Sitting beneath a tree in the warders yard, Deneira looked at the note in her hands again. It had been slipped under her door, and she had had to ask someone else to read it for her, as she could only read her own name. It had that on there, so she was certain it was for her.

Going over to the tower, she went inside, and stopped the first girl she saw. Asking what it read, the girl quietly spoke the words.

    Quote:

Deneira, I have become too busy with training to give you the proper attention you need to succeed in this yard. A new teacher has been assigned to you. He will meet you under the oak tree in the center of the yard after breakfast. Do not be late, and make me proud.

    Liitha

Dene now sat there, pondering her time at the yards, awaiting her new mentor. Light, she had been there only a year, but it seemed like ages. She had had quite a time, and met many odd and fascinating people. She had changed alot over the past year, and she truly was a better person and a better warrior because of it.

Looking up, she saw the man she had bumped into a few days previous. He had started a fight and broken her nose, which ended up in her getting Healing. She still felt the effect, but showed no sign of it, while his black eye that she had left was still plainly visible.

Standing up, she put her hand on her sword, glaring at him. "You do not need to bother me. I payed my punishment, and I hope to never talk to you again." That idiot Mateo...

ooc: i think that was his name...

Mateo finished his bit of training for the day and headed off to his rooms to change so he could meet up with his new mentee. She had been assigned to him today and he had a horrible feeling he knew her name from somewhere. He had sent her a note to meet him. He hoped it wasn't who he thought it was but would have to deal with it if it was.

As he approached the spot he had told her to meet him in he realized his suspision was right it was the girl who had started a fight with him. He knew she probably thought he started it but she threw the first punch. In his mind that meant she'd started it. As he got closer she stood and put her hand on her sword hilt. She'd been here long enought that he shouldn't have to do much with her before he got her out of his hair for good. "You do not need to bother me. I payed my punishment, and I hope to never talk to you again." She was going to be shocked when she realized why he was there.

" I do need to bother you wether you like it or not you will be seeing a lot more of me I have just been assigned as your new mentor." He let the shock of the situation sink in then began asking her where she was exactly in her training. " I want to get you out of my hair as fast as possible so we better hurry your training along."

Mateo just stared at her, and a smug look almost went across his face. â€I do need to bother you weather you like it or not- you will be seeing a lot more of me. I have just been assigned as your new mentor.â€

It was like a slap across her face. This… IDIOT was her mentor? This had to be some joke! Surely the mistress of trainees would not do this to her… it was pure cruelty. This man would hold it against her that they had previously fought… and now she had to respect him.

"I want to get you out of my hair as fast as possible so we better hurry your training along." Deneira smiled sweetly, then walked up to him and stared him straight in the eyes, daring him to touch her. “Then go ahead and teach- I don’t want a mentor as stupid as you.â€

Standing there for another moment, she smirked, and then walked by him, towards the training area. Turning back at him just standing there, she put her hands on her hips, attitude just pouring off of her. “I can’t get out of your hair of you don’t teach me, sir.†She put a bite on that end word, her eyes glaring at him. Why was she stuck with this idiot man?

Liitha brushed down Yaz and looked at the sunrise, then walked up to the yard runing a couple extra laps while waiting on her mentee. She had an asignment for her today in order to train both mind and body. Hopefully let the girl gain some knowledge, and at least keep her occupied for the day, Liitha was conserned by some of the things reaching her ears.

She stoped and started streaching as the yard started filling up, Deneira should be here soon enough. Taking out a wet stone Liitha started going over her katanas, slow movements as she sharpened the thin eges of her weapons. Then she heard footsteps aproaching and looked up.

Waking up, Dene shook her head, the morning sun flowing in thru the window. Sitting up, she brushed back her hair, and climbed out of bed. Looking beside her at another body, she shook her head, searching the floor for her clothes. What was I thinking? she thought. The boy shuffled on his bed, not even waking, as she bent down and kissed his cheek. I hope he doesn’t remember my name.

