Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

I want to express my deepest sympathies to all of Mr Rigney's family and friends in their time of loss. I have been reading the Wheel of Time series since 1991 and have always considered the books to be of the utmost quality and filled with extraordinary realism, an irony considering the genre in which they belong. RJ wrote with a keen insight into human nature and was able to make his charcters seem vividly alive at times. From the moment I first picked up "The Great Hunt" at a wide eyed age 13, I was hooked on the series's incredibly rich tapestry of detail and exhilarating sense of adventure.Staying up hours past my bedtime to sneak in another chapter, I drank in Jordan's world wholeheartedly and without hesitation. Even years later, when I departed from the series at times, I would always come back to the books with the sense of returning to an old friend with whom I still had an incredible kinship. When I first heard the news of RJ being stricken with amyloidosis, I was struck by his optimism and determination to beat the disease. While he may not have been strong enough to overcome this particular illness, his example of courage in the face of adversity, and his overwhelming optimism even when faced with death will surely continue to inspire his many fans for years to come. RIP Robert Jordan . . .

I have been reading James's writing since College and he helped me through many exams, late night insomnia's, and pains that we all feel now even more from his passing. His faith in our Creator God and the reminder that their is one have always been inspiring. My deepest love and condolences go to Harriett and his family. Thank you for inspiring him to create. I look forward to the day I can meet him with our maker and talk over good things we found about our lives and character in this life. With respect and Love.

Please know that we greive with you. We cannot know how deep your loss; only that ours is miniscule by comparison. Many prayers have been offered on Mr. Jordan's behalf, and will continued to be offered for you, Harriet, and of course others that were close family and friends. God be with you, and may His peace be overwhelmingly present in your darkest hour.

I got a text message from my sister last night, and just about cried. I feel an intense tear through my spirit, filled with pain that I'm sure must be tenfold for Jordan's family.

May the light shine brightly upon your spirit good sir, as you, the Dragon, carry on the Ultimate Battle into the afterlife.

Sleep well, but never wake, good sir. Sleep well.

Rest In Peace

I will never forget the joy that his books brought me, and I know in the future I will pass 'The Eye of the World' and all of the WoT series to my Children.

Even though this is something that was expected, it still comes as a shock. My condolences to his wife and cousin. When something like this happens, it puts everything in perspective.

It's odd that even though I've never met RJ, I feel very sad at our loss of him. By our, I mean his fans and followers of WoT. He was a brilliant writer and will be missed in the literary world. Thank you RJ for getting me through my teenage years with your stories. I was made fun of for reading your books, called "dragon girl" and etc. And I defended your words all the while. Even through your sickness I was anxiously awaiting the new installment of WoT. I will miss reading about your characters. Be at peace.

Wilson, Harriett, please accept my sincere condolences. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Mr. Rigney touched millions of lives, and enriched everyone with his brilliant imagination. Even more, he inspired many people with his dignity and determination while fighting a terrible disease.

the world is a little less bright.. too soon one of the brightests lights has gone out, but the embers of the flames he lit are within all of us, his fans, admirers, and we will always keep his vision, his memory alive.

my deepest condolances to his wife and family, it has been an honor sharing the love for such an inspiring guy. The impression his work made on us will never be forgot.

My thoughts also go out to the family. He will certainly be missed. As echoed from comments above, it is strange to feel such a loss for someone I don't really know. But I have read this series over and over. Each time a book came out I re-read the whole seires first. I am sure there was alot of him in those books. So maybe we do know him somewhat.

He will be missed!

When I started reading the WoT it was because I found it annoying to wait on the final volume of a trilogy, therefore I was very happy when I found three existing volumes of a story at a single blow!

Catching the idea of knowing the afflictions of old age like growing wisdom better, I can now tell you that there are several ways to broaden one's horizon ...

Thank you for allowing Robert Jordan to do so and by the way teaching me some patience.

My most favorite author in the world!!!!! what a loss for everyone, and what a talent gone.

My most absoulte blessings, and love goes out for the ones close to James (AKA Robert), his family, people he worked with, and all of his fans, but most of all to James himself.

He helped me more than anyone could ever know, during a very trying time in my life, with his work.

There really isnt anything to say that will reflect the deep sadness and feelings that is felt after reading the news. At least he rest in peace.

Knowing how much of a loss I feel right now, I can only imagine what RJ's family and close friends are feeling. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. The WoT books have given me so much for the last 15 years .... I hope and pray that Harriet, Wilson, and the rest of RJ's circle are doing okay right now. Lots of love to you all.

My heart aches... it feels so strange... it's been since i last had visited the forum... and i chanced here today, as though dragged by an invisible pull.

My heart aches, and it feels so srange... the sense of loss,of having lost a friend or a comrade, though one i have never met in my life. So, this is how deeply RJ had touched us through his art.

Reading his books we learnet about him as well. And now my heart aches...

To his family my biggest hug. I will pray for you... As i lost my father not so long ago i can understand their pain as well...

May God bless you all, and may His Grace shine on our beloved Robert for all eternity. I'm sure there will be neverending stories to tell in the place where he is now, and neverending people to listen to them...

We will miss you, Robert, only God knows how much we will...

My the Light illumine you, friend and may you find always water and shade...

To Harriet & Wilson, and to all the others of his family and closest friends who knew him well,

I offer my deepest sympathies to you in this time of parting. Though I did not know him personally, I counted this very talented man as one of my friends. My heart grieves to know that we will never again hear his voice, or see his smile. At the same time, it is with some thankfulness that I can reflect that James no longer feels the pain and exhaustion that this illness caused him to bear.

I lift his survivors up in prayer, that they would know God's personal touch in this time, and that they could be comforted by His grace. That they may rest comfortably in the arm of Him who loved James best of all. I pray that his struggle and his passing will give momentum and impetus to the scientific research of this disease, that others who suffer may benefit from his death. And finally, I pray that the strength of this man--who is so loved by all who knew him--will be his own memorial, that with courage and steadfast determination he sought not only to keep at his own work, but also to encourage those others who came in contact with him who were also suffering.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss, and I hope and pray for all your future happiness.

I can't help but think of the Aiel death hymn when I think about the account of how Mr Rigney lived and died. I'm not a religious man, but for someone who has given myself and so many others so much joy with his craft, I'll turn my thoughts to him and his family. What a tough and gutsy guy to face this illness with so much class and bravery.

This is the second author who's death makes me want to weep, not just at the tragedy of their passing, but the loss of all that they might have done. (Douglas Adams was the first). I am just grateful to have been inspired and entertained to such a degree by a truly remarkable individual.

I'm sorry that he and his wife could not have had more time together.

Sincerely,

Nick P.

My deepest sympathies to Mr. Jordan's family. My own heart still aches with the news of his passing. I have been reading his works for half of my life. His words touched me deeply and I am happy to have had a chance to meet him. I will miss the words he did not have a chance to write, and cherish the ones he did.

There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time.

But it was a ending.

With Love,
