  1. Retrieving his scarf and tying around his eyes once more, he smiled slightly.

"After the beating that Kynwric gave me earlier, this is nothing that a little rest won't take care of."

Tucking the wooden katana into the back of his belt, he unstrapped the sheathed katana from his back, holding it point down much like a cane, the steel end-cap of the sheath looking somewhat worse for wear after a year of being used to probe the path before him.

"I am sure I can remain civil from here on. I do apologize for my earlier words Belig. I am tired and didn't think before I spoke", chuckling, he continued, "I trust I'll see you around the Yards another time?"

  2. "What say we even the playing field a little? I'll even let you think you're at an advantage with the blindfold, if it pleases you..."

Even the playing field, eh? Sure... why not?

Tying the the black scarf around his eyes once more he smiled slightly.

Taking the wooden katana in his hand once more and settling into a guard stance, he turned his head towards the Tower Guard with a smile. "Ready when you are..."

Lunging at D'Ashan, Vanion suddenly twisted sideways, stomping down on D'Ashan's lead foot and trapping it as he threw his left elbow towards the mans face, his wood katana lancing our towards D'Ashan's gut at the same time, the trapped foot keeping him from retreating.

  3. Shaking his head and pushing his anger down firmly, he couldn't help but wonder what this fascination was with the fact he fought blindfolded.

Fine... they wanted to see what he could do without it? So be it...

Taking the black scarf, he tied it around the pommel of his wooden katana, the ends flaring out in the breeze. Without warning, he suddenly exploded into motion. Catching D'Ashan off guard with Unfolding the Fan, taking him solidly in the gut, he then spun around him, using his own forward momentum to his advantage as he hooked the flat of his katana underneath the man's chin, pulling back hard to throw him on his back.

Quickly pivoting on the ball of his right foot, he then launched himself at Belig.

To hell with the sword training, he thought.

Waiting for Belig to raise his shield for the attack that was sure to come, he suddenly leaped off his forward leg, spinning in the air to strike the shield with that same foot, all his weight kicking down at the shield to force it out of the way. Reversing his grip on his wooden katana at the same time, he whipped his elbow out at the side of Beligs head, the wooden edge lying against his forearm to the elbow, Belig's lathe just catching it in time to avoid having his head split.

Landing on his feet again, he danced back and few steps, the katana still held in a reverse grip as he settled himself into an odd guard stance that allowed him to keep both of the other Trainees in his sight. The majority of his weight on his back leg, and his left hand slightly raised to fend off an strikes that may come through his center line.

    "Anytime you are ready, gentlemen..."

  4. Smiling slightly, even after taking some abuse from Belig, this seemed so slow. This man moved nowhere near as quickly as Kynwric had, and even then, he'd had Kynwric on the defensive a few times. Might as well make this interesting.

Well, aren't you going to get him back for that?" She asked pointedly. "I'm sure the Accepted helping out in the Infirmary will enjoy twittering over you again so quickly..."

Oh, I'll get him back, thought Vanion.

Striding towards Belig in perfect balance in The Heron Spreads Its Wings, his wooden katana suddenly arching out horizontally in a tight arc aimed for the neck. Knowing Belig would be bringing up his shield to defend and create an opening, he waited until he heard the shift of feet, then suddenly pivoted on the ball of his right foot, reversing the arc to come around in a tight spin, dropping lower into The River Undercuts the Bank, his wooden katana slashing out at Belig's left right knee.

Hearing Belig quickly back step to avoid having his knee broken, Vanion pressed his attack with Lightning of Three Prongs, thrusting for Belig's chest. Hearing him shift to parry the thrust, he quickly turned it into a slash, taking Belig solidly in the right side, catching the lower ribs. Settling into The Creeper Embraces the Oak, Vanion bagn circling Belig, his sword always in motion, presenting a new threat, never leaving him open for any single attack for very long, constantly shifting between high and low guard stances as he continues circling.

"Whats wrong Belig? Blind man have you on the defensive?"

  5. Manners... true, he could have show better manners, but he was still somewhat touchy since his fight with Kynwric. Admittedly, he had been short with Belig, and ge did regret it.. though not as much as he thought he was about to!

You bloody wool head! I've done nothing to pick a fight with you but it's apparent you want one!"

Vanion heard him rushing in, the air whistling from his shield. Quickly bringing up his sheathed katana in both hands, he took the shield blow with it, then stepped to the opposite side to avoid the sweep kick. He heard the man moving and picking up a lathe... "On you guard!"