Pulling on her breeches, t-shirt, and boots, with her undergarments and scimitar in hand, she snuck out into the hallway, and ran back into her room. Her muscles ached, and her head hurt. How much ale was it again? Shaking her head again, she brushed back her hair from her face and ran into her room. Dropping her clothes to the floor, she splashed cold water on her face before finding a new outfit. Pulling on her clothes, she laid down on her bed, sighing.

Closing her eyes, she shook her head, trying to get rid of her hangover. Honestly, it wasn’t smart to go out drinking the night before she was supposed to have a hard training day. Her eyes shut as she clenched her stomach. RING She moaned out, her eyes clenched. Why did the bell have to ring now?

Climbing out of bed, she strapped on her weapon around her waist, and braided back her hair before pinning it on the back of her head. Walking from her room, she ignored the stares as she walked down the halls, knowing that they had more than likely seen something happen. She had been very drunk- that was certain.

Ignoring breakfast, she headed out to the yard, looking around. She didn’t see Liitha yet, so she started running at a steady jog. After a few laps around the yard, she ran into the woods, her hair falling down from the braid. It flowed behind her as she stopped running for training, and started running just to run. Her legs began to feel free, and her hair and arms made her feel like she flew.

Running faster and faster, she stopped, falling onto the ground, staring at the sky. She didn’t dare move, just look up. The sun was rising higher, and soon she would be needed in the Yard. Standing up, her sweat-soaked body began walking back to the yard. Seeing Liitha turn to look at her, Dene bowed quickly before continuing her walk. Taking one of the two water jugs on the ground that had been set out by Liitha, she took a small sip, sloshed it around her mouth, then spit it out.

Wiping the sweat off her face, she put her hands on her knees and caught her breath. “You said we would be training mind and body today. Lets get started.â€

Liitha watched her mentee as she picked up a water botle and sloshed some water around in her mouth before spiting it out. The girl had been runing but none the less the signs of a nigth out on the town where on her. “You said we would be training mind and body today. Lets get started.â€

Liitha nodded, "yes, and its good to see you warmed up just hope you can keep the spirit through the day" she smiled, "you should think more through your preparations...now you are gonna get me something before the sun set...however what it is you need to figure out yourself, i will give you a lead and warn you that there will be no time to dally if you are to make it...if you dont then you will have to start over each day till you do make it.."

Liitha handed her mentee a litle note

    Code:

The next clue will be in a book about the place some of my roots come from, its a lost place who fougth the same cause in many ways that we do today. The golden bird was the protector of the 7 structures that named this place

Liitha had hid the next clue in the libary, unfortunatly for her trainee there was several books about the place Liithas father hailed from and as well she had made sure to stick the note properly into the book so that it wouldnt fall out just by fliping or shaking the book. She figured it would take her a couple hours.

Glancing back at her mentor, Liitha nodded, saying, “Yes, and its good to see you warmed up just hope you can keep the spirit through the day." A puzzled look going across her face, she was given a smile from her mentor. "You should think more through your preparations...now you are gonna get me something before the sun set...however what it is you need to figure out yourself, i will give you a lead and warn you that there will be no time to dally if you are to make it...if you dont then you will have to start over each day till you do make it.."

Glancing at the notes, she stared in wonder, completely lost at what was going on. Ok, so, this clue was in a book. Taking a glance at her mentor, she set off at full pace. Running through the tower, she looked around, a little lost, even asking a few girls where the library was. After a few giggles and someone pointing it out, Dene continued, running into the library.

Looking around, she realised she knew nothing about her mentor. Her only idea was that it was about a lost nation with a golden bird. Asking a brown for help, she was pointed to a back aisle. After opening a few books, she spotted something about a lost nation... Malkier.

Perhaps that was where her family was from... Dene had heard of it. Moving along the shelves, she spotted a book about the Malkier’s last battle. Picking it up, searching for clues, she found a card inside. Opening up, she found the next clue.

    OOC: which is...

