Ged had left his inn at Tear in the mornings, and since then he had been looking for this ominous Front of the Black Tower. Soon he had to realize that he hadn´t got rid of the sickness which had weakened him the last days and caused his terrible dreams, quite as without any aftermath as he would have wished. After hours of riding, his every bone in his body seemed to ache numbly and he felt some strange sensation of heat run through his veines, yet he didn´t feel any sweat on his forehead when he touched it.

LIght burn me! I don´t have time for this right now! I have to find this Black Tower. I ove father to learn how to control this cursed ability. I swore on my mothers grave....Light!

Stubbornly he dismissed the dizziness threatening to return to fill his head. Ged knew what he had to do and he didn´t want anything more than finding the Black Tower and he knew he would. He was determined to.

Ged only made a brief halt on a light stream to get some cold water on his face and have a little drink, then he swung back into Fox´saddle and procceeded his searching.

After a while, his eyes spotted a group of buildings on the horizon and he suddenly knew he had arrived where he wanted to go. He just knew he was right.

Urging Fox to a quick trot, nearly falling into a gallop, Ged quickly approached the tallest of the buildings, glid out of his saddle, his dizziness suddenly forgotten and hobbled Fox beside a nearby tree.

Then he went to the door of the building and knocked loudly to announce himself and to be let in.

OOC: Someone please help a Newbie to get along!

The knock on the door brought Rion out of his day dreaming state, he had already read through the book he had brought and his thoughts had drifted to home, the Tower now. He was in Tear though, sent because he was now a Dedicated and to see if going abroad would help him with his training. Dashiva had finally caught him in his lack luster weapons performance and his hesitation to learn weaves that lead to death and destruction. Blood, screams, confrontation in general were normally enough to set Rion running, blood enough to make him queasy.

Though Rion doubted that anything would change his hatred for violence and hesitation to learn, that which caused violence. He just wasn’t like that. He was a scholar not a soldier, his hand more fit for pen and book than steel and fire.

Rising he walked quickly to the door and swung it open. He blinked a few times to adjust the glaring sunlight before he made out the figure of a man standing before him. Rion unconsciously adjusted his black coat, a sword pin on his collar and the rest of the clothes as black as his coat. Not sure what to say Rion just let his tongue loose. “Well. Um…Welcome to the Black Tower.†Rion tried a small smile.

When the huge oaken door suddenly swung open, Ged hastily made a step backward, caught in surprise. It had been quite a while until someone responded to his knock and standing there in the streaming sunlight, fiercely shining down on him, didn´t really suit his dizzy head at all. In fact everything around him seemed to swim again and unconsciously touching his forehead, Ged would have expected to find his hand covered in sweat, but his skin was hot and dry, too hot and too dry for his taste and everything around him seemed to be a blurr.

Still Ged somehow managed to stand straight and concentrated on matters at hand. He was here for a purpose, not to let simpering fancies about fever and sickness take him.

Light! I thought this would be over now...No. Not now. I´ve come to learn and to find this Black Tower. I won´t succumb to anything now that I´m so close to my destination...

Squinting against the sunlight creating afterimages in front of his eyes, Ged looked up to the man who had opened the door. At least he thought it was a man he saw, his eyes filled with tears of squinting and struggling against the urge to squeeze them shut tight to lock out the agonizing sunlight.

“Well. Um…Welcome to the Black Tower.†, the young man opening the door said a welcoming smile on his lips.

His voice sounded so far away and distant that for a moment Ged wondered if it had been him the young man had spoken to. His ears rang with the sound of his own blood rushing through his veins and all of a sudden everything seemed to start twisting and turning around him. The man´s face became a blurr, his smile a twisted grimace, yet Ged tried to get his mouth working.

"I...I´m Ged Ma-"

Ged didn´t realize toppling over and collapsing right into the other man´s arms. Everything went upside down and seemed to spin around him. He didn´t hear nor see anything clearly and for a moment didn´t even know who or where he was. Then blackness covered everything as his eyes rolled back in his head.

Rion let out a surpised shout and reached out reflexively to Saidin, weaving threads of air to augment his own streangth as the man in front of him collapsed, only getting out his first name; Ged.

Using both air and his own limited streangth Rion dragged the man inside and laied him on the a rug near the center of the room, the door slamming shut behind them. He shouted out quickly and almost immediately there were three other men running into the room, two had the sword and Dragon marking them as Ashaman and one had only the sword making him a Dedicated like Rion.

