Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

God bless his memory, he will always be with us in spirit. My deepest condolences and prayers to the family, may he rest in peace with God forever. And we should be thankful that we will see him again, someday. Rest in peace, Dragon.

Harriet, Wilson and the rest of Mr. Rigney's inner cirle,

No words can take away the pain of the loss you are experiencing, but I offer my condolences as well. RJ was no doubt my favorite author. No one could spin a yarn like him. I'll miss his humor, wit and wisdom. I've read his WoT twice through and will be looking for some of his other works as well.

Thank you, Wilson, for highlighting RJ's faith recently in this blog. Knowledge that he is with his Maker in eternity always helps those who are left to bear the loss. You will see him again. I look forward to meeting him as well...

My condolences to RJ's family and friends. My prayers are with them in this sad time. Robert Jordan was my most favorite author, and I will miss him greatly for he was one of the greatest writers, in my opinion he is up there with Tolkien.

Thank you RJ for all the many hours of enjoyable reading you have given me.

I was devastated to hear this bit of news on Monday. It came as a total suprise. It is a deeply sad time but also a great time to revel in the joy that was brought into the lives of millions because of the work of Robert Jordan.

May the Dragon ride high on the winds of time!!!

So his thread has finally spun out of the pattern, despite such a valiant struggle to overcome his cancer. I had so much hope for him... throughout his documented illness I saw signs that he would triumph. This is absolutely heartbreaking.

The world has lost a truly extraordinary man and brilliant artist. This man brought more happiness to the lives of others than most people can ever hope to achieve.

Goodbye James Oliver Rigney, Jr. Your life may have been cut short, but your legacy will live forever.

Dear Harriet and family, and all Wheel of Time fans.

It brings a tear to my eye to have to write such a message of condolence. On behalf of all at Runelords, the site of RJ's fellow Tor writer David Farland, and on behalf of my good friend Dave himself... well I'm lost for words. This is difficult to write.

The condolences we offer are a paltry thing, but they are out there for you all. I first read the books as they were back in 1996, and was an avid fan from the start. I had the game, the companion guide, and lived in expectancy of the next book being released.

An author has truly made it when he has the respect of his peers, and as such I have pasted the following email from David Farland.

My regards to you all

Matt Harrill (Lord Za, admin of the runelords forum)

Dear Matt:

I was sad to hear the news. I've never met Robert Jordan, but I always had the hope, and I have a deep respect for his work.

I don't know if Tor has made any arrangements on the next novel yet. I suspect that they will ask someone within their ranks to help out, but I don't know whom it might be.

Of course, it would be an honor if I were asked to do it.

Best Wishes,

Dave

RJ, I hope your last days brought you peace and contentment. You were an inspiration, an indomitable spirit. I am ashamed that I was hoping you would spend your last days finishing the book.

Harriet, Wilson, my deepest sympathy.

I'm in shock, as I'm sure are all of RJ's fans. What can I say - my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. We are all diminished by his departing, the world has lost a giant. I don't know what else to say...I've been reading his books for years, he's my favourite author, I was/am desperately looking forward to reading the conclusion of the WoT. Again, I'm sorry - we'll all miss him.

It’s no small thing when a Dragon passes away, and I am humbled by it. Because it is nothing compared to losing a husband, a father, a brother, a friend... And though the world mourns for the loss of Robert Jordan, I wish his family and friends all the strength - saying goodbye to Jim.

There are no words that can begin to do justice to RJ. His amazing works let us step out of the mundane drivel of life into a world where anything is possible. He will be sorely missed, but I know he would be proud of knowing how many people's lives he touched.

Thank you RJ, you will be missed.

It's possible to grieve strongly for someone you've never met. This happened to me on the passing of Frank Zappa and again for the amazing guitarist Michael Hedges. Today is another of those rare days with RJ's passing, and for the same reason -- the amount of creativity and pure life force displayed by the man we've all lost has enriched so many lives, including mine, that his passage is a hard blow to the planet. What a loss. My condolences to Harriet and all of Mr. Rigney's friends.

My father pasted away seven years ago. He introduced me to the Robert Jordan books, and long before he died he gave me a signed copy of Crown of Swords. It is one of my most prized possessions.

It feels like I've lost another part of my father with Robert Jordan's untimely demise. But I will always have the words he wrote and the book my father gave to me and the emotions felt by reading the Wheel of Time series.

My condolences to the Rigney family in this time of grief. It's hard to say goodbye. Maybe just think, until we meet again.

Life is a dream.

All dreams must end.

Who says it's really an "end" though, right?

Even so, my condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in Peace Robert Jordan, you'll be missed.

From one more among hundreds of fans that have the series memorized,

May he find the last embrace of the mother as he put in his books. He was well loved, by family, friends, and fans alike and I know that I and all of my friends whom share in a Wheel of Time game will miss him much. Might he find peace in his new place of rest and know how many people he's touched through his all to short a life.
