  4. @ Semirhage666: First off, We'd kindly appreciate if you didn't use language like that. You're not making any impression other than a poor one. As for the need for the additional months, that's a valid thing to ask (nicely). The answer is that the book isn't FULLY done. There's still at least dozens of small decisions that need to be made. Continuity needs to be checked. New icons need to be designed. 450,000 words need to be read and re-read for spelling and grammar. The book needs to be designed in layout. Early copies need to be produced for quality assurance, early reviews, etc. Print
  5. There are no plans to make more prequels, sequels, outriggers, or anything else. The Wheel of Time is complete. You can look forward to the Encyclopedia, which will come out in the years following AMOL. I suspect (but have no official info on this) that it will include some interesting additions, but certainly no full more full novels. Don't forget about the movie and video games that are being developed. When we have news about those, we'll post it.
  6. Brandon Sanderson has completed A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and final Wheel of Time novel. He posted a touching blog entry on his website describing his feelings on the subject, as well as his plans for the future. "I've reached the end of the journey and set down my burdens. It's wonderful, relaxing, and solemn all at once. I love the Wheel of Time. It's also great to be done." Brandon has completed and turned in the final major revision of the book to Harriet, Robert Jordan's widow and editor. She and her staff will complete final revisions and copyediting. The hardco
  7. Tor Books released a fascinating article on Tor.com today which reveals the process by which the hardcover dust jacket (i.e., the book cover) is produced. Tor Art Director Irene Gallo describes: Last week I visited Coral Graphics to do a press-check for the A Memory of Light jacket sales-proof. A sales-proof is not the final jacket but it’s pretty darn close... The full article can be read on Tor.com. Head over there to read it, and see a lot of great photos. About A Memory of Light AMOL will be released on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and audiobook. The eBook will be released on April 9th
  8. Orbit Books, which produces Robert Jordan's books in the United Kingdom, Australia, and other locations, released their cover for A Memory of Light. Click here, or on the image shown for a larger version. In addition to the cover, Orbit released the text that will appear on the hardcover jacket: And it came to pass in those days, as it had come before and would come again, that the Dark lay heavy on the land and weighed down the hearts of men, and the green things failed, and hope died.’ From Charal Drianaan te Calamon, The Cycle of the Dragon. In the Field of Merrilor the rulers of th

Darrell K Sweet was commissioned to paint the book cover. Unfortunately, Mr. Sweet passed away before he could complete it. He did complete a first draft of the painting, which he referred to as a "color sketch."
  10. Tor Books has revealed the official cover art for A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and final Wheel of Time novel. Click the image shown here for a larger version, or click here for the full resolution version where you can see Rand in all his 300 dpi glory. The artwork is by renowned artist Michael Whelan. Mr. Whelan was commissioned to do this cover after Darrell K. Sweet passed away. He will be the Guest of Honor at next year's JordanCon V convention. So, what do you think of the cover? Rand looks pretty awesome, huh? Tell us what you think in the comments below! A Memory of Light will
  11. Dragonmount is proud to present the opening section to the prologue to A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and final Wheel of Time novel. Go here to read the opening portion of the prologue. 12. Check out Darrell K. Sweet's unfinished cover art for A Memory of Light. Most fans are aware of Darrell K. Sweet's artwork, which graces the covers of the original U.S. edition Wheel of Time books. Regardless of what you think of the art itself, Mr. Sweet's imagery has become a recognized style deeply associated with the series. Unfortunately, Mr. Sweet passed away before completing the book cover for A Memory of Light, the final book in the series. But this weekend at JordanCon 2012, we've been given the opportunity to see his first draft of the painting. Click here or on
  13. I do study Choy Li Fut. But I'm not too advanced. I've only been doing it for about a year. I love it though, and am progressing quite nicely so far. Robert Jordan never indicated to me that he practiced martial arts. I get the impression he studied martial arts in the way way a historian would study history. But I don't think he ever formally trained.

  16. Tor Books announced today that Michael Whelan, the celebrated award-winning artist known throughout the industry, will paint the book cover for A Memory of Light. Mr. Whelan was previously commissioned to paint the eBook cover, but with the recent death of Darrell K. Sweet, he was asked to paint the US hardcover edition as well. Mr. Whelan: "I’m flattered to no end to have been asked to work on such a prestigious and popular project. My only regret is that it had to come under such unfortunate circumstances; I never would have accepted had Darrell been here to see the Wheel of Ti
  17. Tor Books announced today that A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and final Wheel of Time novel, will be released on January 8, 2013. Update: The eBook will be released on April 9, 2013. Here's the original press release: The first novel in Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time®, The Eye of the World, was released on January 15, 1990. Now more than twenty years later, Tor Books is thrilled to announce the official publication date for the final novel in the series. 18. Tor Books announced today that From the Two Rivers, the first half of the first Wheel of Time novel, is available immediately in eBook edition for $0.99. This price promotion will last until the release of A Memory of Light, sometime later this year. (Read our speculation on the AMOL release date.) Originally released in this form in 2002, From the Two Rivers is an illustrated edition of The Eye of the World up until Shadar Logoth. The $0.99 ebook edition is clearly geared towards encouraging new readers, as well as giving old fans a launch point for a re-read. From the Two Rivers
  19. Hi BlackAjah ... thanks for your comments. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that Tor had the following thoughts: 1. DKS has passed away and his in-progress book cover cannot be used. What do we do? 2. Answer: Let's make fresh covers 3. But a new cove won't match the old ones 4. So let's make new covers 5. But we don't have time (or budget) to make 13 new paitnings 6. LEt's use the overall excellent eBook covers People have complained that the covers dont' feature the ENTIRE art. Well, that may be true, but overall those covers represent a very modern look for trade paperb
  20. For the first time since their original publication, the first three Wheel of Time novels will be published with new artwork on the covers. Tor Books announced today via Tor.com that The Eye of the World, The Great Hunt, and The Dragon Reborn will be re-released in trade paperback form with new cover designs. From Tor.com: As Harriet MacDougal and Brandon Sanderson work to complete A Memory of Light, the final volume in the series, the timing is perfect for millions of Wheel of Time fans to go back to the very beginning, when five kids from Emond’s Field had little idea of what lay a

  22. I posted this on our social networks today:
  23. Darrell K. Sweet, the artist who painted the U.S. book covers to fourteen Wheel of Time novels, has passed away. He was 77 years old. Mr. Sweet's artwork has graced the covers of hundreds of novels, magazines, and other mediums. An icon of the industry, Darrell became widely celebrated in the 1980's, into the 90's. His style and colorful renderings set the standard for the industry at the time. At the time of his passing, Mr. Sweet was actively working on the book cover for A Memory of Light, the final Wheel of Time novel. It remains unfinished, and it is currently unclear as to whether
