  1. (OOC: Sorry for the long wait and the sucky post.  I had Asha'man syndrome :()

Seyneru frowned as he saw Linten spread out the jacks in the snow around them.  "Well, I'm not entirely sure about that, Linten Asha'man.  I am a bit tentative when it comes to experimenting with weaves of the One Power.  What I am doing now might have some additional side effects that none of us would know yet, until perhaps it was too late.  But I could try."  he finished off, looking at the jacks jubiously.  Saidin churned in him, a storm waiting to boil over and consume everything in its path, a roaring river, trying to sweep his mind away, an avalanche trying to bury him, and an inferno that tried to burn all that he ever was out of existance.

Strengthening his grip on Saidin, he wove the same strand of Earth and Fire again, this time hovering on top of a part of the circle.  The jacks vibrated and jumped upwards, clinging to the insubstantial weave, bobbing up and down where they were.  Seyneru then looked at the circle, and swept his arms around in a circle, turning his body as he did so, moving smoothly around Linten, whilst leaving tracks in the snow.  The weave followed his movement around the circle and swept up the jacks easily.

He then started to swing the ends of the weave around and around, spinning it faster and faster.  The jacks whistled through the air over their shields as they swept overhead again and again.  Finally, when Seyneru judged when they had gained enough momentum and speed, he simply let the weave dissappate, and the jacks, with no force to keep them in place in the circle, literally flew out of the clearing and into the forest.

Seyneru smiled, a little shamefaced.  "Sorry, Asha'man, that's how I would do it, but I think you might need to replace the jacks later, if I can't find them."

  2. Seyneru stood, poleaxed, as Daevis stated what he wanted them to do with the blocks of wood in their hands.  Carve an animal from a block of wood?  With fire?  Seyneru grimaced and looked down at the stone in his hand.  Learning Saidin had not been extremely easy for him, but he had made it so far, and he would make it through this task.  When they were dismissed for the rest of the day, Seyneru simply took his brick and strode off into the woods outside the Tower.  Snow slithered and fell around him, the crystal flakes glistening in the weak sunlight.  Seizing Saidin and dividing his flows two ways, he created a globe of light so that he could see, and wove Air and Fire to heat the air to comfortable temperatures.

Tying off both flows, Seyneru looked down at the block of wood, frowning slightly.  How to go about carving an animal from this piece of wood, he had not much of an idea.  Saidin filled him with life, but at the same time the taint made him want to sick up.  Saidin made that feeling worse.  Ignoring and suppressing it into a corner of his mind, Seyneru channeled as thin a flow of fire as he could and touched the block of wood gently with the weave.

The block of wood started to smoke, and turned the area the weave touched the block black in colour.  Flakes of wood started to drift away in the slight breeze, and Seyneru's eyes narrowed in concentration.  Channeling, he shaped the weave until it resembled the animal he wanted - a dog, and inserted it into the wood.  He then waited for a short while, allowing the weave to take effect, then released it.  Taking a flow of air, he narrowed it to a hair, and struck the block, the weave hitting the block with a solid thunk!

The block of wood split apart, and Seyneru smiled at the resultant figure of a dog that he held in his hand.

  3. Wilemi listened intently to Carina's words, a bit confused at first at what she was saying, before Carina explained.  Keeping knowledge of the knowledge alive?  If the knowledge was there, wouldn't there be knowledge that the knowledge was there in the first place?  How could such knowledge die?  Wilemi's eyes were distant as she considered this, missing the smile and laugh that Carina shot at her in response to her apparent confusion.  Wilemi gazed into the ceiling, drinking in what she had heard, before jumping and coming back to herself as she realized that Carina had been asking her a question.

Scanning her memory, she found the question (about the size of the library) and nodded her head in response.  Carina continued on as Wilemi absorbed her explanation.  She now saw what Carina meant.  Carina did not mean that people forgot that the knowledge was there, but the fact that people forgot where the knowledge was, what the knowledge was, and could thus be very important in a crisis, be it political or in strategic warfare.  She had always viewed the Brown Ajah sisters as scholars who were to be respected for their wisdom.  But the Brown Ajah now seemed to her to be so much more, and inspired her to be much more than just a scholar of books.