...Fine then. If this was how it was going to be...

Reaching back, he pulled the hardwood training katana out from where it was tucked under his belt, then strapped his sheathed katana over his back.

...The shield... I need to be wary of the shield! he thought. This would be challenging.

"Fine. If it's a fight you're looking for, I will oblige. Lets make this quick. I have other things to do..."

He settled into Lion on the Hill, his guard set perfectly and waiting for Belig to attack.

  6. Not having been paying attention, the man was fairly close to him before he called out, "Greetings Vanion, I hope all is well with you." And he kept coming closer still...

He recognized the voice. Belig, he believed it was. From what he could remember, the Trainee had a penchant for starting fights. Grip tightening on the hilt of his katana, he raised his face to the sky and whispered, "Light, why is it always me..?"

Turning now, to face the direction of Belig's footsteps, he gave a tired smile. "Hello Belig... Was there something you needed me for? Or have you decided to try something uncharacteristic by exchanging pleasantries with others which don't involve introducing them to your fist or lathe?"

Shaking his head, he immediately regretted what he'd said as soon as the words were past his lips. He wasn't thinking clearly. He should have stayed in the infirmary longer after being Healed. Now his light blasted mouth was going to land him in a heap of trouble.

Smiling rather sardonically, he couldn't help but think, once again, that this week did indeed, just keep on getting worse.

  7. Vanion was making his way back to the Yard from his trip to the infirmary. He'd had a run in with a Warder, who he found out was named Kynwric. A dislocated shoulder, a few bruised ribs and a bruised larynx had left him feeling spiritually defeated. He'd thought better of his skills with a sword... and he hadn't even been blindfolded for their sparring match!

Leaning against the wall and sighing deeply, he tightened the black scarf tied around his eyes, making sure it was secure. Taking hold of his sheathed katana once more, he stepped through an archway and into the Warders Yard. The sounds of the other trainees hard at work washed over him virtually unheard. His mind walking down the mental trails of depression and shame.

He'd not even been able to land a single blow on Kynwric! Light, he'd not even grazed him!

His katana weaving along before him like a cane, he continued his way through the Yard, seeking out somewhere out of the way where he could practice his unorthodox style of fighting. The other Trainees had a habit of trying to trick him. He'd be sparring with one while blindfolded, when suddenly other would sneak up behind him with practice lathes.

Today's trip to the infirmary had not been his first. The worst, yes. But certainly not the first.

He'd planned to take something of a break from practice with a sword today, instead wanting to focus on what he'd heard called The Flame and Void. He had learned of this discipline a few months ago while reading, which lead him to research it further. He had been practicing it since then but was so far unable to attain the state of mind necessary. Today he would try again.

Making his way towards a somewhat quiet corner of the Yard, he should have known better than to quit paying attention to his surroundings while out in the Yard...

This week just kept on getting worse...

  8. lol sounds good.

Everyone is welcome to join in!

Oh, and Winds, as your new Sword Commander for the Ren'Shai, you had best get your butt over to our boards in the Warders Guild and make roll call, else I'll be forced to put the hurt on you!!

So, on that note, I wil likely make the topic today so we can get this thing started!!

  9. His back now pressed against a training pell with the Warder's iron grip on his neck, the man smiled and asked, "yield?". To which, not being able to breath now, Vanion simply nodded emphatically.

The pain in his left shoulder was excruciating, being pressed against the pell. The shoulder was definitely dislocated and the pain, and lack of oxygen, was causing his vision to quickly go dark. Funny, that, he thought to himself as he began to slip into unconsciousness. I don't remember putting my blindfold back on..., and his body went limp as he blacked out in the Warder's grip.

  10. I'm wanting to play around with fighting blind some more.

The point for this one would be defense against multiple opponents. While blindfolded.  ;D

Everyone ends up with pains and maybe some minor breaks needing a trip to the Infirmary, but should end with a new respect for all Trainees involved, and hopefully the start of what will later become a good IC friendship.

  11. OOC: lol I had to think of something! Only so much I can throw at you otherwise  ;D

    IC:

After having his attacks so easily defended, Vanion tried to keep in mind that this man was in fact a Warder, and that it was to be expected. Still... not being able to even land a grazing blow had been a hit to his confidence.

Eyes going wide as the Warder suddenly launched his offensive, he struggled to defend as best he could. Leaf Floating on the Breeze to take Boar Rushes Down the Mountain, the force of it driving him back a step, and the onslaught still coming.

