Tehehe, I maintain it was all in his best interest.

Boy needed someone to challenge him ^.-

In the end remember it was Cadsuane that lets him go live a normal life...and also becomes the Amrylin. Begrudgingly ?

So she's not all bad ^.-

I dunnoooooo she rubbed me the wrong way ?

    I'm definitely a Rand/Nynaeve fan

    1. Which Aes Sedai do you think will make the cut? And why?
    2. Are there any prominent Aes Sedai you think won't make the cut? And why?

    3. Are there any particular favourites you'd particularly like to see?
    4. Are there any characters you'd merge together?

    1. I think Alviarin and Cadsuane are the two most likely to appear (along with Siuan of course)

    2. Part of me honestly thinks they might cut Elaida and give her role to Liandrin. Not sure on that though

    3. I would LIKE to see Elaida, but I worry

    4. If I had my choice, I'd merge Liandrin and Alviarin. I always felt like Liandrin got the boot too early. They serve similar purposes in the story imo, just at different points

  3. @CaddySedai Oh boy... I have feelings about Cadsuane lol.

If I had to spend a week with her we would definitely be fighting lollll. Reading her chapters in the book I was like wow she fucked up so bad. My reaction was pretty much the same as Tam's with what she did to Rand. ?

  4. There's a lot that needs to happen in 4 episodes. If I had to guess:

    - Caemlyn replaced by Tar Valon (Elaida, Morgase, Gawyn, Elayne, and Galad all introduced in season 2)

    - Tar Valon ways get used instead

    - Idk how to put this in words, but it feels like the beginning of the Great Hunt with the Aes Sedai at Fal Dara will happen in Tar Valon instead just with the stuff between Moiraine and Siuan, Rand and Siuan, etc.

Basically I think having them go to Tar Valon is a way to streamline A LOT of what happens in the end of EotW and the beginning of TGH, if that makes sense. Less work for season 2 that way with the only outlier being the Caemlyn plot.

Welcome JackieQ.  You are more than welcome to discuss the book series too.  Never too late!  What's been your favorite thing about the books and the show?

So many book moments haha. I think my favourite was probably Rand on top of Dragonmount in book 12. It just sticks out in my head for some reason.

As for the show, I think pretty much all of episode 4 and how they're handling the mystery of the Dragon Reborn.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with this.

The Lord of the Rings was an adaptation.

Game of Thrones was an adaptation.

Both of them had to make massive changes to fit their formats, yet (with the exception of the final season of GoT) stayed true to their purpouse.

This does not feel like Jordan's universe to me.
They are hamfisting in banal tropes left and right to make writing easier, and dumping a lot of the core lore in the process. Previous well loved adaptations of other stories prove that is not necessary.

I'm curious in what way you feel this isn't Jordan's universe? I'll admit that episode 1 (and to some extent 2) were not the greatest as far as pacing events, but I think 3, and now 4, have definitely kicked it up a lot. Episode 4, despite being the biggest deviance from the books, felt the most like the Wheel of Time to me. I'm wondering if your opinion has changed at all since the last episode aired.

I feel like a lot of the changes are to serve the season's mystery of "who is the Dragon Reborn," which wasn't really a think in the books. And, honestly, I really like them and seeing non-book fans reacting!

  7. I think the most likely to make the cut are Ishamael (literally already mentioned and shown ;)), Lanfear, Asmodean, Graendal (since she killed Asmodean and plays a big role with the mind control stuff later), Moghidien, and Demandred.

I honestly don't remember what the rest of them do in the books other than Rahvin fighting Rand for like 10 minutes in book 5.

  8. Some reveals I'm excited for:

    - The wolf dream and the dream world being the same thing

    - The forsaken being back

    - Rand is an Aiel

    - This is "our" future after a hyper-advanced society falls

    - The Jain Farstrider reveal

General moments I can't wait to see:
    - Mat, Moiraine, and Rand in the Stone of Tear with the arches

    - Everything in Rhuidean

    - Dumai's Wells

    - Cleansing Saidin

    - Rand atop Dragonmount

    - Mat in the world of the Finn and the Tower of Ghenji

    - "It's just a weave"

  9. I really liked the time spent on capturing Logain. Episode 4 is miles better than the other 3 so far despite being the most different from the books. I also liked the romance being built up better (Lan/Nynaeve) and getting to see the life of warders. It makes them more multidimensional to have scenes like the campfire. Honestly, warders kind of bored me in the books with how stoic they all seemed to be at all times.

As I noted on another thread, I have converted my non-book reader brother to watching The Wheel of Time series. He is enjoying the series. Yesterday, I learned that a young soldier on my team watched Episodes 1 -4 over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. Although he is hooked for the rest of this season, he told me that he likes "The Witcher" series on NetFlix better. His current theory as to who is the Dragon Reborn is Nynaeve. He thinks that the the "ginger guy" won't be the Dragon Reborn but will be bonded to Egwene.

He is interested in reading the books, however, I told him to not start reading EoTW until after the end of season 1 on Amazon. I don't want him to get any spoilers from the books before he finishes watching season 1.

This is awesome. I love hearing non-book reader perspectives on the show. My friend said, and I quote:

"I've seen a lot of anime. Rand is the only redhead of the main cast, so he's probably the Dragon Reborn."

People come up with theories from everywhere I guess!

So far my only real gripe is that they have forced in diversity for the cast, and so most of the people dont really look like how I imagined in the books.

I can see where you're coming from. The way I think of it is that during the Breaking, people were scattered all over the place. I read the diversity in every town to be a result of that. I think it's mentioned in the books as well. Though I will say that some place as separated from the rest of the world as the Two Rivers would probably have a more homogenous population over the years, but I digress.

I'm loving the show so far! (Especially after episode 4)

  12. Hey everyone! I made an account over a year ago, but forgot about it. I figured since the show is coming out that I'd try to be more active! I read all the books over the course of a few months last year while I was working at the hospital. It was a nice escape while COVID was in full swing. I immediately connected with the characters, and this quickly became my favourite series of all time! Excited to discuss the show with some people! 2020 was far too late to be involved in book discussions haha!

    Cheers!
