Kinda surprised this character is still active considering I haven't been around for over a year. I'll resurrect him if that's OK, though it looks like there aren't many RP's going on right now.

I was around on westeros.org back in the early days of GOT and I doubt we would have ever needed a reminder like the one above because we never needed to discuss politics (as I remember). They simply tried to perform as faithful adaptation as they could of the source material (before they ran out of books and it all went wrong). Where a character was black, mixed race or other they were such on the show. When they were gay the same. GOT is one of the most successful shows of all time.

To @RDY's point, I googled the RJ cast. I'm pretty sure it is some random person's dream cast that they titled oddly. Anyone: correct me if that is wrong.

Do the fades even need an actor? I always imagined them being CGI'd. I doubt they'd spend the big $ for an actor for characters with no eyes. Who knows, though - I've been known to be wrong. ?

Huh, that's funny. I personally think the Nynaeve casting is fine and have hesitations on the Egwene casting. To each his own. ?

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Perrin does have brown hair, the cover art is wrong in that regard.

I think a lot of the arguments are occurring because of vague definitions. How dark are we talking about Two Rivers folks? Like, dark black, or just tan caucasian? Somewhere in between? People seem to not know which and they equivocate on the definition all the time. 

I give that my arguments are somewhat lacking. (Although, Perrin with brown hair instead of red still kind of makes my point. It is rare, though not impossible, for a person of color to have brown hair.) I still think it makes the most sense for the characters to be white, but I will admit that it's probably just personal opinion.

Also, that guy suggested for Fain was super creepy and pretty much perfect.

OK, @imlad no worries. You're not attacking me, I'm not defending myself. I just want to make that clear. I have no intention of getting involved in a pointless internet war.

First, I assume that it is reasonable to infer from the cover that Perrin is white. He's pictured as white and red haired and bearded. I doubt the cover would be wrong.

Bold. That's word that comes to mind when I think about these casting decisions.

I mean, they cast three people of color in roles that are described in the book as white characters. I don't really have much of a problem with that, though it was a bit of shock at first. Not how I imagined them, certainly. But I'll probably get used to it. Plus, I think Sam Elliott's southern accent just became a bit less of a stumbling block for his chances at Thom. (I know, I know, he's not going to get the role. But I can wish.)

Here are my judgements on the casting  so far (disclaimer I have only ever seen Rosamund Pike on screen. Never even heard of the others before today):

Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred: 10/10. As far as I'm concerned, this was a perfect casting decision.

Barney Harris as Matrim Cauthon: 9/10. I think he should fit nicely into the role. The only reason I don't have him as 10/10 is because he wasn't my dream actor for the role.

Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara: 8/10. As I said, I was a bit taken aback when I saw that they cast a black actor in the role. But then I thought, why not? Rutherford has grown on me in the past few hours, and I think he might actually do a great job. My imaginary picture of Perrin has literally gone from Logan Lerman to Marcus Rutherford.

Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor: 7.5/10. He looks the part in some pictures, but not in others. Can't seem to find anything wrong with him, but he doesn't excite me too much.

Zoe Robins as Nynaeve al'Meara: 7.5/10. My reaction with Rutherford coupled with my ambivalence about Stradowski.

Madeleine Madden as Egwene al'Vere: 2.5/10. I'm sorry, I really can't see it at all.

Well, that's all. Here's hoping Sam Elliott gets Thom.

I'm hoping for casting news (like, I presume, most other people).

"...and here I am," concluded Andar, with a slight bow of the head.

Yoran gave a low whistle. "That was a most interesting story, Traveller."

"I agree. Tell, what is your story?"

Yoran waved the question away. "Me? Oh, I'm just an honest blacksmith down on his luck."

In that moment, Andar realized the man was likely a thief. He certainly wasn't honest, else he wouldn't be in this particular establishment. And he certainly wasn't a blacksmith. He didn't have the build for it. Andar looked down to see if his gold coin was still on the table. Indeed, it was gone.

Yoran was standing up to leave. "Thank you for the story, Traveller. I enjoyed it. I wish you good fortune in your ventures." He started to walk quickly but confidently towards the door.

Andar removed his weapon of choice from a pouch on his belt. It was a circular metal disk with razor sharp edges, and a large hole in the middle to use as a grip. He had picked up the use of this rare weapon in Arad Doman. It was used primarily for throwing, but Andar had adapted it to use successfully hand to hand as well. He always carried a stock of about ten.

He aimed quickly and threw. The disk flew across the room and bit into Yoran's hip, just shy of hitting the bone. Not a fatal or even particularly damaging attack in the long term, but extremely painful. Yoran sank to the floor with a cry of agony. Andar calmly walked across the room, removed the disk, and then rifled through Yoran's pockets. He found his coin, and deposited it into his own pocket.

"Poor luck," he remarked apologetically to Yoran. "I figured you out. No hard feelings. In fact, you'd be welcome to join my band if you like. Assuming you can find us - I've stayed in this city for too long. I need to move. To ... travel, in fact." With a short bark of laughter, he exited the tavern, leaving behind him a groaning Yoran and a stunned room of patrons.

Within a few hours, Andar Traveller and his (rather optimistically named) Hordes were on the move.

I always preferred Taim. Until he was definitely evil. Then, I had no preference.

I was disappointed that there was never a big moment where Rand, Logain, and Taim were all in the same room. That would have been pretty cool.

Pineapple on pizza should probably be a crime.

Kidman's fine by me. I'd be interested to see Kate Winslet, though.

Also, not sure if Morgase is the kind of character who needs a big name. I wouldn't be surprised if her role is drastically trimmed.

"...and so I deserted the Children of the Light. They tried to track me down for a little while, but I gave them the slip in Caemlyn and then turned around to Altara. Stayed in Ebou Dar for a while. Bloody insane down there."

Yoran flinched. Andar had noticed that he flinched whenever Andar swore. It was quite amusing.

Andar had been talking for almost an hour now. Yoran had been listening attentively all the while, though he often interrupted to ask questions. It was getting on Andar's nerves a little.

"Anyway, after I offended a man whose wife had, in my defense, not told me she was married (how was I supposed to know that was what the knives meant?), I decided to high-tail it out of there. And so I travelled aimlessly for a while, eventually earning my name of Traveller-"

Yoran broke in. "Who first called you by that name?"

"I'm getting to that, so stop bloody interrupting you flaming son of a goat!" Snarled Andar. Yoran, horrified, stood up from his chair, seemingly ready to flee the room.

Andar glared at him for a moment longer, then burst out in a chuckle. "I'm jesting, I'm jesting. Don't worry. I apologize."

Yoran, relieved, sat back down.

Andar continued. "People have trouble taking a joke these days. Never lose your sense of humor. It's a valuable asset. It can be used to distract an enemy, used when bargaining to break the ice, used to cheer yourself up. I'd be dead without it, I can say honestly."

Yoran nodded. "Wise words."

"From a wise man," replied Andar. "Now, to your question. Actually I myself first used the name. It was in Amadicia..."

@imlad I've only ever seen David Straitharn in Lincoln, which I now will never see the same way again. LOL.

Andar grimaced. "Buy yourself a drink. And get comfortable. This will take a while. Let me think ... where should I start?"

"The beginning is always worth a try," suggested Yoran.

"I suppose it bloody is at that. Very well then. The beginning..."

Thanks for all the help, guys. I've decided that my purposes for this RP would be best suited by a solo RP, but like my post says - if anybody ever needs a mercenary, I'm here.