Muttering curses, Deneira read over the clue again. Blinking a few moments, she turned and ran from the library. She had to go to some bloody herb shop. How many of those were to the west of Tar Valon? this was going to take all day. Well, might as well go ask a yellow.

Heading over to the infirmary, a yellow sister immediatly ushered her in and began looking over her for a wound. After explaining the situation, she finally got an answer- Darein. It was some town, just west of Tar Valon. There was an apothecary shop in town, the only one, that sold an herbal drink that would cure the worst hangover.

Rushing to the Warders Yard, she began to worry about not making it on time. At least she would know where all of the clues would be, so she wouldnt have to worry about keeping haviong to figure out the clues.

Heading into the stables, she borrowed a horse from the stable hand, and rushed out of the city. Heading out west, she rode thru woods for a few minutes before coming to a town. Looking around, she saw a sign that said, Darein Apothecary.

Heading inside, she looked around, and saw a woman with a yellow shawl on, an Aes Sedai ring, and the ageless look. Walking up to her, her mouth opened, the woman silenced her. "Deneira?"

She nodded, and was handed a bottle and a note. "Drink this... you should not have gone out last night." Drinking it quickly, she then opened the note, shuddering at the horrid taste. After a few minutes, her head ache went away, and she read the next clue.

Liitha had followed her student from the thieves highway, out of sigth out of mind and most didnt think on looking to the shadows of the rooftops, besides she knew how to stay out of view.

Her student would now have rescived the next clue.

    Quote:

It is fluid and not static, from this both the defination of the lady you seek as well as the meal you will be served (if you find it before it grow cold) hails.

If you dont find the target before your meal is cold you will be given a clue who will cost you another half hour on your quest towards the final target.

Liitha watched her student coming out of the herb shop, would she figure out she was going to the river lady before the salmon stew grew cold and was given to the cats, or would she be there in time to gain the rigth clue and a meal. She smiled, she had made several punish versus revard clues.

Reading the clue, Deneira was a little confused. What in the light? Fluid and not static. What kind of meal was that? Well, it had to be in Tar Valon. And so, to the city, she rode. It took her only a few minutes, and as she arrived back in the town, she began looking around. Running from restaurant to tavern to inn, she looked around.

Upon a sign was a fish... salmon by the look of it. FISH! that was it! And so, into this restaurant she went. A woman was in there, and she shook her head... Going to the food she was given, she took a bite... BLASTED LIGHT! it was cold. The woman gave her a note, and she looked at it... why did she have to be late?

[The next clue is in the section of who holds the power in the land of the first clue given]

Liitha watched her Mentee find the river lady, from the oposite side she could see in the window that the inn lady shook her head, Deneira would have to take the way by the libary to earn her next clue to get back on track, it would he hidden in a book about the Dark Ones minions. She watched Deneira come out of the inn, the next clue found in the libary would take the girl to the stable where a horse was sadled for her, 3 hours ride outside of Tar Valon she would find her next clue on a farm. It would leave her back to the yard to the Armory where Liitha would be waiting with a gift for her if the sun wasnt set by then, if not then a new note where she would find the clue that would start her out next morning to try again. Liitha had hopes thoug that despite everything her mentee should manage to overcome the obsticles today. The girl was brigth enough anyway.

Reading the clue, she knew about it immediately. Shadowspawn and Dark Minions... just what she wanted to read about. And back into the tower library she went. Jumping back onto her horse, she ran into the tower again. Up the stairs she went, and rushing as fast as she could. She wanted to get this done the first time, the right way... after all, it was only halfway through the day, and she was bound to make it.

Into the library she went, and after asking directions, headed into the area that held the Green Ajah based books. She picked up the one about darkones and minions, and flipped through it. Another clue fell out, and she smiled. Yet another one that she knew about... She had to go to the stable, and then off to a farm... she had passed it on her way to the tower.