Rion stepped back as one of the Ashaman embraced Saidin and Rion watched as the familier delving weaves were preformed, Rion had yet to be able to succesfully do that weave. "It's only a fever, I can't find anything major wrong with him. I can do what I can, but I doubt it will do much but wash away the commone scrapes and bruises. He probobly just started channeling, I've seen it before."

Rion watched as the man convulsed once as the healing weaves settled into him and then in the few moments the man was still and the other were melting away. A command for Rion to wait and watch until the man woke. Rion sat in one of the chairs, pulling it closer to the man. He reached out and slipped through the Taint to embrace Saiding, ready in case the wilder woke and tried to do something without knowing it. Rion bit his lips and waited for the man to wake, unsure of what to do when he did.

Everything around him seemed to twist and to turn all over, his vision blurring and wavering all at once and all of a sudden the world stopped to swim.

Ged rose from his small strawbed at home and blinked for a moment, realzing that he was back home in his parents´ house, yet something seemed to be wrong.

Getting out of his bed, Ged left his small room to go downstairs to look for his parents, a peculiar feeling of anxiety and tension knotting his stomach.

When he went down though, what should have been his mother´s kitchen suddenly turned into the interior of the village´s inn and Ged didn´t even have enough time to wonder why before he saw his father.

He was arguing with two other men over a card game and to his horror, suddenly one of the men besides his father took a knife and stabbed his father into the chest.

"Nooooooooo!!!", Ged screamed. "No, Father! Nooooo!", yet it was too late, the man let go of his father and all Ged could hear was the limp figure of his father hit the ground with a hollow thud, before suddenly the man was racing into his direction, dagger in hand pointing to Ged´s heart....

Trying to escape the strike, Ged found himself unable to move and stood still as a rock when he noticed the man going for him transform into his father, his once handsome and friendly face distorted to a cruel snare: "You have betrayed us all! You deserve to die for what you are ! You killed us all! You never will be my son again! Never! You´re just Shadowspawn deserving to die. DIE!!!"

Ged couldn´t speak nor move. What his father was just yelling at him just seemed to absurd and too cruel to be true. All he could stammer, trying to raise his hands protectively to escape the knife aimed at his heart was: "No, Father, please. Don´t! I´m your son! I`m your son! I didn´t betray you! Never! I-"

His words were cut short by the searing pain of the dagger biting its way into his chest. Ged couldn´t breath anymore, his tormented yell dying in his throat, he only looked down on the dagger sticking in his chest, disbelieving.

His breath catching, choking him, he looked down on his hands, all covered in blood. Yet it wasn´t his own blood.

Looking around him, Ged suddenly found himself surrounded by lifeless corpses. Men he had known for all his life lay sprawled on the ground, dead eyes staring up at him accusingly.

Horror-stricken Ged stumbled back. It was him who had killed those men, he knew for sure. "Why?", he cried out desperatelly. "Tell me why?! I am no murder! I`m no-"

"You are what you are and you won´t escape it no matter how far and fast you are running away from it", the voice of his mother said coldly. Panting, his chest still heaving, Ged´s eyes seemed to pop out of his head when he saw the figure of his mother moving toward him, a huge splinter of wood sticking out of her chest, yet she moved towards him purposefully, the cold stare of her dead eyes taking him in wholely, her mouth twisted to a cruel smile.

"Your father is right, my son", the tone in which she spoke that last word twisted Ged´s stomach making him want to vomit and scream and cry all at the same time.

"Oh Light! No! This is not true, this is not real! It isn´t! IT ISN`T!!" Ged yelled wondering where from he was taking enough breath to still manage yelling.

His mother lashed out and for a moment he thought she was about to strike him, but then her fist closed around the hilt of the dagger planted into his chest.

With a quick motion, his mother had yanked the dagger free, the pain making Ged scream in agony.

"Now, now, my son", grinning his mother looked at the blood-coated dagger, examining the droplets of blood running down it´s hilt contented, almost joyfully.

Ged was sick. He wanted to throw up. To die. To end this nightmare, this unbearable agony.

"Mother! Nooooo! Please!", he pleaded, but it was too late. With a firm grip, his mother held the long knife and draw back only to lash out at him again and stabbing him in to the chest again and again.

