I could see that after his role in Man of Steel.  Pretty sure strong consideration was given for age gap with Nyn.  Henney is 40 but doesn't look it.  Most of actors I initially liked look more 50.  Coming around to Henney though.

Agreed, and a craggy Lan with a young Nynaeve was probably never going to happen ? at least Moiraine looks so different from the books that a prettier Lan fits in a way.

I get making changes but man I wanted the craggy soldier Lan.  At least they could give him some facial scars or something.

I wanted the craggy soldier Lan too. I really wanted Michael Shannon to play him! He's got the height, the cold hard eyes, and the ugly-yet-still-attractive-somehow face ?

  3. I'm excited ?

I was bummed for a bit when the cast was first announced and I realised how different from the books it was all going to be. But at the end of the day I got over it, as they aren't going and rewriting the books on us (although I would be ECSTATIC if a certain word were to be balefired from existence (yes, I'm looking at you Mat, with your 'saidared'!)). They aren't rewriting the books, just adapting them, so the show was always going to be different. And to be honest if they faithfully copied the books straight to screen, that would bring its own problems and probably wouldn't be watchable for different reasons.

So I'm excited to watch Rafe's interpretation of one of my favourite fantasy series of all time, because no one's done it before! And if it sucks, I'll definitely be sad and angry, and annoyed that I signed up to Prime for nothing, but the books will always be there to be re-read, being comforting and feeling like home.

I just can't wait to see where the show goes ?

  4. Also, there is this, from tGS, chapter 13. Gawyn is sparring with two Warders, Sleete and Marlesh:

"Sleete carried a heron-mark blade and was near-legendary in the White Tower for his prowess. He was said to have bested even Lan Mandragoran twice out of seven bouts, back when Mandragoran had been known to spar with other Warders."

To me, that reads as though Moiraine has been back to the Tower in the past. More than once, really (back when Lan used to spar with the Warders, and then later on when he wasn't doing it anymore).

    ??

  5. Yay the bio has been approved ? I'll post a novice-wandering-the-tower-grounds--who-might-she-bump-into type thread soonish.

To clarify, all novice/Accepted posts go on the retro boards?

    And what is discord?

    ?

  6. Been poking around in here a bit lately, so just wanted to say hi ? I've been a fan of WoT for a long time, and used to RP back in the day, though I haven't done it for years and I miss it.

It seems quiet around here, but I think that will suit me. It's taking me long enough to get a novice bio together as it is ? but it is slowly coming together, and I'm looking forward to RPing with you guys soon ?

If it had been a long enough time for her to do it, I would have guessed this time period was where she gave Myrelle her instructions to pass Lan's bond to Nynaeve - I'm not sure she had time to get to Tar Valon, or make arrangements to meet Myrelle somewhere, though.

We see later Moiraine tell Lan that before they left the Tower she'd made arrangements for his bond to pass to Myrelle when she dies, which would have been before Moiraine knew Nynaeve existed or had any inkling that Lan would be falling in love during this adventure.  Later, when caught with Lan among her warders, Myrelle tells Egwene that Moiraine had instructed her to pass the bond to Nynaeve specifically.

She had to have communicated with Myrelle at some point between the end of Eye of the World and when she went through the red stone doorway with Lanfear.  Since she was thinking about it to tell him about passing the bond shortly thereafter, that would be my best guess, if the timing worked out.

EDITED TO ADD: This would have been a good reason not to take Lan with her IMO.

How about if Moiraine, while she's busy trying to manipulate Rand, and RJ's busy trying to make us think she might be Black, skipped off somewhere, maybe to the capital, stayed there a few days, and sent a letter to Myrelle telling her about Lan and Nynaeve. Who could a Green think be a better Aes Sedai for a broken Warder than the woman he loves??‍♂️ ?‍♀️
