I need something epic

I think I have just the thing for you. An extensive fantasy series that has all the depth and nuance of WoT, great character development and a rich and exciting fantasy world that grabs you with it's action and holds you with it's deep drama. At the same time there are great moments of humor and twists to keep you guessing and wanting more.

It's the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey. There are twelve main books and several other prequels and side-story novels. They all take place on a world called Velgarth. The individual books are somewhat shorter than WoT but it's because she's more efficient with her exposition than Jordan - which makes for a less heavy read but with just as much flavor.

I hope you find the time to try it out.

From a quick glance at her wiki' page, I'm sorry to say, I just don't think so. Racecar-driving Elves are one thing, but a pagan witch fighting evil? They are evil !

Sounds too Terry Pratchettish for me.

Aww come on, pagans are good guys - they just don't have any fashion sense.

Seriously though she's not at all like Terry Pratchett, but that's ok. I hesitated to throw in that link anyway - it's usually better to just tell someone about a book and then let them pick one up in a store and leaf through a couple of pages to see if they like it. That's a better indicator than wiki certainly.

How about the Amber series by Roger Zelazney? I was just talking to Despothera about it not ten minutes ago.