Leaving the library, she ran into someone... someone NOT wearing a white dress. “Oh, Im so sorry...â€

A warm silence spilled across the great library like so much of the finest honey; bringing with it a peace and calm which she scarcely recognised any longer. Perhaps only here where the sisters guarded their stillness so jealousy could one find an outer harmony to quiet inner turmoil. Only minutes needed to pass before any trace of her usual slight frown, dark brows drawn together a fraction as though she had forgotten whatever had irritated her in the first place but kept a shard of that ill temper, smoothed away leaving peace in its wake. Easing shoulders long tensed she let the cares of the world slip away and submerged herself in this quiet place.

Idly she browsed through shelf upon shelf of books. From the dustiest tome all encased in cracked leather bindings, each page as likely to crumble as resist at the brush of fingers, to the newest book ink still wet from some author’s hard work … such a wealth of knowledge contained in these fragile pages. It still amazed her sometimes with a shadow of the unlettered child she had once been to think how much importance could be assigned to the scratchings of a pen. Now that she understood the language of knowledge, not only the letters themselves but also the deeper meaning which sometimes only players of the greatest game could grasp, now she knew the true value of this room and all the books within it.

Immersed in her work it took Sirayn some moments to realise that a scatter of separate sounds came from some ruffian running into the library. Saldaean by the tilt of her eyes and the bold nose which marked all those from that far flung nation; brown hair, azure eyes, some kind of prettiness she supposed. None of this pacified her irritation at being interrupted so brusquely. It occurred to her briefly to fix the child with the sort of glower which made strong men flee, but calculating the odds that this interloper might actually notice, Sirayn gave up the attempt. Children these days. Dismissing the incident she turned back to her leafing through books.

Ill luck perhaps that the child chose that corner to inflict her presence upon. Everything about this intrusion exasperated Sirayn who firmly believed that unmannerly children had no place in libraries and particularly no place anywhere near her. Briefly she regretted the passing of her much prized silence; yet her attempts to lose herself again in a book full of northern tales were foiled when the child moved along right behind her to scan the shelves again. In her current fractious state even the whisper of feet over smooth stones stoked her ire. The library was quiet and no red cloaked mentor lingered to intervene ... no reason not to take out her anger on its source.

The final straw came when the child knocked into her crudely as though she were merely a stable hand. Never strong, at her diminutive height and light weight she could scarcely win a match of muscles with a particularly determined frog, the impact sent her stumbling a few steps. The loss of dignity set her seething. How did the Tower Guard raise them so clumsy these days? Slamming the book shut with a snap that drew all eyes, Sirayn snapped: “Have you nothing better to do than annoy your elders child? If you had, you now have a more important task. Assist me. I am removing these books,†she indicated half a dozen titles she had earlier noted as necessary for her study, “and you will carry them up to my quarters, where I have no doubt I will be able to find additional tasks to keep idle hands busy. I am not interested in your excuses … nor, I dare say, anything else you have to say for yourself. Get to it.â€

Deneira’s heart broke, and rage streamed through her eyes. Bloody Aes Sedai... they had no right to interrupt in warder business. Just because they had been given special powers didn’t make them the leaders of the free world. After all, without the warders, they would get no where.

Following silently, all of the books in her hands, she kept up, looking around. At least while she was here, she might as well see what happend in the tower. She saw paintings and people she was confused by, and her mouth dropped open more than once.

â€Keep up child.†The Aes Sedai said. “Yes ma’am.†muttered Deneira. She was led into some office, and put down the books on the corner of the desk. “If there is nothing else you need from me, I have another obligation...â€

It did not interest her in the slightest what her latest quarry thought of being commandeered in so cavalier a fashion. Indeed, a sorrier specimen of children these days she had rarely seen. Now and then a discreet sideways glance caught the shadow of some fresh startlement, an open mouth on one occasion, but Sirayn did not check her inexorable progress any more than she showed recognition that this was a strange place full of strange people for newcomers. Ruthless as ever she directed them straight to her quarters lying at the heart of the Ajah Halls. A narrow silver sword in stern colours inlaid upon the black door marking her rooms. Rarely did she permit any stranger to enter this, her much prized sanctuary, but sometimes a little discipline had to be exerted. "Books there." A careless gesture indicated the corner of her already burdened desk. Only after some startled moments did she realise she had, yet again, employed her left hand for the task ... or rather what remained of her strong left hand, spinner of so many weaves; not to put too fine a point on it ... a stump.

