  1. ooc: I've read about them, from the Tower Mag.

Oh and we keep asking each other what our names are *LOL* :P

    ic:

The stare of an Aes Sedai was like no other. Some were deeply investigative while some were dismissive glances that made you feel as valuable as lint. This woman's casual glances, were both inquisitive and warm. Satin could feel the warmth from her, in between the waves of wisdom and searching curiosity. But as a Novice it was her place to find out about you, and Satin knew just how to work with that. Small nuances would not escape her. She liked her face and those eyes were stunning. Deep pools of long ago knowledge. Oh how she would love, to pick her brain.

She regarded her with a nicer disposition than many other Aes Sedai she had met. Marking that in her head, she listened to her explain where the materials were and marking how she was notice ever move Satin made as well.

When she asked her her name, she was of course spoke immediately, "My name is Satin Sur' Amoura, Jaydena Sedai" She inclined her head at the end, a sign of respect and deference. Her father would be so proud.

Then, surprisingly, the Aes Sedai, went with her to help fetch the materials. Not the usual, way of some. Satin, walked with the woman, who seemed to walk so purposefully, on both occasions. Satin decided she must alway be this was. Purposeful. Another mark to remember.

The gathered up the small wooden, keg like barrels filled with the paint she wanted, the drop cloths and painting brushes. The walk again was brisk. She smiled to herself. Yes... purposeful.

The Aes Sedai had not told her her hame yet so, Once they were in the room Satin though she would ask her. The woman and she draped the room to protect the fine things she saw, beautiful furnishings, mirrors and fine tapestry rugs. The woman then asked, "So Satin, where are you from, and how long have you been a Novice?"

She paused just for a moment to wonder how much of her mother she would hide. She just didn't want the woman to matter.

"I am a Mayener. My accent is nearly gone, though. I have been here some time and soon will be eligible for Accepted testing. I can only hope to accomplish so much." A smallish smile escaped her. "I am the only daughter of Barrister Nattan sur Amoura, of Mayene. He is quite busy and seems to be popular to the downtrodden and less fortunate. His heart is open and he is gentlemanly raised. He was my teacher, all of my years. He had hoped that I would follow..." She trailed off into silence as her eye betrayed her sad, daydreaming memories of him. "Oh, pardon me Aes Sedai," with a deep curtsy and a pale blush. She want back to pulling the large canvas over the beautiful dressing table.

    Satin Sur Amoura

Going where no man has... well....

  2. Satin liked her Mentor and couldn't think of another Accepted that was such a great fit for her growth. The surprises of a lifetime, from the mundane to a wide open world of fun, pleasure and joy were new, different and at time a bit unraveling to her. Though deep in her soul she knew that without that daily influence she would backslide some.

Her mentor was, was a positive joy to learn from. She could never express that adequately, though. Strangely, she was quite aware that her outer changes were not that aggressive. She still looked like Satin. Still studied people, still analyzed the moments and all that paced through them.

Jerinia came to that one point which Satin had waited for. "Ah yes, which reminds me. I'll need to give you a penance for that,"she said. It was amusing to see her dawn the Aes Sedai posturing, that fell apart in a giggle. It made Satin come thisclose to a burst of laughter.

Well, at least the penance was not that hard a task. Helping to clean her room was not even uncommon between tower members, especially as Novices. It was a tool they used to learn about each other while they shared their chores. Well, most to them anyway. Satin never has anyone to help her. But she never expected it or asked.

Its too bad that the blue polka dotted dress would have to go. But, it was just a joke anyway. How could anyone wear such a thing? It would make you dizzy to see someone wearing dot... swishing and swaying, this way and that!

Ugh, Satin closed her eyes, to wipe clean that image.

  3. As predictable as any Aes Sedai, the woman regarded her in a fashion, well expected. Satin, stopped in the middle of a curtsy as the Green Aes Sedai had commanded. She seemed to have a bit of a hurried attitude, and so, Satin steadied herself.

