  1. As Mara heard Jural explain about what he did for a living, she almost burst out laughing, going as far as to bite her tongue trying to hold back until the thief-catcher was done talking. Light, this was rich. If he only knew the amount of Tairen ships she sank so far, she doubted he'd even have tried to talk to her... But that was the difference between a Sniffer and a thief-catcher, it seemed. As she saw him blink at her, she regained the self control she had been fighting over, allowing her to at least explain herself.

    - "Heh sorry, silent joke. Ya'd be surprised how little difference there is 'tween thieves an' thief-catchers at times. Only difference ah suppose is thief-catchers askin' more questions before accepting. But tha's okay."

She nodded as Jural asked her if his hunch about her was right. He was, and though there were few others that would walk into an Inn armed like it was the most natural thing in the world she still had to admit that it had been a fine guess.

    - "Aye, a captain ah do be. Got me ship in the harbor afore settin' oot o'er the seas again."

She emphasized the 'do be' in an attempt to mimic the Illianer accent despite her Tairen appearance. Reason being someone walking past the two of them wearing the colors of a High Lord's House, and as he glared back at her she replied by holding her middle finger up at the man. By the Creator, how she enjoyed getting on the High Lord's nerves...

  2. Jelana grinned as Braelin mentioned betting his belt knife. She glanced briefly at Ghaul, a sparkle of amusement glinting in her eye as she decied to fan the flames a little more. Though she didn't really know Ghaul, chances were he'd be similar to the Aiel she did know, and would react similarly to the taunting and boasting that the Aiel of her age tended to do amongst themselves. Clan Chief or no, Aiel were Aiel.

    - "Careful Braelin, not all of us are young. You might just end up losing that knife..."

She chuckled, unable to contain her laughter any longer. If Ghaul reacted like she thought he would, reaching the Oasis in two days had now been upgraded to a point of personal honor. As for her, she was looking forward to it. Light, she'd be at that Oasis in two days even if she'd have to get past Leafblighter to do it. And besides, maybe Braelin would live up to that boast of his after all, though she was going to give him a run for his money if he thought her easy to beat!

  3. Martyn had been watching, painfully aware that he could do nothing with the block on him. That one time in Shienar it had come easily, flows of Fire and Earth blending together with weaves from the others in a vortex of death raining down on the Trollocs that assaulted their defenses. He watched as Rasin was the first to fall in the battle, Arath putting on quite a fight despite being outnumbered.

As the death of Makim heralded the reappearance of Covai, he knew Brent was now done for. Leaving the Storm Leader to be finished off by him, he instead entered the field as well, heading straight for Arath. He did not intend to join the battle himself, instead focusing entirely on Trollocs, trying to relive the moments that he had channeled, dredging up memories of how he felt, what he felt and teh feeling of nausea and death that had soaked so deep into his skin he had often wondered if it was ever going to come out again. Probably not.

He channeled a shield of Earth between Arath and Brent, trying to protect the likely weakened man from getting caught in the crossfire. He himself was heading there as well, to check on his wounds the only way a soldier knew how, by covering him from the enemy until further order. It should be mentioned that his shield was a bit erratic, the connection he had with saidin hazy at best, but should Arath have the strength to reinforce it a little it would most likely hold.

The Taint was a blessing for once, providing him with the disgust needed to keep channeling.

  4. Aeryn entered the classroom, looking around and seeing only the teacher present. She went to the front of class to sit where she could keep a close eye on the teacher as well as the chalkboard for the lesson. As she was waiting for class to begin, more students started to arrive and she had to wonder how many Novices would be in an average class of this kind.

Honey-blonde hair tied into a bun, she was leaning forward in her seat, simply waitng for class to begin without taking much notice of what went on around her save for when another Novice would enter the room. She was a slender woman, with fair -- though somewhat pale -- skin, wearing the Novice dress in a way that would hint at her noble heritage. Though she preferred yellow over white herself, or another color that didn't unfavorably accent her skin, she supposed she was stuck.

As Claire started talking, she listened, taking notes along the way. It was a small surprise to hear about the addictiveness of saidar, and she couldn't help but think that she had already met some Aes Sedai whose hubris was getting the better of them. At the mention of the Mistress of Novices however she didn't react, she had after all been sent there once already, resulting in an extended session with Jagen Sedai. That, and she was not easily scared nor intimidated.