Presumably that was disconcerting for strangers meeting her for the first time. Cursing her own indiscretion and her failure to master old instincts Sirayn lowered the ruin of her left hand, casual so as not to draw any further attention, and determined not to slip up again in future. Priding herself as she did on her intimidation she was nonetheless rather startled to hear the child speak so brazenly protesting of her responsibilities elsewhere. Had she in some way given the impression that she was the type of Aes Sedai to whom one talked back? Perhaps it was the effect of the missing hand, the weakness so obvious in that lack, somebody who had had her by the throat ... not so figuratively speaking. Regardless she was not about to permit it in her own quarters.

"I thought for a moment there that I heard you speak." A precise lift of one brow underlined everything the cool tones told. "Did I misspeak myself or did you somehow not hear correctly when I told you I had no interest in your excuses? Your ... obligations," a trace of sarcasm there to sum up what importance she placed on the child's duties, "are of no importance to me. Once I release you from service, or you somehow make up for your conduct, either way, that is when you will be permitted to go about your dubious obligations. For the moment, be so gracious as to hold your tongue until I instruct you to speak." Having thus she liked to think asserted her control over the situation Sirayn indicated, this time with a judiciously chosen wave of her good right hand, the massive book cases standing along one wall; holding a hundred books in various stages of disintegration, from the fabulously old and valuable texts she had saved from certain of her missions in the past, to tomes with the ink scarcely dry.

"Regrettably you are not the only youngster with no respect for learning around here and your predecessors have disorganised my book collection. Sort the books into alphabetical order and if you so much as tear a single page, I shall not be amused. You do, I trust, know your letters?" It would have been an odd child who browsed the fabled Tower Library without so much knowledge, but Sirayn was getting accustomed to other people's strange customs by now. "You may get to work."

Turning around in shock, Deneira muttered curses. This woman was crazy. She couldnt read... and to mock her so... "I cant read." she said softly. "You cant what?" the aes sedai asked, as if she couldnt hear. "I cant read, ok? I was pointed to the books I needed, and in the books were clues that were read to me by a novice."

She was embarressed, and ashamed. "Obviously, I cannot help you in this task, so I might as well just leave." She turned as if to go... she had errands to run, and a lesson to finish.

Couldn't read? It seemed beyond belief that in a citadel of such learning people were incapable of comprehending a single word ... this treasure trove could bring kings to their knees but for some apparently it was as incomprehensible as the Ogier script had proven to her despite all her attempts. Incredulous, she nearly inquired as to whether Deneira had been born in a barn, but perhaps on second thoughts it would not be diplomatic to criticise ignorance. Children these days had so little respect for the written word. Briefly and vividly in spite of her best efforts she imagined something else into the pretty face ... older features, eyes of a startling sapphire hue, such strength in the lean face similar to her own. Remembering did nobody any good; but maybe in her heart she had softened a little toward lost children ever since she gave up one herself.

"I will inform you when you are permitted to leave." Despite the harshness of her words her tone remained cool, somewhat moderated from her earlier snapping, and gently Sirayn removed a book from the child's hands. “Here Barret’s Age of Panic is filed after Cal Peren’s On the Rise and Fall of Nations. Barret is a lesser writer I admit … and somewhat obsessed with the effect of economic shortages during the latter half of Hawkwing’s rule … but he does, at least, take precedence in alphabetical terms. I also had no letters when I came to this city," so smoothly she switched onto another track that a listener might be forgiven for being startled, though inwardly Sirayn kept a tight constraint on how much she was admitting to such an unknown, "and it proved quite a handicap in writing essays, I recall that much. Nevertheless, this is a place of many possibilities. If a wilful child like I could learn ... so can anyone."