Parting the Silk to take Tower of Morning and barely deflect it from him, but not being able to bring his sword back up fast enough to stop The Courtier Taps his Fan, instead trying to side step it, but still being caught a blow to is left should which after the pain of the hit, made the arm start to go completely numb. Not good, he though quickly, could be dislocated.

And still, the strikes kept coming! The man moved like a viper, his footwork always keeping him in line for the next attack. Lightning of Three Prongs to parry The Kingfisher Takes a Silverback, a quick sidestep to the left in order to avoid a thrust to the face from Hummingbird Kisses the Honeyrose while bringing up his lathe in horizontally in Leaf Floating on the Breeze, the force from Heron Spreads its Wings driving him back another step.

Trying to ignore his useless left arm which was now affecting his balance, he tried to move back on the offensive. The Grapevine Twines snaking out to try and disarm the Warder while stamping down hard with his right foot, trying to trap the man's left foot and keep him from disengaging and making his disarm attempt useless and following quickly with The Falcon Stoops in an overhand stab at the Warder's right leg.

  12. Trying to control his breathing, he lets his lathe drop a little lower, then suddenly darts in again getting in close to the Warder, pivoting on his right heel for The Wind Blows Over the Wall to strike down at the Warder's sword-wrist.

Trying to concentrate less on sword work now and mix things up a little bit, spins on his left heel now and throws an elbow at the side of the Warder's head, reversing the lathe in his right hand at the same time and thrust back at the abdomen of his opponent.

Suddenly realizing that he's over exposed himself, he drops down into a tight spin, bringing the sword back around swiftly in a tight, horizontal slash that is aimed for the thighs before launching back up again in Thistledown Floats on the Whirlwind, the spinning slash aimed at the Warder's neck.

  13. Stumbling back from the Warder's shove, Vanion quickly regained his balance. The man was a great deal stronger and faster than he was, so he would have to start getting a little creative.

Taking advantage of the distance between them, he suddenly rushed in, right at the Warder's outstretched lathe, dropping down into a slide kick for the man's right ankle at the last moment, his momentum carrying him under the Warder's lathe as he slashed up for the forearm at the same time.

Not wanting to give the man much time to recover, he quickly came to his knees while he still had some momentum left. The River Undercuts the Bank slashing out for the man's gut, followed by The Swallow Takes Flight, reversing the slash, lower this time from right to left, trying to take the man's knees out, while leaving him in The Swallow Rides the Air to keep himself guarded against an attack that had to be coming eventually.

  14. Blindfold still on and sword still balanced on his shoulder, Vanion turned and walked over to the stand holding the practice lathes. Picking one up and setting his sword down carefully, he walked back to where the Warder waited.

Pulling down the blindfold slowly, he waited for a few minutes for his eyes to adjust to the harsh light of the sun. It had been a while since he had seen the sun. He would stare into a candle flame each night to keep his eyes from becoming damaged when this type of situation arose.

Tying the black scarf tightly around the pommel of the lathe, he suddenly sprang into motion, Unfolding the Fan becoming Arc of the Moon, the slash starting low, aimed at the Warder's left thigh, then arcing up towards his throat to leave himself in a high guard position.

Continuing to press his attack, his guard stance suddenly turns into Boar Rushes Down the Mountain. While still somewhat new to the form, he had spent enough time practicing it to feel comfortable with it. The lathe slashing down quickly, aimed for the Warder's chest. From there Vanion quickly stepped in towards the Warder, lashing out with Low Wind Rising, aiming the slash for the Warder's left knee and angling it towards the waist.

  15. "What happens when you take the blindfold off? Can you fight without it?"

It had been some time since he fought without the blindfold, but he couldn't think of a reason why he'd not be able to fight without it.

"Sir, I would expect that I could still fight without it on. It should be easier to do, should it not?"

Vanion continued to mull it over in his mind, wondering if there was some kind of trick that the Warder was thinking of playing on him. Warders don't do that kind of thing, do they..? The other trainees seemed to delight in playing pranks on him because he couldn't see, but surely Warders were above such pettiness... weren't they?

"If you've the time Sir, I wouldn't mind the opportunity to prove what skills I have. It has been some time since I have been accorded the opportunity to spar with one of the Warder's here in the Tower."

Balancing his sheathed Katana across his left shoulder, he reach back and tugged the blindfold a little tighter around his eyes, awaiting the Warder's response.
