Disendra's First Mistake (Attn: Aleanda)

Although the corridor was alike to every other corridor she had seen of the Tower so far, Disendra felt as though her feet never touched the floor.

She was exhausted and mentally drained, to be sure, but she was returning from her first lesson on Saidar and the things she had learnt and the conversations she had had with Estel were still merrily buzzing through her mind. Disendra thrived on knowledge, and knowledge was what she had certainly received. Which reminds me. I really must go to the Library Estel mentioned and have a rummage. All those books!

Still strolling happily down the corridor, Disendra spotted what could only be another Aes Sedai coming towards her. Stopping in her tracks, she beamed at her with a dazzling smile. "Good afternoon, Aes Sedai, and what a wonderful afternoon it is!"

It was only after she had spoken that she remembered her mentor's words to her. "You are to curtsy and wait to be spoken to before speaking."

But it was too late. The look that passed over the Aes Sedai's face made it clear that Estel's relaxation of those rules was certainly not allowed here.

ooc: Oooooo, Robin, please do give dizzy an excuse to get slapped! :D I have an itching for her to throw her dummy out of the cot, big style :D

OOC: I hope you like it! :D

Aleanda walked to the dining rooms. She was starving as she had not eaten for quite a long time. Too busy to go all the way downstairs and get something to eat. Aleanda often managed a servant of Novice to get her some food, but she preferred to eat in the large dining room, talk with Sister about... all kinds of things. This time she wanted to take her thoughts off the books she was studying. So, hungry and tired she walked hastily downstairs.

With the same look upon her face as always Aleanda didn't notice what happened in the Corridor. She hadn't noticed the Novice that was walking to the direction Aleanda came from when suddenly she heared her speak. "Good afternoon, Aes Sedai, and what a wonderful afternoon it is!" Aleanda stood still, she had already passed the child, so she had to turn around to face her. Before she did, though, she looked through a little window outside. It wasn't for the weather this could be called a good afternoon.

"Child, it appears to me you need to learn a lesson. Come with me now, quickly." Aleanda took the child at her arm and pulled the young one to her own large, and a little messy, room where she'd make this girl clean it. "You might be so stupid you have forgotten that you should not address any Aes Sedai untill you are spoken to first. Or perhaps your mentor is that bad she didn't learn you the etiquette, though I highly doubt that. Who's your mentor anyway? O and before I forget, be careful with whom you tell what is, and what isn't a very good afternoon. We share not the same ideas about what a fine afternoon looks like, child." Aleanda looked at the fine young girl that was walking beside her. Aleanda's face didn't change, as it never did in public, though something in her eyes made her seem not very happy.

ooc: before i do this, forgive me for correcting you, but it's too good to let Dizzy miss the opportunity! :D

All traces of mirth vanished from Disendra's mind as she was hauled bodily down the corridor. More for the sake of molifying the Aes Sedai, than attempting to avoid punishment, she tried to apologise with sincerity, but was cut off by the firmness in the Aes Sedai's voice.

"Child, it appears to me you need to learn a lesson. Come with me now, quickly ... You might be so stupid you have forgotten that you should not address any Aes Sedai untill you are spoken to first. Or perhaps your mentor is that bad she didn't learn you the etiquette"

Enraged, Disendra pulled her arm from the Aes Sedai's grip. Child?! Her eyes being the only feature that betrayed her fury, Disendra stopped and made her curtsy as low as she could. Too impatient to begin before she rose fully, her tirade began addressed to the Aes Sedai's knees before rising up her body to be delivered finally to the woman's face.

"An it please thee, Aes Sedai, I am no child. Do not address me as one! Should you see fit to correct me, please do so! However, do so with a civil tongue.

To answer you, my novice is Estel Sedai and, so far, she has been far from lax with my training. But since we speak of training, allow me to impart a word to the 'wise'! My Mentor is not so bad, that she hasn't learnt me the correct etiquette. As i say, Estel Sedai has taught me the appropriate etiquette well. The mistake was mine, as is the responsibility for that mistake. Let no blame fall on her shoulders for it!"

Breathing deeply, Disendra stood before the Aes Sedai, attempting to regain her composure. Outwardly, she looked flustered, inside she was cringing at every word that had just left her lips.

Aleanda had expected much kind of reactions from this child, but this she hadn't. Disendra had much to learn still. The expression on the child's face was priceless, though Aleanda was not in the right mood to think of it that way. When the novice had given the unexpected reaction, Aleanda stopped, turned around and slapped the girl in her face.

After the slap, Aleanda saw a surprising look in the face of the Novice. Her own face was still in shape as it always was, but she was a bit surprised herself as well. Normally she wouldn't slap, she never did something so impulsively and physical violence was something Aleanda didn't use. But the slap did have some reaction. The child was silent.

