Hi everyone,

I discovered EOTW at my local library 9 months ago. I was walking by a shelf and liked the pic on the cover (it was the paperback) so I read the back cover, saw a reference to Tolkien in one of the reviews (I also loved reading Tolkein's books) and decided to check it out. I immediately became hooked and read all the books straight through (about 3 weeks per book) and now that I finished TOM 2 weeks ago, I am in serious withdrawal.

They have New Spring at the library, but I am saving that one for the last couple of weeks before the last book comes out.

Does anyone have any other fantasy book series that is similar to the Tolkien or Jordan/Sanderson style that they would recommend to get me through the next 12 months while I wait for A Memory of Light?

I know I could just start re reading the series, but I am just not the rereading type (I also seldomly watch movies a second time, even if I like them).

BTW- this is a great site, I love reading the latest theories/ideas on the discussion board.

Welcome to DM 2riversman! There is a lot of great stuff and while I'm sure the theories and ideas are great, there's a whole lot more to check out on this site! (ie the social orgs ;) )

As for a good series that should last you through this entire next year, if you haven't already read that is, might be The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. If memory serves, it's about 8 books long (maybe 9 or 10 but my brain gets a bit fuzzy and mixes things together sometimes). It's another great sci-fi/fantasy series that has writing similar to Jordan's style. Personally, and don't call me blasphemous for this but...I like the Sword of Truth better than the WoT....mainly because I wasn't as lost as I would be in WoT all the time. Granted I started WoT at about 13 years old and now, at 21, haven't read the books in over 6 years... But anyways, if you haven't already read it, I would definitely check it out if I were you!

And, like I said, if you want to get to know some people, check out the social orgs or even the roleplaying groups. My personal favorites of the social orgs are the Band of the Red Hand and the White Tower, lots of fun people and good times!

Welcome!

You'll end up rereading the books...just give it some time. wink.gif

Have you read Mr. Sanderson's books? They are really great, too.

I'm not good with comparing styles, though, so sorry! I could list books, but not exactly similar style. >_<

Glad you got hooked found WoT!