Everything around Ged swam and turned. He screamed. He pleaded. He wanted it to be over. Just over. He was choking of his own blood suddenly filling his mouth. Sinking to his knees he didn´t even realize that he was falling over, lying sprawled on the ground, his lifeless eyes staring upward where a faceless shape loomed over him.

"Die traitor! Die Kinslayer!", it cackled at him before blackness surrounded everything, drawing him in. Deeper and deeper into the darkness.

He heard his mother scream.

Ged jerked awake. Panting and soaked in sweat he at first didn´t know where he was. Who he was. He still was too entangled in what he had just seen. A Nightmare, he told himself, but was it really a nightmare.

"I swear by the Light, I´ve never betrayed you. It was´t my fault, it just happened...Saidin...", he stammered, his heart still racing in his chest.

Suddenly he noitced that he was lying on some hard surface, his fingers touching the rough-spun wool of a rug beneath him, Ged gasped as he noticed the man sitting beside him, a worried fron on his face. Ahsa´man suddenly raised through his mind, but Ged only stared at the man above him in wonder, for the moment having forgotten anything around him.

"How...", he finally managed, his voice sounding hoarse and his mouth so dry he barely got an audible sound out of it. Trying to work some moisture back into his mouth, he tried to wet his lips enough to speak. "What...what happened?"

Rion started back, a worried expression on his face as the person woke suddenly. He kept his seat and waited as the person began to calm and become lucid once again. The man spoke finally, and Rion tried to relax."How...What...what happened?"

Rion twisted his mouth and took a moment to collect what he was going to say. It would have to be delicate so as not to have the man panic and try to run. It had happened frequently when men learned they could channel but now the man couldn'y go back wherever even if he wanted to.

"You had a fever, but it seems to have broken. One of the Ashaman healed you so that will very likely have something to do with how quickly you recovered. If you hungry we have food, that happens when people are healed. It probobly came from you channeling for the first time, it always does. I'm suprised you were even able to stumble here, you looked pretty bad."

Rion bit his lip and drummed his fingers on his knees unconsiously, nervous habits all of them. "And I must why you are here, why you have to the Black Tower. Do you seek haven, amnesty? Or are you just another poor soul who has gotten lost in the woods?"

Ged gave a start when he realized that he had woken up in a completely unfamiliar area and for a moment he was horrified about not knowing where he was and what had happened. The images of his dream still haunting him without knowing if what he had seen was true or not.

Light, let it only be a dream! I´d never have betrayed my parents! I´d never have killed all those people! Never!

His heart was pounding in his chest threatening to explode and around him the world still swam in the aftermath of his unconsciousness. Yet Ged slumped down leaning against a wall, realizing he wasn´t fit enough to get up yet.

Ged sighed heavily, closing his eyes for a moment not sure what he should answer to the man in front of him. He couldn´t just tell him that he had killed nearly half of his village by just one stroke with the One Power. With Saidin! Oh Light, help me!

Taking a deep breath, holding the other man´s gaze, Ged wet his lips and spoke still a little hoarsely: "I know that it must have been the One Power raging inside me that has caused....what happened...in my hometown", with a pained look Ged couldn´t erase from his face, he managed to twist truth just a little not to have to lie, "You know I set fire to the inn of my village. And that´s why I´ve come here. I knew that something was wrong with me and having heard about the amnesty for male channellers I thought coming to the Black Tower to learn was the only solution for me. The only way how...I can...learn...to deal with it", he suddenly stared up at the other man pleadingly, "The rumours are true then? I´m in the Black Tower and you can help me."

Ged let out his breath only now realizing that he had been holding it. "I´m sorry for rushing in like this. I only didn´t know what else to do. And then I took sick and didn´t know anything anymore...I only knew I had to manage to come here somehow and it seems I´ve at least managed that if nothing else."

Realizing that he had cast down his eyes and halfway murmured this last sentence to himself, Ged quickly looked up to the other man who was still watching him. "I´m sorry. I haven´t even introduced myself. I´m Ged Maevere and who are you?"

Leaning back again, his mind still spinning, Ged forced himself to stay calm and composed, yet inside he was desperate.

LIght! Please let the rumours be true and those people here able to help me in some way. Light, mother I am so sorry...

"I´m sorry. I haven´t even introduced myself. I´m Ged Maevere and who are you?"

Rion had been biting his lip, studying the man intently. His story, so like many others. Rion new he was a lucky one, his manifestation of the power hurt no one and saved himself. Others, most others, were not so fortunate.