She would need a task in life besides research, and she felt now that this would be a task that she could, and would hold to, for the remainder of her life, however long or short it was.

But Carina still had not answered her first question to her satisfaction.  In fact, Carina had hardly brushed it, in Wilemi's opinion.  Temporary forgetfullness?  Or a deliberate avoidance of the question?  Wilemi decided to put the question in a more straightforward manner.

"Carina Sedai,"  she asked, her voice questioning.  "I would like to know if Brown Ajah sisters make new discoveries from the knowledge that they have gained.  Do they do experiments based on what they know, to find something new and useful?  Do they, for example, modify old weaves to serve a new purpose?"

  5. Wilemi sighed in relief as Carina's face broke into a smile at her words.  She let a grin break out over her face as she sat in the chair opposite Carina Sedai and listened to her speak.  Carina Sedai was laughing slightly, though not at her, apparently, before switching over to the lecture tone typical of Brown Ajah sisters.  Wilemi suppressed a smile, she had encountered Brown Sisters who were so used to talking so that they did not know how else to speak.  She listened carefully as Carina outlined the purpose of the Brown Ajah to her, and nodded her head in awe and understanding.

"What isn't true, however, is the assumption that the Browns are only interested in the past, when in fact every Brown is focused on the future. Every Brown sister hopes to leave something behind for those that come after her. To arm the world with knowledge, insight and understanding. Learning from the events of the past to better understand and respond to the events of the future. That is our contribution to the world. For without knowledge, understanding and insight, any action taken or not taken is but a random act with no meaning which can go in any direction."

Wilemi nodded her head, in respect and awe at the magnitude of the task.  She could now understand the reason behind the otherworldly auras of the Brown Ajah Sisters, as though they were living in another world.  They truly were, for they were not living in this world, at this age, but imagining another age in the future where every single contribution they had made, no matter how large or small, had helped the world become another Age of Legends.  How that must feel!  To know that their works and their efforts would never go to waste, but always be there, waiting to be used.

She took a cup from the table and sipped it.  It was hot and steaming, and it cleared her mind as she considered her next question.

"Carina Sedai," she asked.  "What do we do with the knowledge that we have gathered?  Do we do more research upon it and see what can be derived from this knowledge?  Or do we just gather knowledge and let it collect dust?"

  6. For how long Wilemi stood there, she did not know.  Besides coming for the books and practice, she desperately wanted to ask Carina Sedai some questions.  About the Brown Ajah.  She wanted to know more.  But she had been learnt not to ask about things as a Novice, and just accept them as how they were.  It was a habit deeply ingrained into her now, that she, a meek and shy person, did not break often.  She had learnt to keep to herself, in her own world and studies.  But Carina was looking at her, her expression now soft and kind, waiting, understanding.  Perhaps she would not take it too offensively if she asked some questions?  Should she try?  She looked up again and saw Carina's face, waiting patiently.

That decided it.  If she had to ask, she had to ask before Carina lost patience and chased her out.

"Carina Sedai..."  she said, stammering slightly, her voice slightly trembling.  But she got a grip on herself and made her voice more steady.  "Pardon me if I offend, but I also would like, now to ask some questions about the Brown Ajah.  I ... would like to be part of the Brown Ajah if ... when I become Aes Sedai.  Forgive me for being so bold, but I would like to know more about the purpose of the Brown Ajah and the contributions the Brown Ajah has made to the world at large."

She stopped here and shifted her feet slightly.  Wilemi raised her head and met Carina's eyes across the room, hoping desperately that she had not offended the Aes Sedai with her words.  Sweat started to run down Wilemi's face once more despite the ventilated and cool rooms that the White Tower normally provided for Sister like Carina.

  7. Wilemi stood at the doorframe, pausing for a slight while.  Had Carina mentioned that she would like to see how Wilemi had progressed?  Wilemi thought she had.  But interpreting Aes Sedai words were tricky.  However, Wilemi was here, and she would do the best she could under the circumstances.  She moved into the room and closed the door.  With her hands folded meekly at her waist, she lowered her eyes and said.  "Carina Sedai.  I thought that you had asked me to practise the weaves under your supervision, so that you could determine how ready I am to progress on.  And I also came to retrieve some books that I accidentally left in your rooms the previous day."