The command of the Aes Sedai was short and purposeful, directing her to follow and, quickly, Satin did so. The Green was a very smart and poised woman. Satin would have to find out about her more. Very interesting...

The Green made her way through the halls as if a path had been laid, expressly for her. It was amazing to watch the Novices and Accepted curtsying away and parting like a Queen was riding through a township. A smallish smile creased her lips. One day, she thought.

They reached the Aes Sedai quarters and she nearly came to a stop, as the Green marched on steadily forward. Quickly recovering, she sped up her pace to catch up. Nothing was said... nothing yet.

The Green slowed up as she reached her door. To say the least, the door was not a simple slab of wood or iron. It was beautifully adorned with emerald, and an inlaid sword. So, this is what it meant to be a Green? The pride of the Green Ajah, the Battle Ajah was right "out there". She quickly scanned the hall and noticed, each door held a sword and some gem work. They had no reason to be shy, nor could they be. The were the Battle Ready Ajah. But just as quickly, Satin soon thought about the worthiness of all the other Ajahs. Each had their job, task and specialty to protect the Tower and the good people.

As the Green opened the door, she glided into her room and if it were possible, she straightened even more, and her air of pride grew as well. The obvious was always easy to see. Satin hesitated to go in. She felt that it was a slight to the Aes Sedai to go without a leave to do so.

But, just then the Green addressed her with an short introduction and what she wanted of her. And she was right... she had never done this before. But the task wasn't as daunting to get right. Satin was a perfectionist.

The deep curtsy, was a sign of deep respect. "Jaydena Sedai, I am ready to do this chore. I only need the paints and materials. I suspect you would like me to cover all your possessions?" She looked the Aes Sedai in the eyes.

    Satin Sur'Amoura

    pride vs certainty

  4. With the onset of realization that her Mentor had misunderstood, it was so difficult for her to keep a straight face. Yet, with such a misunderstanding she couldn't help but to feel a closeness in her heart, with Jerinia. Something Jerinia had not known was the deep appreciation she had carried around for quite some time. Inwardly, Satin was very proud of what her mentor was able to accomplish for her, with her. But as per usual, Satin never worn anything on her sleeve. Not that she frowned on it but that it was part of her core personality. Reserved, unassigned, unreadable. At least until Jerinia had taught her to "pretend". Something so small... something childlike, was lost on Satin until just recently, thanks to her.

The Malkieri custom was a fascinating story. Every bit of it, cataloged and remembered for another day, even as small a story as this.

She reveled in the fact that the blue dot had really confused her mentor and yet she too was abashed at the thought.

They laughed, giggled and sighed a few times, in between the pokes, touches and soft slaps on the arms.

But all that came to a screeching halt when asked, "Ehh.. Still though, i'm a bit curious to hear how you managed to reach my room in the first place. It's almost in the middle of the Accepted dorms..."

She lowered her chin and stared directly into Jerinia's eyes as she told her. "What every good, ill mannered Novice would do, of course. I skillfully mastered your signature, from all the paperworks you've checked from classes. I then forged a note with you requesting my presence at your apartment. I was of course, stopped and questioned by another Accepted and still, passed her test."

Satin went on with the story of how she practiced the signature, how difficult it seemed to be, and how it felt to deceive someone and have it work. She said it was, satisfying for what it was.

    Satin Sur' Amoura

    Surprises at every turn

  5. All the signs of nervousness were starting to show on her usual calm exterior. She felt short of breath and her stomach suddenly wasn't well pleased with the food. She dropped the bread on her plate and made herself relax as she chewed the beef and bread. Closing her eyes, she breathed in deeply and exhaled through her nose.

Just then, the bench she was on took on another occupant. She stopped chewing and with her eyes closed, yet darting in that direction she heard, "Umm.. Satin? We need to... talk. About the note you left in my room."

