Legend of Korra - season 4

I´m really excited for the final season. The last season was the best so far and it had a great ending. Jinora becoming master while Korra watching in a wheelchair. What will happen to them now?

Toph! I hope we get to see her and it´s not just a picture or a statue that Korra sees. I would love to see Toph, Suko and Katara together again.

Book 3 was easily the best season this show has had (mostly because the other two were very hit-or-miss).

 

I almost wish they had held off on the Toph tease; yes, it increases anticipation, but I think back to how I reacted in the middle of book 2 when Iroh was just THERE with no advance notice (that I was aware of). Then again, we knew about Katara and Zuko in advance, and Toph has been getting teased out throughout the series between Korra's Aangvision in book 1 and Lin and Su Yin's flashbacks.

 

 

The timeskip kinda throws me, but maybe we need that much time to believably get Korra back on her feet, and more importantly, believably set up whatever is going on with Kuvira.

 

Also I know this show has gotten away with some stuff I'd never have expected given, you know, Nickelodeon (in particular the deaths of the Earth Queen and P'Li), but I really wish I could convince myself that they'd allow Korrasami as well.

I thought the first season was okay but the second wasn´t very good. I liked the story about the first avatar but the rest was kind of boring. 

 

I was also surprised by the three year gap. I wonder if Korra is still sick in the beginning. 

 

I think that they introduced Kuvira in a weird way last season. My guess is that she will be one of the "evil" persons this season. I´m still not shure about Su Yin.

 

Korrasami would be great but I doubt they would do it.

Kuvira's introduction was a very ham-fisted "see this chick right here she's not important now but she will be later". A lot of people thought the worst of Su Yin in book 3 and that thus far has failed to pan out.

 

It's pretty much a given based on what we've seen so far that Korra isn't getting out of that wheelchair that quickly. While they never outright stated that she was poisoned with mercury, if that's what it was, that stuff can mess you up even if it doesn't outright kill you.

 

You know, I only just noticed, but in the preview still on that trailer, Korra's color palette seems unusually lightened. Her skin, her eyes, all of it. Wonder if there's a reason.

Episode 1:

 

It was kind of sad to see what have happened since the last episode but it quickly established (one of the) problems that Korra will have to solve this season. I´m afraid that poor Bolin will be on the wrong side later on and be forced to fight against his friends. 

 

I wonder how many of those bandits that have been hired by Kuvira. 

 

The prince seems like a really charming guy. 

 

I like the airbender clothes. Very practical. 

 

I long to see more of Korra. It looks like she is up on her feet again but obviously she hasn´t regain her full strength.

One thing I'm noticing now with what we've seen of Kuvira so far is that all the big bads of this series (assuming she is this season's) are stiff, humorless, and somewhere on the fanatic scale. They differ in the specific things they want, but in terms of personality there isn't actually a hell of a lot of difference between Amon, Unalaq, and Zaheer, and Kuvira looks to be going down the same road. As great as Zaheer at least was, it makes me miss Azula that much more.

Episode 2: Good episode. It was interesting to see what she has been doing for the last three years. Great to see that it was Katara who helped her regain her (physical) strength. I didn´t expect Toph to show up already. It´s weird to see her as an old woman but I laughed at her "twinkle toe". I really look forward to next week´s episode and get to know more about her and what she has been doing. Have she lived in the swamp all those years? It´s sort of fits that Korra finds her there since it´s is where Aang saw Toph for the first time.

They're really going to push the whole Yoda thing here with Toph, huh?

lol I think so. But I think it will be good. I really hope that we will get some old stories from her. I also hope that we will see her, Katara and Zuko together again.

Episode 3:

 

I really like Toph but I think they could have made their scenes better. 

 

Is it just so easy to take control over a kingdom? The other worldleaders where there and said nothing? It´s not like they need the avatar to do everything for them.

I liked Toph's scenes well enough but I hated her voice. Philece Sampler sucked as Mimi on Digimon and she sucks as Toph.

 

After Mako's speech at the end, I'm intrigued by the idea that they might actually develop Wu as a person rather than just leave him as the super-obnoxious joke that justified Kuvira's rule in the eyes of their people.

 

Also I did not realize that Su Yin was played by Anne Heche.

Yes, it will be interesting to see if Wu can realise what the real world is like.

 

They are building up a battle between Mako and Bolin.

Episode 4

 

I loved this episode. It was great to see more of the kids. And of course it was great to see that Korra is getting better again.

That scene was practically a callback to Avatar Day with Aang hanging out in prison and getting romantic advice from the cons; now that a little more age has diluted her annoying chatterbox tendencies, Ikki actually seems the most like Aang of any of his grandchildren. And of course Toph would get on with Meelo.

Episode 4

 

I loved this episode. It was great to see more of the kids. And of course it was great to see that Korra is getting better again.

Also was thinking about Toph running through the list of previous Big Bads and clearly marking them out as Well Intentioned Extremists, who went so far wrong because of being out of BALANCE. Makes me wonder if the show is setting Kuvira up to be the villain that Korra can bring back into BALANCE and redeem, now that she has a better idea of the problems.

Interesting. I haven´t thought about that. You might be right.

Episode 5:

 

So the war begins. I didn´t think Bolin would change side that fast but Kuvira isn´t very smart. If she were, she would have been able to handle him better. Julie was awesome. Would anyone bet against her just pretending to join Kuvira? She certainly needs to get away from her boss but I don´t think she would join Kuvira if she didn´t have a plan. She is smart. 

 

Korra was kind of lame. It was expected though. I hope she will be able to solve this without too much violence. She could be right that this needs another solution. She will of course get better as the season continues. 

 

I like that they focus on the younger characters. The only one missing is Kai.

"I just want you to know, I hate you"   It's nice being reminded that Varrick is still the guy who was crafty enough to engineer an anti-Unalaq propaganda campaign that almost culminated in the kidnapping of the Republic president.

 

No surprise Korra got her ass kicked, but interesting way to pull the rug out from under her when she finally started kicking back; she'd have put Kuvira down easy if she hadn't had her Avatarity go on the fritz. Popular opinion says it's something to do with still having Vaatu inside her.

Maybe, I'm not sure about that.

 

Another good episode. I think Varrick is finally understanding how much Zhu Li has done for him. ( Just realised that her name isn't Julie.) it's interesting that he actually was about to kill himself for a good cause.

 

Great to see four strong girls/women trying to deal with the situation. It was expected that Korra would get her ass kicked. She will surely be weak for a few more episodes.

It wasn't until last episode that I had ever heard Zhu Li talk enough for me to go "waaaait a second" on hearing her voice. I wonder if this is the first time Stephanie Sheh has been the *original* voice of a character.

 

You know, I always wondered about it with Bumi in his box, and now Su Yin and her boys in their boxes; how do they go to the bathroom?

Ha, ha. Good question.

 

Episode 7: Who thinks that there is going to be a Toph vs. Kuvira battle? I´m looking forward to it.

Well, in one way or another she's bested everyone else she might have ever admired, I can't think she'd pass up a crack at Toph. But considering all the backup she has (including the rather vindictive Baatar Jr, unlike when she fought Korra), I don't know that even Toph (who would have no backup) could deal with the odds; if they go down that road, Toph might very well be making her last stand.

 

However, consider DiMartino and Konietzko's influences. We've seen that swamp get up to some shenanigans when the worlds were separated; imagine what might happen now. Kuvira might be about to provoke her very own Princess Mononoke Forest God moment

Episode 8: 

 

Well, what can I say? Underwhelming. I saw somewhere that they thought it was because of budget problems. Meh. 

 

But the rest have been great so far. I´m hoping for the end to be great as well.
