Help with a Wheel of Time quote?

Can anyone please help me remember what the exact quote is for this saying?

It's from the WoT and it's in the later books I think...

It has Rand talking about becoming stronger mentally/physically, and he says something like, "The sword never likes the fire, but appreciates the forge"?

Can anyone help me please?