Her eyes flickered around the room and settled on the small pile of books that she had left in her rooms.  Then flickered back to Carina Sedai as she waited to see how she would respond.  The silence stretched, and Wilemi shifted her feet nervously, waiting for Carina Sedai.  Sweat started to form on her forehead in small beads as her gazed flickered from Carina to the floor.

Advanced Saidar (I still haven't got it done yet :()

  9. Estean jerked as something like a dog leapt out at her, jaws open.  Her shield of Air, tied off, blocked it, but not for long.  It lept again at her, and at the corners of her eye, she could see still more dogs leaping at the borderlanders.  She herself was beginning to tire, for channeling at such a rate forced her to wield almost as much of Saidar that she could safely handle.  She dealt with the darkhound in front of her, fire turning it to nothingness on the spot.  Then she turned her fury to the sky.  Weaves of Air, Water and Fire flashed in the air, even as clouds gathered and churned.

Lightning started to play on the sky, forking and forming prongs, never flashing the same way twice.  Then, she gestured, and lightning blasted from the skies above, searing the very air and turning her vision slightly purple with the afterimage.  She narrowed her eyes to prevent it from blinding her, and started to pick off the darkhounds, and the shadowspawn that was swirling around.  Even the borderlanders were pressing in, their strength nearly gone, their energy drained.

But she herself was tiring, slowly but surely.  She knew that she couldn't channel to such an extent for much longer, or risk burning her mind to ash.  She lifted a hand, and the lightning playing across the sky ceased, and fire swirled around her palms again.  Flinging her arms as fast as she could, she started throwing fireballs, aiming for the fades and the darkhounds.  The darkhounds were easiest to take out.  They were mindless bodies built only to fall instructions and kill.  Her fireballs burnt away them one by one.  Even if she destroyed them partially, they still reformed, and she had to blast them to nothingness before they would die.

Even the other shadowspawn, the younger fades, were dying as she threw the fireballs.  If they missed the darkhounds, they took out the younger fades that were weaving in between the men and stabbing them.  Fire churned around her palms, and she started to direct balls into the horde.  The sudden barrage of flame and death from her palm caused them to retreat back several paces, howling, leaving behind an army that sorely required rest.  The very air about her was alight, for she had tied off the weave of light, and was now focusing all her energies on sending the horde back to their master in death.

But that certainly wouldn't be easy, and another thought crossed her mind that made her wonder.

Where in the name of the Light was the other bloody channeler?

  10. Nenen frowned as she embraced Saidar and channeled.  The weave was not a very complex one.  But neither was it extremely simple either, till she could do it on the first try with a wave of her hand, like she had done the shield, though that one had been a touch more difficult than usual because of her weakness in Air and the fact that the shield was slighltly modified.  Air shot through with Spirit now, formed a ward.  Raising her hand, she moved it in a circle, even as the weave of Spirit and Air fell into place around her.

Tying off the weave, Nenen stepped across the line to test the ward.  There was a flash of light that illuminated the area around her, and a loud chime that hung in the air long after it should have died.  Nenen nodded appreciatively.  She know knew how to use this weave, to prevent people from intruding on her privacy without giving her some small amount of warning first.  Smiling, Nenen untied the weave and let it disappate, then set about to modify it slightly, if only for a bit of originality.

This time, she modified it such that the weave contained more Air, woven in a more intricate fashion than usual.  Stepping over the line this time, Nenen was shocked to find herself hauled into the air by her own weaves.  She gasped and tried to struggle, without much success, even as another flash of light illuminated the room.  Looking around desperately for the Aes Sedai, she spotted Loraine Sedai in a corner of the room, helping another Accepted.

"Loraine Sedai"  she half-shrieked, on the verge of losing control,  "HELP!"

  11. (OOC:  Only a few hours have passed after the shield fell.  And the city is several miles wide, allowing for hundreds of thousands of people to stay inside...)

Silviana spun around a burst of flame sprouted nearby.  Hissing in anger, she saw the dreadlord whom which Vora's Sa'Angreal had been stolen.  There were twenty-nine leaders of circles around her, along full circles of 72, along with Orbein, whom, wielding Callandor, could command as much power as any of the circles around here.  The other members of the circle were on the level below, helping out when they could.  But they were useless, practically, seeing as the One Power was being wielded by the leaders above.