A little light spilled in through the window, filtered through leaded glass panes, to fall pale across the stone floor. Methodical as anyone from the Brown Ajah Sirayn moved along the rows of untidily stacked books, sorting and filing, distracted in her pursuit of order. Age of Panic returned to its rightful place despite the many flaws in its construction. "Being illiterate is nothing to be ashamed of, little one, and it is fixed easily enough, should you have the will to learn. There is much to gain from books and learning. I have neither the time nor the patience myself. Should you wish it, I can arrange tutoring for you perhaps with another Aes Sedai. Think about it."

Dene didn’t even want to look in the Aes Sedai’ eyes. She was so ashamed, she never told anyone. She didn’t even let Liitha know… the only one was her roommate, and from the way he had acted, it was almost a crime. She had kept it secret enough, and she was fine, not knowing how to read.

"I will inform you when you are permitted to leave." The woman still spoke with a certain hardness, but it did not have the cruelty that had earlier frightened Dene so. She felt the book in her hand be taken, and she let it go happily. If something happened to it, she was certain she would be dead.

“Barret’s Age of Panic is filed behind after Cal Peren’s On the Rise and Fall of Nations. Barret is a lesser writer I admit … and somewhat obsessed with the effect of economic shortages during the latter half of Hawkwing’s rule … but he does, at least, take precedence in alphabetical terms. I also had no letters when I came to this city," something in the woman’s voice changed, as though she was almost… consoling? No, Aes Sedai didn’t do that. "and it proved quite a handicap in writing essays, I recall that much. Nevertheless, this is a place of many possibilities. If a wilful child like I could learn ... so can anyone."

Dene just hung her head, almost afraid to look up. She didn’t trust this woman- not in the least. She would never trust something she didn’t understand… it was as though asking for certain death.

Looking up, Deneira held her head high, and stared into the woman’s eyes. Perhaps that was a mistake, but she had something to say, and would be taken seriously. “My father never read. My brothers never read. They were perfectly fine. I see no point in reading, when I can merely ask someone else. Doesn’t it seem more logical to you that I spend my time training, so to better protect the tower, than to spend it reading?â€

She stood there for a moment, then bowed low. “I thank you for the offer to arrange a lesson, but I am well without reading. I am certain that one day, I shall learn, but at the moment, my weapon is the only tool I need. By your leave, may I return to my work?†She knew that by this time of day, there was no chance she would be able to continue her chore, but perhaps Liitha would understand.

How much odder can life get?

  3. A relaxed calm lay over Tar Valon under the welcome warmth of a clear sky; the burning orb above bathing the city in light, a symbol for which it stood and served. Even the Tower, where the sun’s rays picked out sparkles in the pure white stone of its existence; ever present and watching seemed a less concern. The streets, as always a mass with people and hawkers, moved in a cyclic fashion like the ebbs and flows of the ocean. The laughter and lighthearted conversation that rose from the mass washed over Corin and he drew it in, warming his heart by it’s presence.

Often he walked these streets of late, but always seeking; listening to words and meanings not given life by the tongue. Daes Dae’mar underlined all he did out on these streets; driven by her purpose and his uncomprehending need to please her. But unlike a traditional day here spent seeking out the quiet words that tried to lay in secrecy; sifting through rumor for information she might use. He pushed the plotting and scheming aside and drank deeply from the simple ignorance so many here lived by.

He had changed so much since the wide eyed country boy had arrived at the docks, dreams of adventure and travel filling his mind. Dreams the yard had slowly beaten and honed from him. Naivety and innocence she has cut from him with a surgeon’s skilled grace; the cut so clean and quick he had not felt the loss until it was too late to retrieve. Bright youthful eyes full of life and emotion now replaced with eyes more often then not void of true emotion; games and cautious observation now his companions. The boy back then would probably never recognize the man he had become under her guidance and tutelage. But as one door closes another always opens. A simple though but one that again came from her teachings; much he owed her in so short a time.

