  1. 2. Andor has a much larger Army than all those other nations mentioned and while Rand controlled Caemlyn he had zero hold on the rest of a very large nation. Once again, I have no idea why people are choosing to ignore what is made plain in the text. Both nobles and commoners expressed a unified desire to drive the Aiel out. They reference what has happened in other nations and vow to not allow it in Andor.

    =======================================================================================================================

As has been stated, Andor's huge army would have to be raised, trained and equipped. That would take months.

The Aiel are already there. I reallly doubt common rabble would have routed the Aiel.

  2. I feel it isn't a stretch at all to think when faced with a foe like the Aiel the entire nation would have risen behind Dyelin. Don't forget she was the one woman that would have had all the other houses support.

My point was though that they could never raise enough people to get an army together. Sure, they might get common folks to fight- and I think we'd guess how that would end. Obviously Rand wouldn't allow the Aiel to slaughter commoners like that but that isn't my point. My point was yeah they may be able to field 200,000 but unless they are already up trying to get anything that sized after the Aiel are there is pointless.

  3. Ok regarding Andor's 200,000 man army- it would take months for them to get that many men together, trained and equipped. Not to mention you couldn't hide that many men. wouldn't be much of an issue to simply take the Aiel and rout

what army was already standing, and harry any attempt to form another army. These Andormen don't seem to take t he Aiel too seriously, similarly neither did the Tairens. They learned better though.

  4. Can't really blame Elayne for going to Ebou Dar to find the bowl. You can however blame her for wasting over a month searching on their own instead of asking for Mats help, didn't Tanchico teach Elayne and Nynaeve that men can actually be quite useful at times? Woolheaded women ;P

That's one thing that is so infuriating about these books; women find men to be useless, even after they've been saved, rescued by them a dozen times. Doesn't make logical sense at all.

  5. It would be pretty tough to bet against the Aiel. But Andor does have one of the largest armed forces in all of Randland, they can field 200,000 troops so it's not exactly an empty threat.

They have that many as a standing army or is that everything they could pull together?

  6. TPoD

He’s one of them black-eyed Aielmen, I hear. We ought to march on Caemlyn and drive him and all them Aiel back where they come from. Then Elayne can claim the throne her own self. If Dyelin lets her keep it, anyway.”

And even people who thought her mother had ruined the country and an end to the reign of House Trakand was good riddance still believed Rand al’Thor an invader. The Dragon Reborn was supposed to fight the Dark One at Shayol Ghul, and he should be driven out of Andor.

Wow.. do these people even know Rahvin was in charge at all? And driving the Aiel out? that woulda been fun to watch.

    +1

That was so obvious I forgot to mention it. Terrible covers =/

Sweet used to do great covers.. I don't know why these ones are just.. bad.. no other word for it.

The cover for TEotw doesn't look too bad. Moiraine looks like a woman. But on say TFoH and TGS egad Avi just looks..inhuman or something.

  8. I read that. and to be honest I still don't understand it lol.

The Ajah Heads conspired to reunite the Tower under their control. Since two capable Halls is a sure recipe for trouble, they made sure that only 21 members of both Halls will be what one would normally consider fit for being a Sitter. That way, they could merge the two Halls back together without much fuss.

I actually think that plot wasn't too obscured for us to guess at, though I admit I had no idea who was pulling the strings.

    How did they ensure that?

  9. But that was one of my complaints.. why take 3 books to finish any of their storylines? I mean really like you said he could combined most of the books later in the series; CoT coulda been a short story like NS if you cut out the overly done baths, dress descriptions etc. All the story lines were moving along pretty well until ACoS after that moved along like it was stuck in frozen molasses. I'm reading TSR and he's still giving descriptions of characters that he did from the first book..why? No one is going to start the series on book 4, are they?

  10. I don't know if it was padded to sell more copies or not. But when you can skip 3/4 of a book (CoT) and not miss anything significant, that's an obvious problem. I would think that the story took RJ over rather than him control the story. You had four books after LoC, where the story practically didn't move hardly at all. Some big events did happen,

but take Faile for instance. It took what, 3 books to resolve that? Why?

  11. No, not every story has to be like ASOFAI, true. But like another poster stated, the "gee I bent over to pick up a quarter and wow that arrow just missed me" does get old after awhile. Ninety percent of the Perrin/Faile story line could have been edited out, and it wouldn't have hurt anything. I skimmed over 3/4 of CoT and didn't miss anything..that says something. Minute details repeated over and over just gets old after awhile, I mean after 5 books do we still need to know how slow Perrin is or how Mat is better with the girls than Rand is? I swear I've never read

in any book how women smooth their skirts to show uneasiness. Over and over..

  12. I hate the re-re-re descriptions ala Perrin is slow in thought, Loial talks like a bumblebee, each one of our Ta'vern

threesome thinks the other is better with women etc. Skirt smoothing... has anyone ever seen a woman do this is RL?

Sheesh.. oddly Nynaeve doesn't bother me as much this time around; Faile.. well.. I'm not gonna bash her, but I wouldn't miss her if he had written her out heh.

  13. It was a trap by Fain.

How did he set such a thing up?

He has some kind of power to create illusions. We see it again in Far Madding when Rand confronts him and sees the rogue Asha'men (who are already dead by this point) coming at him. Rand slashes the illusion which appears to hurt Fain. We don't have any concrete knowledge of how Fain does what he does. We see he has additional powers in ToM.

Ah ok.. thanks! I hope that gets explained at some point.
