[ Kin ] Brainstorming Thread - Plots & Stuff

Arguably,

 

One of the things that attracts people to groups like White Tower & the Warders (and sometimes keeps them away from groups like Freelanders & SG) is, amazingly enough, the perception that there is more to rp with the other aforementioned groups.

 

I would agree with the statement that there are more obvious storylines (being that Jordan has shown us more of a window into these worlds) but not that there are more over all. The truth of the matter is I think it's overwhelming to most people that there are *SO* many options that they just lack a good starting point.

 

So, with that in mind I thought we might give people a hand by talking a bit about the Kin as individuals and as a group & what sort of mis-adventures/wacky hijinx/drama they might get into.

 

Who I See The Kin As In Our DRPSW

In my ideal minds eye I see the Kin as being all the things the Aes Sedai intended to begin with, but failed in execution of because of world political climates and the need to survive.

 

To be fair, The Kin could not have come to be what they are without the Aes Sedai in the White Tower drawing all the attention of the world, but I doubt they'd mention that in a chit-chat over tea.

 

These women have all the story opertunity of an Aes Sedai without the need to wear a mask of perfection to the world. The are "real" people just like those they live and work among every day. Like superheroes in a way they have a secret part of their lives which they don't share with the people around them and it's that secret which holds the power to save/damn the world.

 

Now, yes, they must work within the constraints of keeping that secret identity to protect their fellow Sisters... but in truth this isn't as hard as you'd think. Consider how channelers identify each other for a moment, consider also how few Aes Sedai there are in the world, consider further how few of those few are actually outside the Tower...

 

I think you see my point.

 

Short of whizzing fireballs the task of keeping your cover shouldn't be too hard, but it can be dramatic. Who you tell and who you don't is a matter of strife in the Kin (and could get you stilled if you have poor choice of who to trust.) The risk is always high. The tension of possible discovery a every day thing in some places (Amadicia & Tear for example) and for runaways... everywhere you go for a lot of years.

 

As you noticed not all The Kin agree on how things should be done (see: Factions, on the website) or where the focus should be for them. Politics for them can happen among the Kitting Circle but it's also just as likely to happen in every day interactions just by what people choose to spend their time doing.

 

Example: How is a Conservative gonna feel about the Militant teaching a runaway how to use a sword or helping local theifcatchers track down criminals in fear their agents of the shadow?

 

It's easy to think of Kin as nothing more than over-glorified Wisdoms from places like Emmonds Field but, this is a discredit to the real story opertunities they present.

 

Sure, they CAN be Wisdoms and there are a LOT of story things you can do there (trust me, I use to play wisdom here at DM back about 4 years.) but without formalized cities where we have lots of freelanders to tend to... well, it's pretty boring playing a lone wisdom without a town to care for. So, with that said, if you go the wisdom route for your story... consider how this problem (and others) may complicate your enjoyment of the character.

 

IF YOU AREN'T HAVING FUN PLAYING THE CHARACTER... YOU'LL PROBABLY END UP LETTING IT GO MIA. WE DON'T WANT THAT... LET US HELP!

 

Alright, I've thrown a lot of random stuff here and I'm sure people will have things to add to it (and probably correct me on... lol) but that's part of brainstorming a group that has yet to really take form in the DRPSW.

 

Let's build this together everyone!

 

I don't expect everyone to come to this thread with a list of ideas, ramble like I did if you like. We can pick out the real meat of ideas as we go along and I'll edit this post to make a runnign list as we do.

 

What ideas do you have for stories for The Kin... what things do you think we need to keep in mind when building story?

1) Someone on one of the Kin exile farms gets loose and goes AWOL, have to hunt that person down and return them to the farm to continue their punishment before they perform further infractions (Perhaps they wish to expose the Kin or just use their power too openly).

 

2) In Amadicia, a Kin member is cottoned onto and thought to be Aes Sedai. Either she is caught and in need of rescue, or she along with others are trying to stay a step ahead.

 

3) A local matter at any place, be it a murder to a theft, is mystifying authorities. A kin member knows what happened (or could find out what happened), do they involve themselves or not?

 

4) Kin are exposed in some place and the matter needs cleaning up. If it was kin member being attacked and she defended herself you may need to hunt down the bandits, if it was in a village you may need to spindoctor it. Maybe its a single individual and you need to convince them to silence. Whatever it takes.

 

 

 

Other things to consider as well are places where there are other channelers. In Tear, Cairhien and soon Andor, the Aiel will be a presence with their wise ones, though I'm unsure what their stance would be towards wetlander channelers who aren't Aes Sedai (something for me to chase up). The Seanchan shall land soon in Tarabon (something else to start), a fair number of kin in the initial attack will most likely be found and leashed. But those who aren't in Tanchico itself may have a chance to flee (or maybe you somehow get free of Tanchico itself).

so far i havent thougth as far as to the whole kin but more on geting my own char into there so she can learn

 

i guess there could be some rumors or such to her aka i could make up some fuzz from time to time she has no idea what she is doing and mostly only channel when scared where defencive weaves comes in handy or such

 

other then that i actualy had thougth to have her found or find them by acident needing help maybe through a wisdom or something

My TG character is now going to find Ata's Kin character in Murandy somewhere, hurt and in need of help. No Aes Sedai is to be found, so my char takes Ata's char with her to Altara, in search of a wise woman/ someone who can tend to wounds. There she can be found by the Kin, who sense the ability to channel in Ata's char. They'll need to hide who they are from Rosheen while still tending to Ata's char. Does anyone want to take up the roll of the Kin-healer, or shall I bring in my own Kin-girl Helena?

 

the more Kin the merrier ;)