A shiver raced up his spine and shook his shoulders briefly as if to toss off the heavy burden. Today he was interested in life and innocence again, the game was always there and could wait if only a few hours. She would never see it that way, but he was not so long in its hand as Sirayn and refused to let it completely harden his heart beyond reach. A small grin grew; so natural the smile felt for once as it made a home on his face. Two boys darting amongst the travelers on the street caught his eye. Each held a small stick in hand and stopped occasionally to duel one another; carefree laughter rose up from them; surrounded them. Willing the image and sensations to burn into his mind he watched as they raced back and forth across the street toward him. Day dreams of a time at home racing with his brother when innocence was still his own filled his vision in shimmering scenes of forest and fields.

A dull pain in his shin brought vision back to clarity; side stepping quickly to miss yet another wild blow from the stick. The boys darted past engrossed in there duel as he continued to back away, mirth dancing in his eyes at their sight. Bumping into a table brought him around in a start as tinwork began to slip from the table and clatter on the cobble stones. A matter only made worse as his attempt to catch the items ensnared his leg and sent him careening into a women at another table. A series of tinkling crashes announced his presence as the two went sprawling to the ground. Surprised laughter erupted from his throat; vision impaired by dark locks that fluttered across his face.

Still chuckling he pushed back up on his knees and looked down on the unfortunate women he had accosted. Her long dark hair sprayed out over the back of a white shirt as his eyes quickly surveyed her frame; making note of the form fit of the breeches across her backside. Rising to his feet with an approving grin he reached out an offering hand. “Sorry about that, I hope I didn’t hurt you. Let me help ..†the remaining words stuck in his throat, tongue frozen, as his eyes caught the suns glint off a ring. You blind fool, look what trouble you have bough yourself now. Daydreaming was bad enough, but look, an Aes Sedia. How will you explain this one fool the thought taunted him as his eyes briefly widened in shock.

The serpent ring of an Aes Sedai adorned the hand bushing back dark hair that had fallen across her face. Corin dropped into an immediate bow, noting the sword at her hip with slight curiosity. “I apologize Aes Sedai, it was clumsy of me to have knocked you over. I am terribly sorry, are you hurt?†He strained to catch a glimpse of her face from the low position of the bow he still held.

A smile. Just a smile. That would make her happy. She had had the Dark One’s own luck in having a hell of a day previously, and it was only fitting that her night be the same. She had spent all the previous morning, training with that bloody weapon, only to spend more time on her buttox than she spent time standing.

Of course, Aran would not even give her a small break, however much he knew she had to give lessons that afternoon. He knew she despised teaching novices, and he knew that the girls were not her favorite group… this was extra help for those that struggled. Of course, that meant more of a chance for a mistake.

Well, a mistake did occur… and one of the light-blasted girls burned a rug. And Christine, being a sister, could not show her anger, unless she wanted a crying novice on her hands. Instead, she finished her lesson, then made the girl stay after, and practice the weave… which took all night. It seemed like she got no sleep, and if she had stayed in bed, surely, Sirayn would have dragged her out of it.

So, she rose from her bed, and went for a run. That would help to keep her awake and moving… she would have to go to bed early that night. She ran for what seemed like hours before running into… Aran. Literally. And that fool of a man had the audacity to tell her, an Aes Sedai, that she was no training enough, and made her practice for another hour.

As soon as she had caught him needing a breath, she had rushed off, telling him she had elsewhere to be. She was tired of responsibility, and novices that failed, and annoying teachers. She had been an Aes Sedai for five years, they had no right to make her do as they pleased. 37 years old, and she couldn’t even do as she pleased…

And in town, she landed herself. Stopping at a small restaurant, she ordered a glass of wine and a small loaf of bread with meat and cheese- a good midday meal. There were lovers at a nearby table, and a cobble game going on a few more tables over. There was a group of trainees running around, and then a few boys running about, tossing a stone between them.