"I don't want to make a scene here, so come to my room if you feel the urge to shout, cry, or any other foolish behaviour." Aleanda started to walk again, taking the child with her. "Never tell anyone again you're no child, because you are. Naive and unaware of what matters and what doesn't. You have no experiences at all. You're in the middle of a territory unknown to you, unaware of what direction to walk, unaware of the dangers. You need guidance to find your way out. You're a child who is in need of guidance to grow up. Accept that guidance and everything it costs. Learn to listen, learn to control your feelings, and don't act like a fool. You seem no fool to me."

Aleanda saw the cheek of Disendra was red. She hoped it hurt, as that was what the child deserved. Aleanda also hoped she'd take these pieces of advice and do something with them. "How, when and why I want to correct you is non of your business. I do it my way, when and why I want. You shouldn't question any Aes Sedai. You want to become Aes Sedai, you need to learn to control Saidar, therefor you'll have to listen to us and do as we say. No matter what we say. And the only one who wasn't using a civil tongue is you. I can easily send you to the Mistress of Novices for this. For her one slap in the face won't be enough. She'll go on untill you won't be able to sit for a couple of days."

Aleanda opened the door of her room for Disendra and led her go inside. She followed Disendra and closed the door behind her. When she walked further into her own room she saw the mess was worse than she had actually realised. She hoped cleaning the mess would be a good lesson for Disendra. However she hadn't finished her lecture so she walked behind her desk and sat down.

"Aaah, Estel Sedai from the Blue Ajah. I know her. I'm sure she's a good Mentor, and though I believe you misinterpreted my words, I said no bad word about her. So please don't defend your Mentor that much." Aleanda implemented a pause because she wanted the Novice that stood before her understand fully what she was going to say. "Child, I'm really glad your mentor taught you the appropriate etiquette well. Though I truly pity the fact you didn't remember it. Because as you say yourself it isn't Estel Sedai's fault you broke many rules and you didn't behave as the etiquette tells you to. Next time think before you act and remember what Estel Sedai's taught you because I need not to say that you don't talk to an Aes Sedai before she has said something to you first and that you don't question an Aes Sedai nor do you undermine her authority, you don't tell her what she can do and what not and you don't try to insult an Aes Sedai. These weren't all the mistakes you made but I won't go and list them all because I won't report any of this to the Mistress of Novices as you only just arrived."

"I don't think I have to tell you this room looks like a mess, because you obviously have already noticed. Tidy my room and all you did will be forgive. But next time remember the etiquette, you're smart enough to do so." Aleanda made a gesture for Disendra to start cleaning her room. "O, before I forget, you're not going to tell me you never make mistakes now do you?" Aleanda normally made no mistakes in her language but with her bad mood and this child acting so foolishly she had made one. Aleanda hoped it wouldn't happen anymore.

Disendra stood in shock momentarily. She actually slapped me! She opened her mouth to release another torrent of verbal reprisals, but the wind was completely removed from her sails as Aleanda Sedai continued.

"You seem no fool to me."

It was that sentence that made her snap her mouth shut and straighten her back with pride. She walked patiently beside the Aes Sedai, listening to every word she spoke until she stood in Aleanda Sedai's rooms.

Looking around, she saw that the room was indeed a mess. With a deep curtsy, Disendra got to work, straightenign piles of books and scooping up mounds of papers haphzardly left on the desk.

After the desk, she got to work on the windowsills, pilled high with odds and ends that she straightened and organised in a fashion that she hoped was pleasing for Aleanda Sedai.

For several hours she worked, all the while the Aes Sedai sat there at her desk and observed. When she had finished, finally, Disendra stood once more in the centre of the now gleaming room and made another deep curtsy. She stayed with her head bowed until she heard Aleanda Sedai speak.

Disendra said nothing while she was cleaning. Aleanda was happy because she had expected more trouble from this child. Under her eyes, and after what she had said she hadn't seemed really impressed though there was something that had made the childe obey and start clean the room without saying anything stupid anymore.

After Disendra had set to work, Aleanda had taken a book and started reading in it. It was a book written by a White Aes Sedai long ago. Now and then she looked up to see what the Novice was doing to her room. She made the room tidy and organised stuff well. Aleanda had read quite some pages when she looked up and saw Disendra make a curtsy and waited for her to speak.

"At least it seems as if you've learned something and my room is tidy again. I hope you won't make the same mistakes as you did today, child, as next time you might not be so lucky as you were today. Cleaning a room is a mild punishment for what you did. Remember that, and you are dismist unless you have anything else to say?" Aleanda waited patiently for the girl's response.

"Only that I am grateful to you, Aes Sedai, for taking teh time to correct my error. Rest assured, such a necessity shall not arise again."

Disendra gave another curtsy and, at a gesture from Aleanda, she left the room and headed back to her own with her head held high with pride. An Aes Sedai had complimented her. This would not be something she would forget in a hurry.

Back in her own room, Disendra flopped down on the bed, exhausted from the work, but feeling more resolute than ever. I WILL be Aes Sedai. It was the first time the thought had flashed into her mind like that and, strangely, it made her smile.