Still, the lesson continued, some topics covering things she had already known, others providing her with new information to add onto her growing pages of notes. One thing in particular stood out amongst them, underlined, and it wouldn't take much effort for Claire to figure out that she was going to ask a question about it. Sure enough, a hand was held up in the air after the woman was done speaking, and Aeryn asked what she wanted to ask.

    - "Aes Sedai, you said channeling is tapping into the energy of life itself. Would this mean that you are effectively taking the energy that the Wheel needs to create more threads? If i were to channel strongly, would it make a farmer's crops fail somewhere else in the world?"

It should be noted that the tone at which she was asking would be a neutral one, much like how a White would ask a question in. She had nothing for or against channeling in itself -- she wouldn't have gone to the Tower of her own accord if she hadn't -- it was just something she needed to remove one of the questions she had about the One Power as a whole.

  5. Depends on the character and the situation, really. Most of them have certain 'Theme songs' for me to help me get in their mindset. I have an evil manipulator character on another site that's got Rammstein - Rosenrot, but it could just as well be J-Pop or game midi soundtracks.

There's a few that usually strike gold, but mostly it's Youtube posted stuff.

  6. I think it worth noting that a Green Jerina would be my favourite Aes Sedai ever, and if I had to I'd force Jehaine into slave labour to spend all his time writing about her.

She tends to have that effect on people, i heard. I think Larindhra's gotten more lenient over time when dealing with her too, but i could be wrong.

btw, you should check out her Arches thread if you haven't already. ;D

  7. Asha'man bonding is more or less the same as AS bonding.  The only major difference is the method.  Asha'man originally learned the weave using it on their wives, so the bond is administered with a kiss.

Good luck convincing your reds to pucker up :)

*is suddenly very glad that Martyn isn't the Bondholder in this case*

Him being married and all ;)

  8. Arienna raised an eyebrow as the arguments that were being brought up had so far turned out to be true. Well, partially anyway. There had been a few that were wary of her eye color, but Lord Maric had not been. Her senses were much better than anyone else's, but she believed that to be because she had gotten good at it over time. She hadn't told others about her heightened senses, but as a spymaster she wasn't expected to. Though circumstancial evidence was starting to pile up, it still wasn't enough to make her feel at ease.

    - "Okay, i admit i am more alert than most, and take pride in it. My main gripe however is that people go and assume all kinds of things, like me talking to wolves for example. And wolves showing up where i've been and it being a perfectly natural thing. I live in a city, before meeting up with that guy named Erik i've never even seen a wolf, and after several days of him trying to be comforting about something that never happened in the first place, then think i'm in denial i suppose it got on my nerves a little. The argument about the senses is correct though, but as a maid living in a Lord's manor i didn't really get a lot of chances to check my night vision."

She groaned softly, putting two fingers against her temples to try and massage away the budding headache these people were starting to give her. That, and for the love of the Light why couldn't she remember a bloody thing about what happened that one flaming night for her to be chased into that stupid forest in the first place!?!

Saira looked to the side as Burgundy made a comment after he had helped her get up. She knew from the other lesson that he had been an archer way back, and a pointer or two would certainly come in useful. Maybe something akin to--

“I think what she needs is to be hit hard, to be flattened once, to show her that she can take a hit. After that, I think she’ll be less afraid to fight.”

    - "EH!?!"

Well that was unexpected. She just stared at the man as if he had grown wings and announced he was a butterfly. After a rather uncomfortable feeling silence of a couple of seconds, she quickly intervened. Light protect her from anyone thinking that was a good idea!

    - "No, it's not! I have a light build, i can't... How is that supposed to..."

Frantically waving her hands she tried to persuade them that it really was a bad idea. Getting hit as hard as possible, seriously... What kind of a place was Burgundy raised to say such a thing, anyway? It's not like she was built like a rock or something, she only weighed a hundred and twenty pounds!

    Saira

    *slam* OBJECTION!!!

  10. Aeryn considered the words Jagen had told her. There was indeed a possibility that she had misinterpreted the situation, but truth be told it did look a lot like bullying to her at the time. Still, she had to concede the point that the world was not a meritocracy, and that perhaps treating a king like a footstool if he treated others like a footstool would kind of quite possibly be wro-- not be right.

    - "So... Why was Estel Sedai disrespectful to the Amyrlin Seat by implying the current one would last about as long as the previous three? Isn't that the same thing?"

