  1. I really liked some parts of this episode but some were kinda bad imo…

I’m hoping that Perrin’s actor settles into this role because he is one of my favorite from the books but so far I think his acting has been weakest of the EF5 bunch. His confession just didn’t feel very genuine to me. Egwene’s reaction was far better imo.

Egwere really shined this episode. She’s been good throughout but this one we learn more which was cool. I enjoyed Rand’s reaction to the story Nynaeve told him.

I like how they emphasized Loial’s slowed speech pattern to make the point of how hasty humans are in comparison. That was a neat detail imo

Man, Stepin looking in the mirror and talking about how he knew all along he wasn’t worthy… that was rough. It’s pretty clear imo they are heavily foreshadowing Moiraine’s disappearance with this episode and that’s why I think they paid so much attention showing the affects of a broken Bond

I asked in Ep1 thread if Liandrin was Elaida and it seems I wasn’t far off after all  her scene outside the Hall with Nynaeve and later with Moiraine were pretty good. Clearly she’s a deeply bothered person.

So far I’m back and forth on Lan’s character. I don’t like how he continues to make mistakes that are costly but again I think maybe they are just setting up for Moiraine’s “death”. The chest thumping scene was ehhhh but once the AS joined in I actually laughed at how awkward it looked. Not a fan of that entire sequence

overall I enjoyed the episode but there were some parts that missed the mark imo

Honestly, I tend not to care all that much if the Seahawks aren't in it until the super bowl.  But this year I will be interested in how the Cardinals do.  Any of you guys watch Tom Grossi on YouTube?  Dude plays a stereotype of each fan and the Cardinals is this old grumpy granddad who cheers for the Cardinals so his grandson will think he is interesting and give him a call.  May just cheer for the Cardinals for the post season just because I like his portrayal of that character.

Can't say I've watched much YT of any variety for a long time. I'm afraid but also have a good idea of what his Cowboys fan stereotype is. sometimes the worst part of this fandom is dealing with the other fans

The Cards are an interesting team. I haven't watched them play much this year but I am looking forward to their matchup with the Boys in a few weeks. Hopefully both teams will be healthy by then because it has seeding implications

It's a device to forward the aim of the Amazon writers that Matt just might be the DR.

It says right in the quote the signs came before the rock. Cmon man ?

What makes you think that was the point rather than a way to make sense of Thom’s motives while revealing his character?

I get that the mystery is a big theme up to this point but we already know Thom is “wrong” in at least why Mat is acting weird.

Visibly ill is NOT in the Owyn story. Looking sour? A sure sign of channeling. Thom said that Owyn's life turned sour. Clutching a dagger a moment after being threatened by an armed bowman. That's a channeler for sure!

Here’s the actual quote from the episode:

“Then, one day, he went sour. Snapping at family and friends. Jumping at shadows. Animals had their hair up whenever he passed. Nobody could figure out what happened until he threw a rock without using his hands. Mat's got all the signs, lad.”

If it makes you feel better replace “ill” with another word to describe someone who is physically declining. Take it a step further and one could argue this is the first visible indicator that something is wrong with Mat, hence the closer attention on Thom’s part. He knows the Dark One is after them and is trying to figure out why so his anecdotal evidence is the best answer he’s got so far - that’s my theory anyway.

You can put your own justification behind why Mat clutched the dagger but the action compared to how Rand reacts was intentional for this reason.

Making a list of what you would like to have seen is not the same as showing it on screen. Furthermore Owyn did not get sick in Thom's story.

    Over the top irritability? When?

    Acting out/personality shift? When?

    Paranoia? When?

Wandering off? After or during the Owyn story. Since when is going outside a sign of channeling?

Immediately clutching a dagger? It's called self-defense in a world gone mad.

    These happened on screen.

The paranoia is seen with how he’s clutching the dagger while Rand tries to deescalate. This comes after seeing the horse acting skittish and a reference to it being troublesome up to that point.

Mat snaps on Rand in the stall mucking scene which is soon followed by Thom having the talk about Mat to Rand.

Mat also looks visibly ill and his demeanor overall is sour. There are plenty of visual indicators to support Thom’s theory - wrong or not.

  6. @JaimAybara how sure are we that is was the Fade?

I thought so too, at first, but I’m wondering why they’d kill the family when they could have gone straight for the boys? Seems unnecessary but then again: evil. So I’m not sure. If there was something mentioned earlier in the thread then I haven’t read it yet ?

Oh, the Dallas-KC game will be interesting too.  Sorry you won't get it.  SEA-AZ is either going to be the Hawks getting slaughtered or a good close game.

Is Murray playing? He's been out the last few games and I don't pay enough attention to know if he's back yet ?

Dallas-KC is gonna be another great one, I hope. Bummer I won't get to watch it but maybe there'll be a rematch sometime in February I can catch then ?

It's going to be interesting.  I hope Wilson gets back into the groove.

Yeah, they're going to need him to play well to have a chance. I won't get the Dallas-KC game so I'll be tuned in

Things I'd missed or wasn't sure of in my early viewing that I caught this time:

    • The dead sheep in the shape of the Dragon's fang. Awesome
    • I didn't notice there were 2 Trollocs in the scene with Perrin and his wife which makes what happens a bit more understandable in terms of why he swung.
    • Fain just swaggering away with a grin on his face. Perfect.

    ugh, Perrin ?

Fain’s casting was perfect imo. I didn’t notice the shape of the sheep, I’ll check that out when I rewatch again tonight

  10. New here but have been a fan of the series for many years.

I only found out the other day the series had been released and so far I am really pleased. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I actually like the changes and think the casting is great. I think I’m just excited this show is even a thing; I found myself getting sentimental when Tam was making that speech about the Wheel ?

I thought the Shadowspawn were well done. The trollocs are terrifying in their rightful way but the shot of the Fade watching the Bel Tine massacre was legit unsettling.

Was the Red leader Elaida? Whoever she is supposed to be she’s got the right blend of zeal and crazy to be a major problem in the future.

    Rewatching episode 1 tonight!
