Sneaky Verin

I have been reading through LoC again and I noticed something about Verin. She was the one who was behind sending the seven sisters to be firm with Rand in Caemlyn thus making him run to Cairhien and the White Tower Aes Sedai. Do you think it was her plan to get him captured, crated up, and taken away? Did she have other plans to do something to him? Also, this is the first time that I realized that Verin talked Alanna into bonding Rand so that Verin could keep track of him. She was a sneaky old Aes Sedai!

Her intention was to keep the Aes Sedai from gaining influence over Rand. She's been doing much the same for most of the series, and it was the basis of my Very Helpful Verin Theory--which argued the fact that she lied was irrelevent [which it wasn't, but shh] and that the question of why she lied was more interesting. Here is the progression.

1. During the meeting between Rand and the Amyrlin in tGH, Rand loses his cool, and Verin interjects pointless comments about fish and birds until he regains his control.

2. After that meeting she makes the comment 'we may have to gentle him anyway--oh wait, silly me, we can't.' She plays up it being stupidity on her part, but literally what she was doing was making sure that Siuan and Moiraine did nothing percipitous.

3. The Lie--she tells Ingtar Moiraine sent her, when she could have literally said 'it took my fancy' and the Shienarans wouldn't have batted an eye. The only purpose for saying Moiraine sent her was to defeat Moiraines attempt to manipulate Rand (Moiraine led Rand to believe she care nothing about him). It's only after she does this that she realises Rand is not present.

Side Point: She warns Perrin about Alanna (because Alanna was thinking about bonding him without his permission as she later did Rand, something Faile heads off). This point isn't about Rand, but its in the same type.

4. She incites the Salidar embassy into the confrontation with Rand that looses them all favour in his eyes.

5. She compels the sisters captured at Dumai's Wells to aid Rand.

6. She contemplates killing Cadsuane, and even aquires the poison to do so from Sorilea, but when Cadsuane reveals that she intends only to help Rand, not control him, Verin holds back.

Ultimately her actions have been efforts to keep Rand free of Aes Sedai (and their inherent stupidity).