She looked a bit puzzled, not really sure of what to think of it or rather not seeing any difference between the two herself. Instead of giving her anger the chance to take over again, she decided to simply keep her anger in check by asking. There was a chance she was misunderstanding again, but if her temper took over again chances were she'd never find out the real answer to it.

  11. - "No, you need to work on your grip. While you're in no danger to get disarmed, you'll likely break your wrist the second you try to--"

Martyn sensed saidin being channeled behind him. While this was nothing odd on the Black Tower grounds in itself, something felt off about the location from where the feeling was coming from. Looking around, he soon found out that his hunch had been correct, and several people were channeling quite furiously from a location nowhere near the fields used for channeling practise.

    - "Right, class dismissed. Work on those points people, i expect to see some progress next week."

As he calmly made his way over to the stable area so that the Soldiers studying weapon use under him wouldn't start to panic, that soon changed as one of the buildings collapsed. Biting back an oath, he turned around, shouting an order at the Soldiers before they would realise what was probably going on, do something rash and wind up dead. He liked his students too much to see that happen.

    - "Get to the barracks and pull out as many people as you can, drag them out here if you have to! After that, Soldiers will get the civilians in safety, Dedicated support the Asha'men and help out the wounded, full Asha'men assess and engage... What are you waiting for, GO! NOW!!"

Though technically a Soldier himself and thus being outranked by virtually anyone, he still knew his way around battle, and hoped his presence in the Shienar disaster had given him some credit among the men. Whether there would be consequences for him taking command as he had was something he honestly couldn't care less about, there would be plenty of time to handle it when the Tower wasn't going to burn itself to ash.

He then apparently countered his own order by running over to the stables, assessing the situation for when the main force of Asha'men would start to trickle in. Though channeling still posed a problem for him unless it was against Shadowspawn, he was certain he'd still be able to do some good if he adopted the same tactic used against Trollocs when his unit would try and sneak around them to form an encirclement. It felt odd after this many years, but he hoped the drills had been thorough enough not to be forgotten from disuse.

    Ordering people around

  12. Mara nodded, though she did not take up the hand that was offered her. Though there were benefits to being a ship captain, there were also responsabilities, and one of them was never to appear weak in front of the crew. Or at all, for that matter. She took note of the man's name, apparently satisfied when she couldn't recall having heard it before, but waited with giving her own until she had left the inn.

    - "Name's Mara."

Though she wanted to give her last name as well, she ultimately decided against it, bringing up the argument that Jural hadn't given his either. In reality though, she knew she was in Tear, and the name of Novares would be likely to ring a bell. Though it was a source of annoyance that she was forced to carry her father's surname -- her mother had done that at the time, and she never managed to find out her mother's surname before she had died -- Tear wasn't that big for the name of a High Lord to be that common. She knew that she would also be wanted for multiple acts of piracy against Tairen ships. Overall, plenty of reasons not to bring it up, and no reasons why she should.

    - "So, what'd you do fer a livin'?"

    Mara

    I am a pirate

  13. OOC: Actually, she just wanted to know if she poisoned herself or something, but herbs class works too ;D

    IC:

Melenis was up in a second, the weapon that never strayed far from her side in her hands as the shout of Trollocs still hung in the air. Not for the first time she wished she had had the same Shadowspawn sense the Aes Sedai had, but it was no use regretting what couldn't be helped. She couldn't channel, and thus had trained to be the weapon herself.

She took up a position next to Cairma to prevent the Trollocs from flanking her, and form a defensefor the Aes Sedai to work their magic behind the line the two of them would create. The first Trolloc came, and she simply let it impale itself on her weapon. Momentum pushed the corpse towards her, and she sidestepped, weapon twisting in her hands to keep herself from losing her balance.

A second Trolloc followed close behind the first, attempting to cach in on the moment it took her to retrieve her weapon. Her Warder training kicked in then, the countless months she had spent working on her Forms making her react even before it occurred to her from within the Void. Arc of the Moon to deflect the sword aimed at her head with the ashandarei's counterweight. Momentum threw the dead Trolloc off of the blade, and she continued the weapon's movement as she herself completed her spin, flowing on into Tower of Morning to split open her opponent's chest.

Next to her, Cairma was killing Trollocs at a speed that made her appear clumsy and uncontrolled, but within the Void she did not notice. There was her, and there were enemies, and her allies would provide openings for her like she would provide to them in turn. That was the essence of battle, and she felt at the center of it.

    Melenis

  14. I'd say we'd celebrate the anniversary of the Bore. After all, it was the time the DO was released upon the world, not to mention that the Forsaken are all old enough to remember it happening in person.

