien in its characterizations but still managed to eke out a lush and amazing image of grandeur. My adventures with Rand, Mattrim, and Perrin have spanned a decade. Thank you so much for giving me these stories, RJ.

Rest in peace.