Slowly she began to chew again. Here it comes. She was about to get in trouble for the first time in her young life. She braced herself for anger, for yelling for... "You see... I love the flowers, and i'm flattered about your note and all, but erm... How shall i put this... I like boys."

What?! Her swallow nearly choked her. The girl perhaps, didn't say what she thought... no wait. She did. In a matter of two seconds, it was decided...

She faced Jerinia and lifted her chin. A straight stare into her eyes without revealing the comedy of the moment, she said, "My dear mentor. You have all the aspects of a fine woman. You are intelligent, resourceful, friendly and caring. How could anyone, not desire a moment of your.... friendship. I cannot say there weren't many times that I hadn't thought of you. You were even in my dreams." She shook her head slightly to enhance the moment, "You have patience, style and wit. Everything a person could ask for." She took a long pause for dramatic effect.

She let the smile slowly slide onto her face. A fine laugh escaped her. She grabbed Jerinia and hugged her as she said, "Oh dear! You have mistook my gesture! And though I thought an entirely different outcome, this I would never have... ever had...imagined!" She pulled away from her mentor and laughed more as she held onto Jerinia's shoulders.

Finally she said, "It was you who helped me to find this laugh, make friend and see things in my life that would have eluded me, for ever. It started with one, single blue dot." She poked Jerinia's forhead, dead center above her eyes.

    Satin

    She laughed!

  6. Once the deeds were done, Satin began to recognize the feeling of trepidation. Never had she felt that before. Yet another discovered feeling unlike Satin.

Oh, she cannot say she liked it but she knew what she had planned, what she did and what might come of it. But she was willing to move forward with the plan and swear the secrets to the other few Novices who had helped her the last few days, in making the dots. She had promised to do some of their chores, and even clean their rooms. Satin wasn't affected by much. Everything she did, saw and learned was recorded in her memory for future reference. She wasn't usually disturbed by any of it other than outright tragedy or wrong doing. That made her flinch, some.

"What is to come, will to come" She whispered to herself.

The dinning area was thinning out, though there were plenty of Novices and Accepted there to whisper to each other about Satin. Not all of them would grow fond of her, she knew that. She also knew that to grow as a person she would let them have their feelings and not worry about what they thought of her. Instead she gave them all a cool glance and purposefully and gracefully made it to the kitchens.

She wasn't very hungry and knew why. A nervous stomach was the problem. She thought a moment about not eating but then realized... if she is punished, she might not see a fair amount of food again for a while. So she grabbed a big slice of beef and pushed it between two slices of brown bread.

When she reached the table she peered around. Less than half of the dinning room was now full. As she ate the beef sandwich she wondered if Jerinia would find her there or wait for her to return to her room.

  7. Satin wasted her time in her room, preparing to sneak into the Accepted Quarters. It could spell disaster to be caught. But she barely sniffed at the thought. It would be what it would be. Plainly so. Besides, she had a nicely written note, very closely resembling Jerinia's hand writing that she had worked on for hours. It was a request for her to come to her Mentor's room and help with with something personal. The note should get her safely to the room.

The Flowers had filled her room with the most delicious of scents. It was the spicy, and sweet smell of the The Blue, Star Sapphire flowers, were a find!! This whole idea came about when a peddler, right outside the garden gates started to pass the grated gates. She saw them and the idea, had dawned.

She felt that growing familiar smile, bloom on her face. She would get used to that she thought.

It was about time for Jerinia to make her way to the classrooms. Thank the light, they were on a different floor. She didn't want to have to keep a look out for her Mentor while she moved onto her next plan. She lightly covered the flower bouquet with a white kerchief that drooped completely over the sides. She didn't want anyone to deter her from her next plan by asking about them.

She was soon standing in front of the wide, high arches of the Accepted Quarters. Several young women were moving in and out of that hallway and most, paid her no attention. She set her jaw and her sights to the hall tapestries which she loathed. They were beautiful enough but she had cleaned many of them.