Rion started at the question directed at him, and took a quick look over his shoulder to make sure Ged was actually speaking to him. He was spoken to so little it always came as a sort of suprise. "Me?" When the man didn't say anything Rion continued. "I'm Rion Anglemar, of Ho.." Rion bit back his tounge from finishing the sentence. He was no longer of House Anglemar, he had given that title up months ago. "I am a Dedicated of the Black Tower.Yes the rumors are true Ged Maevere. We can teach you to use Saidin, so what you did will never happen again here." Rion took a scratched the back of his head trying to think of what to say next. "But I do hope you know what you are getting into, already it is to late to go back anyways. The life in the Tower is not easy, our training can kill you if you are not careful. You will be cut off from the rest of the world, losing all ties. The coming of the Dragon broke the ties to everything, now the only ones you will have will be to your new brothers," May the light have mercy on our souls. The light abandoned us a long time ago boy "and to the Dragon."

"Well, not exactly here, and techniqually you're not in the Black Tower yet. Just wait there a few moments." Rion got up and ran from the room, hurrying to the other room where there were people capable of weaving a proper gateway. He explained the situation and in no time an ashaman was waling with him back to Ged.

"Well come on, let's go to the Tower." Rion followed the Ashaman out. The man embraced saiding and was weaving the much practiced weaves almost the second they were out of the door. The silver slash appeared in the air, opening to reveal the Farm, hundereds of miles away. Rion ducked through beckoning Ged to follow. "Welcome to the Black Tower."

Ged let out a sigh of relief as Rion told him that he had indeed come to the right place and that he could be helped to contol the One Power inside him. For one moment, only one brief moment Ged had dreaded Rion´s reply could be negative to that and he´d tell him that he would get mad and what he had done in his village was only the beginning of a vicioous circle of madness and destruction only resulting in inevitable death as he ws told was the case for all male channellers eventually.

A spark of new hope was blooming in Ged now and he knew that he would give anything to be taught how to handle the Power inside him and use it without losing control over himself eventually. Looking at Rion Ged thought that training must be very hard indeed, since the young man opposite him didn´t only look merely tired, but exhausted to the bone and in some way resigned to whatever fate the Wheel might weave him into.

Ged swallowed as he was thinking about what being trained in the One Power would mean. To tell the truth even thinking of having to touch the One Power and feel it surge through him in a regular rate was more than he could stand and even thinking of it made his stomach wanting to empty itself.

Yet he took a deep breath and nodded ready for whatever he might have to face when Rion told him he would bring him to the Black Tower now and leaving the room for a moment came back with one of the Asha´man Ged figured out with a glance on his black coat, being decorated not only with the silver sword pin Rion had, but also with a red and gold dragon, which Ged had heard marked the full rank of Asha´man.

Looking at the grim man obviously drawing on the One Power and creating a silver-blue hole right in the air, Ged could only gape for a moment in wonder and astonishment, wondering if every male channeller would be able to do that one day. Apparently Rion couldn´t do it yet, but still he didn´t seemed surprised at seeing a clear hole cut into the air at all and as he ducked through the hole as if it were the most usual thing in the world, Ged could only gape for a moment until Rion dragged him through it behind him saying "Welcome to the Black Tower!" when they had stepped through the strange hole.

Light! We actually WENT through the One Power!, Ged thought, a shudder of excitement and slight dread rolling down his spine. Still Rion seemed to be already up to show him around the Black Tower, a large building looking rather like a citadel from outside and Ged wondered if all people living in there would be like the Asha´man who had just sent them here. Silently Ged hoped more of them would be like Rion since he seemed rather friendly and able to empathize with Ged´s feeling of alienation as he moved uncertainly following Rion to the largest building across the yard.

  • 1 month later...

Rion led Ged towards the large building where he knew the M'Hael would probobly be, the place where Ged would be recorded into the lists, given a mentor perhaps and a unifrom. The place where everyone needed to go at first to become a part of the Black Tower officially. He daully noted the amazed look on the man's face, the common look of someone who ad gone through a Gateway for the first time. It was always the same really, the two expressions were fear and wonder.

Rion stopped in front of the door and turned towards his new companion. "This is where the M'Hael, our leader at the Black Tower, second to only the Dragon really, resides most of the time. He will help you with everything, give you a mentor and the such. A uniform as well. If you wish." Rion motioned to the door and waited for Ged to go inside, Rion would wait outside. He didn't really like being around to many people at one time.