There was laughter, and pleasure, and she merely sat there, unable to smile. She saw no happiness and no pleasure in the world around her. Light, she would leave this place now, if only she had the courage to tell Sirayn that she was sick of living under her command.

A man got mixed up in the kids running by, and ran into a nearby table. She left everything else on the table, but picked up her glass of wine, taking a sip as she watched the fool man. She almost started laughing until he knocked into her, her hair falling out of the pins, with him laying overtop of her.

She heard him laugh, and she sighed as she looked at the glass in her hand… it was empty. She would need to ask for more wine. Setting the wine glass down, she smiled at him as he stood. “Sorry about that, I hope I didn’t hurt you. Let me help...â€

She brushed back her hair, and he was staring at her ring. She stood on her own, smiling as he was in a bow, low enough to satisfy the rudest of the Aes Sedai. Not even the Eldest Sitter could fault him.

“I apologize Aes Sedai, it was clumsy of me to have knocked you over. I am terribly sorry, are you hurt?†She looked at him as she stood, whipping off her pants with her hands, and smiled, then started to laugh. He looked up in shock, and she smiled at him.

He rose from his bow, and she just kept laughing, before calling over a servant, asking for two glasses of wine. He stared at her blankly before she caught her breath. Light, she didn’t know what it was, but when a man bowed down to her, it just made her laugh.

Grinning, she offered out her hand as he bowed again, introducing herself and answering his question. “I am perfectly fine, no worries, I needed the laugh. I am Christine Segreto, Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah, and do not worry, I am not one that you should worry about angering.â€

He seemed to loosen up and tighten up at the same time, and she gratefully accepted the glasses of wine brought to her, offering him one. “And who are you that you so eagerly stumbled into me, good sir?†She took a sip of her wine, still offering him the other glass.

Laughter greeted his apology as he rose to stare blank faced at the women who was now finding breathing difficult with her outburst of mirth. After ordering another drink she offered her hand and Corin dropped once again into a comfortable bow; a light kiss placed on the back of her knuckles as if addressing a high lady. He rose again, puzzlement struggling to find a place on his face. Her Ajah, Green, struck to close to home to allow him to relax completely. Grey penetrating eyes void of emotion; seemingly empty of thought itself, watched in the silent darkness of his mind and kept tension from leaving completely. Not the one I should worry about. I really hope you are not talking about the person that comes to mind. The thought curled around the tension in his shoulders to keep it tight and fresh.

“Good day Christine Sedai, I am Corin Danveer of the Tower Guard,†he offered to her question as he found his voice once more. The glass she held extended to him further added to the confusion swirling in his mind. She was like no other Aes Sedai he had met to date. In fact the more he met the more he realized that none of them seemed to be like any other. As his hand closed around the offering a warning in form of a vision sprung to life in his head. It took only a moment for him to recognise the telltale signs of a Domani. Lavinya’s image came clear in his mind; a large yet intriguing problem he did not wish to repeat.

A smile pulled at the corners of his mouth slightly as he tipped the glass toward her. “Thank-you, it is a wonderful day for a drink. I am truly sorry I ran into you like that. I was so wrapped up in watching the boys and enjoying this wonderful day. I forgot myself and ran into the table.†He chuckled slightly at the sound of his own words, a Tower Guard who could not keep his feet under him. He drew back on the robust wine; oak with a touch of berry met his pallet as it slide down his throat. She had good taste in the vine it seemed as the wine offered a refreshing sensation.

“I hesitate to ask what you meant when you stated you where not the one I had to worry about.†He glanced at her face from over the rim of the glass quickly looking for any indication of whom she had been thinking of. She stood at ease with the situation enjoying her drink as if nothing had happened. Life seem to fill this one and he was not entirely sure he would have guessed her and Aes Sedai had she not been wearing the great serpent ring. A carefree twinkle in Christine’s eyes echoed the laughter that had taken her earlier. He could hear the storekeeper behind him beginning to collect some of the items that had fallen when he had run into the table. Turning, Corin began to help pick up some of the mess he had created with his free hand as he waited on her answer.