She kept her pace puposeful and eyes fixed ahead. She got down the hall nearly 10 paces from her door but a passing, curious Accepted put her arm out in front of her like a rail guard. Satin didn't have to pretend to be cool and aloof. She had that mastered. She lazily looked at the Accepted and raised her brows as if asking "Yes?"

The Accepted, looked her up and then down, and back up again as if measuring her for a hole. She then smiled as fake smile asking, "May I help you, Novice? Perhaps you've taken a wrong turn? The dinning area staircase is... " she pointed, "That way..." Satin followed her stare as it lead to back out into the rotunda where the hall began.

Satin dipped a small curtsy and poised herself as if she were commanded by another, "I am on an errand for Jerinia. I have this delivery to take to her as she has requested." The Accepted looked at the covered object with a slight curiosity but Satin knew that she was being measured.

"I see. Do you have a letter or note perhaps of this request? Not that I don't believe you, you see... but things must be handled properly, so that no one is delivered to the Mistress of Novices for a lesson about rules, hmm?"

Satin balanced the vase in one hand and pulled out the hand written note and placed it into the waiting two fingers that were pointed at her. She slide it into place. The Accepted, delicately unfolded the paper as if it were evidence in a crime scene. She read it. Then, re-read it. She gave a  slight, sideway glance to the vase again, and gracefully handed the note back to her. In all that is the epitome of an Aes Sedai in practice, the Accepted raised her head ever so slightly, and stared straight ahead. "Go quickly, go quietly and do not dawdle." As she departed as if she were floating on air, Satin shook her head ever so slightly. She, whoever she was, would make for a great Aes Sedai. At least the facade of one.

She entered her Mentor's room and took a good look around. So, these are the Accepted Quarters? The rooms were larger and not as dank and dreary. Jerinia had a small basin stand near the window so she removed the basin and place the flowers there.

She wanted to admire the flowers but had no time. She got straight to work. Under her skirt she had sewn a belt pouch, to wrap around her waist. Inside the pouch were all blue dots she could carry. There had to be hundreds! She went about, scattering them onto the floor and her bed & pillow.

from the pouch she pulled out the medium jar of blue paste and smushed her pinky into it. She went about tapping dot onto a few of Jerinia's lightly colored dresses. The paste would leave no marks, once cleaned, since it has a protective, waxy base. She again, smiled to herself as she realized that this would certainly irritate her, if the tables were turned.

As she finished up she turn and took one last deep, smell of the flowers. They would last a good 5 days. She hoped that once the flowers were discovered, it would draw a little of the heat from Jerinia's temper. She covered the flowers over once again.

She straightened her skirt and primped her hair before she left, but took one look back into the room before she closed the door. This was a big thing for her. She would never have thought to participate in such a thing, before coming here.

Now, she was about to get into trouble for the first time in her life. She was nearly joyous.

    Satin Sur'Amoura

    Sweet, sweet Novice

  8. The book she had read was not at all boring as Philamena had said it was. But then she suspected Philamena wasn't as well read in this area. Satin, of course, couldn't put it down. She read it as if it were the best love story, the best autobiography or the best cook book. She read most books like that because, she loved to learn all that she could. So, a book about Bird Behavior was very dear to her. Birds were her second love. The first of course being the study of people.

Her free days were always spent this way. Reading or searching for some information on one of the current Sisters. She wanted to know them a lot more than they would ever let on. It was one of the most tedious tasks. No one knew anything... well, not really. Unless it was written in some long ago ledger or book of prophecy. Which she had an endless wealth of in the library but to ask a Novice or Accepted got looks of suspicion or was told to keep my nose out of Aes Sedai business. What? she thought, I just want to be one step ahead them if that was possible. But, today she was just feeling like a bit of fresh air. So she would go to the tower gardens and see if the same raven she had befriended, was about. Maybe she could train it.

She looked at her hair for a moment. Not out of vanity, but because others would comment. She didn't want to look horrible in front of the Aes Sedai. She wasn't a wet mop as once described by a passing Red.