  15. Jerinia:

Yellow: She'd be too busy Healing the people she injured.

    White: It's Jerinia.

Gray: Negotiate? Her? Though the threat of sending her over should solve most problems, i doubt that's a doctrine the Aes Sedai want to enforce.

Brown: Within three months, the Ajah wouldn't let her near combustable materials anymore...

Green: She's too 'unintentionally destructive' as it is. Heaven forbid she'd start to blow things up on purpose.

Red: Umm... Her dad can channel. And she likes her dad.

So that leaves Blue for her ^^

Aeryn will likely go Yellow, but for IC reasons. What they are will be unveiled during roleplay.

Seriously though, Jerinia in the Green:

    - "Hey, i see a Trolloc! Die, Shadowspawn filth!"

    usnuke.jpg

  16. On an unrelated note, i think you may have mixed up my characters for a second.

Jerinia is my Accepted, she hasn't seen Estel outside of Daes Dae'mar class.

Aeryn is my Novice, and the one that actually talked back disrespectfully to Estel in A Sorrowful Return. I think that may be the referrence you made when Estel sat at the table with Jerinia and Melianna in class ^^

  17. Arienna frowned, wondering what the woman was talking about. Prosecution? Their own kind? Come to think of it, that Erik person had been mentioning the same thing, apparently convinced that people were out to kill them because of the color of their eyes or something equally paranoid. While it had turned out to be true that everyone in the 'sanctuary' he spoke of did indeed have golden eyes, she was still more than a little skeptical of them all, though curiousity was itching for questions to be asked as well now.

    - "There you people go again with the prosecution thing. Why does everyone assume i've been run out of where i lived with torches and pitchforks just because my irises happened to turn gold? Lord Maric's physician looked me over and said i was fine. Light, i feel fine, and why anyone save for the most paranoid of Whitecloaks would want to kill me based on my eye color is honestly beyond me."

She looked at Aislyn and Rhya again, confusement and irritation at being confused starting to overpower the reluctance she had to talk. These people didn't look like Tinkers, so why were they so eager to be a sanctuary to her from the big bad world? Despite her intentions not to, she imagined the founder of this small community to be somewhat disturbed in the head.

    Arienna

Is this a branch of Tinkers?

  18. OOC:

Jerinia looked surprised as Estel sat at the table with her and started cutting the deck. One worried glance at Melianna showed that there was a chance she would be losing those bells to someone that wouldn't simply give them back later that night. But fortunately for her roommate, she had made her preparations in advance. Reaching down to her lap, her hands found the smaller pouch of coins she had intended as a reserve.

Before picking up her cards she coughed in her hand, using her free hand to launch the small pouch of coppers under the table against her friend's legs, trying very hard not to look at her as she intently studied her cards. Those knowing the red haired Accepted as well as her roommate would be aware that she hardly ever studied anything that intently. Oh, she had good marks and all, but also one of the longest list of accidents -- and subsequent penances -- out of pretty much anyone in the White Tower, Aes Sedai included.

    - "Hmm... I'll match that with a favor then, and raise you twelve Malkieri minted coppers."

She looked at her cards again, a pair of twos and a five. Not the best of hands, far from it, but she did not want to have Melianna risk losing those bells to Estel. Even if that meant owing an Aes Sedai a favor. Though she couldn't keep the emotion off of her face, it should be mentioned that she showed a little too much emotions, flipping through concern (for Melianna) to disappointment (over her cards) to excitement (betting against an Aes Sedai) in the blink of an eye. In itself, she ended up hiding her emotions by being unreadable in a different way, though she was completely oblivious of doing so.

    Jerinia

    Mood swings yay!

  19. Though Aeryn believed to have been prepared for anything, the laughter was certainly unexpected. With the anger ebbing away to manageable tresholds now she ignored Jagen's insults of her parents, now being able to see the Aes Sedai as perhaps being misguided, or at least having a different opinion than her when it came to things like this.

    - "Well, a king should be treated with respect, i agree. But only if he acts like a king. Also... My parents weren't that bad, i just have... trouble controlling my temper. Irian's usually around to defuse the situation before it gets out of hand."

That admission about her temper brought on a small blush on her behalf, embarrassed that she had manuevered herself into a situation where she had implied an apology for her actions. Though she still stood behind what she had said, she had to agree that the way in which she said things was often a bit too... controversial to most people's liking.
