So the very first Playstation game I ever played, was Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen.

I've played every game in the series, and have been following it every step of the way. I've been dying for a sequal to Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

Hell, given the popularity of the action/adventure puzzle games like Uncharted: Drakes fortune, and Tomb Raider, it seemed inevitable that some game company, any game company, would pick up this obvious, Established IP, and run with it. (Square Enix/Edios/CD have all announced in the past, an "Action/Adventure Game similar to Tomb Raider that was "kind of" an new IP." which brought all the LoK fans out there speculating for years now, that this has to be Legacy of Kain! This has been shot down year after year. (specially when one of those new IPS turned  out to be sleeping dogs, and Kain and Lynch)

Anyways, this is about everything known on everything.

Square Enix has released a statement after rumors spread pertaining to a War for Nosgoth listing in Steam's database. Yes, War for Nosgoth is in development and yes, it is related to the Legacy of Kain universe. However, it is neither a traditional Legacy of Kain experience nor is it a single player game. As such, any Legacy of Kain fans should probably lie down and have a good cry.

Whatever War for Nosgoth is, it's not being developed by Crystal Dynamics either. As such, the connections between this new title and nostalgia from the past should turn to dust. Whoa be us who dreamed a dream, for that dream has died.

Square Enix apologizes for being so cagey at this point in time, but really they're doing us all a favor. We, by all means, should not know about War for Nosgoth at this point in time. If things had gone to plan then Square Enix could have revealed the game, its connection the the Legacy of Kain universe, its developer, and why it's going to blow our minds all at the same time. We wouldn't have had the opportunity to set ourselves up for disappointment. This is our own fault, but that doesn't make it feel any better.

War for Nosgoth will be fully unveiled when the time is right. That time is not now, and not at E3 either according to Square Enix. Be excited for the franchise's returns; be excited that Square Enix is excited about bringing the franchise back. Take minute to reset expectations, and then maybe forget about War for Nosgoth and Legacy of Kain for a few more months.

Speaking to VG247, Square Enix community manager George Kelion confirmed that a game set in the same universe as Crystal Dynamics' Legacy of Kain series is under active development by an unnamed studio.

"Nosgoth exists and is in active development, but is not a traditional Legacy of Kain action-adventure game," Kelion said. "Nosgoth is set in the same universe as previous LoK games, but on a different branch to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series. The community should not be thinking of Nosgoth in terms of a single-player experience."

Kelion added: "Nosgoth is not being developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics are not working on a Legacy of Kain game."

References to the titles "Nosgoth" and "War for Nosgoth" were discovered in the driver files for an AMD Crossfire patch last month. Earlier this year, Square Enix registered the domain "WarForNosgoth.com," though the site itself does not yet exist.

"This isn't something we'd normally do," Kelion explained, regarding the decision to confirm the game's existence, "but we wanted to just give folks a bit more context for the direction, rather than just batten down the hatches."

This forum post, also shows the convoluted history this game series has had, when it comes to cancelations, and general douchbaggery (when it comes to Producers cancelling finished games)

I've watched some Nosgoth gameplay. It actually looks pretty fun for a free to play. Sort of a L4D deathmatch.

As I've never played Legacy of Kain, I can't say if it honours those games but it looks like Nosgoth may be able to stand on it's own.

It can't really -not- honor it. There's no story to the F2P multiplayer game. It's purely death-match/capture the flag type gameplay. So the only 'story' is in the details/story behind the classes. So at least in that aspect it honors the series. It's just really disappointing that they canceled the game the Multiplayer was made for. >_<