The halls were filled with moving bodies, on their way to class, or to the dinning hall or some such places. Satin's stare was straight ahead but she caught sight of the Green Sitter coming down the hall. She readied her curtsy.

  9.

Today wasn't nearly as busy as it had been, thank the light. Satin had been thinking about bed time for the last 2 hours and bedtime was 3 long hours ago. Her candle was nearly down to the bottom of the wick and the light in the room was growing dimmer by the minute and she kept glancing at it.

What had kept her up all night was something that both went against the very grain of her character and was the only one thing that was silly enough to work. She had grown in so many ways, but even so, the core of her personality would never change. That stoic, unflinching, penetrating, soul searching, and somewhat eerie need to get to the bottom of everything that interested her. But, everything interested her... So, her life was completely filled with study, watching, memorizing and categorizing all that she thought was essential to remember at a moments notice.

She had blossomed, somewhat. It wasn't a full on total flower pedal, blossom but it was something uniquely different to her. And it would shock everyone back in her hometown to know that she has a beautiful laugh, a warm smile the went clear into her eyes. It even shocked Satin when she would think about it.

It was a rough time in the beginning. Completely unaware that it was, too. She learn a few tricks from her mentor, Jerinia that had gave her that look around the corner. The look into a different future, a life where it was okay to relax and to have a normal, lazy conversation. Not that she did that well, or as relaxed as most normally raised people. But she was fairing well, and had developed a few relationships that went beyond, the facts of who they were.

Satin sighed as she look back down at her list of "things to do to irritate Jerinia" It wasn't really as bold as most other girls who ritual pranks were considerd the best or were thought of as career trouble makers, within the Tower. No, hers wasn't going to stand out in history. But it was a huge bound ahead and was apart of growing, learning... even for this fresh, perfectly behaved, smart and proper Satin.  She felt a smile slide into place. This time it didn't alarm her.

The day tomorrow was a free day for her. She had worked for 16 days, straight on her weaves, on her prophecy scrolls, on the nuances of the curtsy, what deference mean and how one day, she will notice it and other more mundane Novice Etiquette's that were so important to advance.

She loved Blue. Well, she loved blue, now. She had never given any colors a single thought beyond what marked them. Blue was now, adorning her walls with a few tapestries she had woven. Crude and elementary tapestries but she never would have made them if not for being here. She could probably think all night long about what it meant to be here. But she went back to the list. "blue dots, check! Lots of them, check! Blue inks, blue paste and..." she reached behind her and lovingly touched the lovely violets. Not just any violets... it was the blue strain of spotted violets. She has taken her last few crowns and bought them from a peddler with in the tower grounds. It was such a find! "The Blue Spangled Violets. She will love them, I hope."

She would go about her day.... sneaking in and out of places that Jerinia had to be. Class, the lavatory, the dinning hall...  and leave the blue dots, everywhere. And last, a trail of dots that lead to Jerinia's room, where there, by the window, will be the Spangled Violets and her note.

She was so grateful for all the girls who had helped her to make them. Each of them were in on it but, Satin swore them to secrecy and would let on about it. The girls were taken with the idea that Satin could invest in any kind of trouble and promised to not notice any of the blue dots.

The candle was dimming even more. Well, she hoped she was ready. She hoped that Jerinia would not guess it, and hoped that she would at least get a proper scolding.

The candle light snuff out on its own, as her head hit the pillow. Her dreams was filled with hues of blue.

The next day, began at 4 am. All her milions dots of blue, her blue chalk, a sack on her back to carry it all. The flowers would be last of all, as she could only place them in Jerinia's room when she was out.

She began by placing dots in the classroom that Jerinia was teaching classes in. Flinging them all willy nilly, and especially onto her chair.

She strung them down the hall, around the corner, into the lavoratory, nearest the classroom. That was all she could do for now. She would make it to her room, once she had left.
