A Kin Memorial May Celebration!

Five years ago this month, a small and amazing group of friends had the idea for the Kin Org (Social Group)!  Their hopes and dreams for the Kin have blossomed and become a   very special place many of us call home at DM!  One of the reasons we are such a great Org, is because we celebrate each other and our differences, rather than chafe at conforming to an expectation!   Keeping that thought in mind, and thinking about the activities we are having this wonderful month of May, I think I can sum up the theme of this month in a few specific words:  Memories, Honor, Heritage, and Love.  *smiles*   we’ll see if y’all agree as you check out this month in the Kin!

 

Our Family of Kin

Families are not made of only blood ties!  *grins*  The Kin is a testimony to that!  Each and every one of us brings our unique beliefs, backgrounds, culture and selves to this group, sharing those things of ourselves, making an incredible tapestry!  We don’t often take the time to slow down and really be specific, but we want to take that opportunity this month!   Check out this thread and tell us a bit about favorite traditions you practice, the culture that influences your family at home. Memorial Day

In the USA we celebrate Memorial Day, the last Monday of the month!  It is a time to remember loved ones that have passed on, remembering, celebrating and honoring their memories!  We’d like to bring that here, and have the Kin’s Memorial Hall giving everyone the chance to share their memories, pictures and/or stories of loved ones they have lost.

The Butterfly Project

Inspired by a poem written by a child sent to a concentration camp in Nazi Germany in 1942, the Houston, Texas Holocaust Museum is collecting 1.5 million butterflies to comprise an exhibition honoring the 1.5 million children who perished during the Holocaust!  This is an international project with groups of all ages, kinds and peoples joining in!  Check out the thread to find out how you can be a part of this too!