Silviana prepared one very nasty weave of Fire that would be potentially able to burn Pherno to a crisp and vaporize the ashes produced.  Around her, she felt weaves being readied, flows being channeled.  She watched as Orbein raised his sword, then...

Pherno challenged Orbein to a duel.  Silviana immediately leaped forward.  "NO!  Orbein, you were placed under my leadership by no less than the Dragon himself, you will obey me.  Stand down.  You!"  She turned to Pherno.  "One who has forsaken the light.  You have no honour, nor do you deserve to die honourably.  Circles!  NOW!"

She let loose her weave, and Fire burst forth from her hands.  A blazing display of power shot up from the roof as weaves the strength of hundreds of channelers flew up at Pherno.  Fire roared around him, pressing around, even as winds blasted him into them.  Flows of Air, seeking to crush him where he stood wrapped around, even as others channeled clubs of air.  Lightning seared and thundered in the air, hotter even than the flames blasting around Silviana's hands.  Now was the time to pay back for losing Vora's Sa'Angreal.

The lower circles had been pushed back to the second floor, and Salima joined forces with another circle, beating back the trollocs that were rushing up the stairways, with flows of Fire and Air.  A finger was leveled, and a blazing bar of white heat thundered in the air, and lightning blasted the ascending shadowspawn to ashes before cracking against a shield.  Salima immediately threw up a strong shield of Air even as Fire blasted back at her in return.  The others in her circle ducked back around the corner as tendrils of fire started to seek them out.  They pulled the members of the other circle behind them, even as Yoru, the Asha'man leading the other circle struck back with a weave that caused the wall next to the dreadlord to explode with a roar.

It reminded Salima strongly of the Seanchan invasion, where Salima counted herself lucky to survive.

But she was more ready for such a thing now, and the defense was far more coordinated.  The Shadow were forcing themselves in by way of sheer weight of numbers and Pherno's Angreal.  If the forces were equal in number ... well, safe to say that the Light would have sent them packing a long time ago.

  12. When Wilemi sat back on her chair, she mopped her brow and sat back on her chair, waiting for Carina's verdict anxiously.  She really hoped that she could impress someone from the Brown Ajah, for that was the Ajah that she was aspiring to.  She knew that she wanted to be a Brown Aes Sedai.  Knowledge fascinated her, not for the benefits that having great knowledge gave, but the fact that knowing something gave her a sense of achievement.

However, it seemed that Carina was lessed than impressed by her weaving ability.  She sipped her tea, expression unreadable, before finally speaking.  "That was quite nice for a first attempt, child. I think that will be enough for today on these weaves. Take the tray of tea to the kitchen and get on with your other studies. You are not to attempt any of these weaves again until tomorrow. Then you will practice these until you can perform them without any difficulty before moving on to the next twenty in the list."

Wilemi blinked as Carina stood up abruptly, not seeming to care that the expression on Wilemi's face had fallen, even as she swept past to whatever duties were awaiting her.  Her back to Wilemi, who sighed and curtsied, before stooping to take the tray to the kitches of the white Tower.  Her golden hair swept past her face as she shut the door leading to Carina's quarters, and made the long way down to the kitchens, carrying the tray with a heavy heart that the day did not lighten as it progressed.

It was a few hours later that Wilemi realized that she had left her books behind at Carina's room.  But there was nothing to be done.  She could not enter an Aes Sedai's room without express permission.  She went to bed, feeling slightly uneasy.

The next day passed in a blur, seemingly speeding up in a haze of studying and lessons, before the afternoon arrived.  Wilemi this time did not bother going to the library, but instead made her way directly to Carina's rooms in the Brown Ajah Quarters.  She smoothed the banded hem of her skirts as she walked, her dress swirling around in the slight breeze wafting down the hall.  Today, for the lesson, which would require difficult weaving, Wilemi had decided to tie her hair up for the lesson in to a bob.

Her blue eyes drifted warily around the Brown Ajah Quarters as she knocked on Carina's door tentatively.
