  1. Cadsuane's initial approach to Rand was idiotic in my book. She angered him and disrespected him publicly during their first meeting, even though she knew he was probably unstable mentally at that point and that he didn't trust Aes Sedai. After that, she did everything possible to humiliate him in public, including slapping and spanking him, often over minor things like swearing.

She was dealing with the savour of the world, yet she was willing to risk losing her connection to him and being dismissed as his advisor over such trivial matter like swearing. This is really stupid. If it wasn't for the Min's viewing about her, Rand would have never made her his advisor and would've never put up with her antics. He showed remarkable and at times frankly unbelievable patience with her. Rand was the only hope of the Light, the ruler of half the world, and she was treating him like a naughty child. This was a clear undermining of his authority. If I were Rand, I'd have warned her that the next time she tried humiliating me in person, she'd be fired from the advisor position and forbidden to come within 50 leagues of me.

  2. Rand has had plenty of really stupid moments. I like him, but that's a fact. Leaving the Black Tower in total control of a guy he met 5 minutes before and not doing anything for so long to check up on him despite the numerous clues he had that something fishy is going on, is probably the most blatant one.

Not having any Maidens or friendly channellers(a dozen Wise Ones, for example, he had hundreds of those available) protecting him when meeting the Tower Aes Sedai envoys in LoC is another totally stupid act by him.

  3. If the question was "who is the most stupid among the main characters only", then I wouldn't have objected much to people bringing up Elayne. I wouldn't agree, but it's debatable.

But the thread is all characters in WoT, and the way I see it, there's just no way anyone can convince me that Elayne is in the same league as Miss Idiocy Elaida ("Hey, let's build myself a huge palace on the eve of the Last Battle"), or "I swore to kill the only hope of the Light because of a rumor" Gawyn.

  4. I am a bit confused why some of you keep reading the series, if you hate most characters so much. ;)

I hate to break the party line, but I really like Elayne.

BTW, it's plain ridiculous to list her as the most stupid in a series where the likes of Elaida, Sevanna, Gawyn and most of the Forsaken exist. Hate Elayne as much as you want, but have a little objectivity.

For one, her obsession with hierarchy and dominating other human beings is pathological - even the Forsaken aren't that concerned about power.

What? Are you sure you're talking about the same Elayne who had no trouble leaving Nynaeve, the countrywoman from the back end of nowhere, in charge, for most of their travels together? Who during the course of her travels struck quickly friendships with people like Aviendha or Egeanin, who at the time were far below her in the Randland social order? Or who offered Dyelin the chance to take over the Lion Throne for the good of her country?

Anyway, most stupid character is clearly Elaida. She's in a league of her own.

Most annoying of the main ones - Egwene. By some distance.

  5. I am wondering if this is a typo or I am getting too paranoid due to being too many of them:

    Page 669, Elayne's PoV:

"Dyelin said nothing to that. She didn't believe that Chesmal had been talking of a specific invasion of Andor; she thought that the Black sister had been speaking of the Trolloc invasion of the Borderlands. Birgitte took the news more seriously, beefing up soldiers on the Andoran borders. Still, Egwene would very much like to have control of Cairhien; if Trollocs were to march on Andor, through her sister realm would be one of the avenues they might use."

The sentence in bold is really weird. First of all, "Egwene would very much like to have control of Cairhien" - since when is Egwene intending to conquering kingdoms directly? I think it's probably a typo and it should be Elayne instead of Egwene, which also fits much better with the flow of Elayne's thoughts during this time. The rest of the sentence seems weird too. "Her sister realm"?
