My experience visiting an inmate

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd share, cause to me it's really quite interesting.  I'm all intellectual like that.

Anyways, my grandpa (grandma's husband, but not related to me actually) is in a federal prison for selling stuff that wasn't his.  He apparently had a car accident some years ago and bumped his head.  That's what they're saying anyways.  So, I've been to visit him once so far.  It's quite the experience.  Can't take anything in whatsoever, except for change and your car keys, and they have to be in a clear plastic bag.  Visitation takes place on weekends only, in a rather small lounge type of room with clear glass walls.  Vending machines are provided, as are restrooms (which are designated as Visitor and Inmate).  Can't leave the room unless you're done visiting, which is a 2 hour period of time, unless you're done before that.  No pets or outside materials are allowed.  The room's usually packed, so it stinks.  He's not actually in the prison proper, but in what they call a "camp" which means it's low-security.  It feels like your every move is being watched, even so.

When I was a teen I visited my cousin that was in the state pen. It definitely is an experience. To make things easier in checking in to see him I wouldn't bring anything in. I understand what you mean about feeling like your every move being watched. Even though I was just visiting it made me feel like I had done something wrong.
