Wheel of Time Ebooks

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me. I've loved this series for many years now and have multiples of some books, and having just received a Kindle for christmas I was excited to go add the books onto that as well. I know that so far there are only 3 that have been released as ebooks, BUT

Out of the first three books in the series, only #3 is available to download outside the US. Any ideas why this is? I know that some ebooks aren't available across borders because of licencing and such but I think it's silly that one book in a series would have the right publishing rights and two others don't.

I'd really like to download these so any help is appreciated:)

They all will be released eventually.  You could do what I did and actually am still in the process of doing, though it is very time intensive, at least it for me.  I scanned all my books, (at work using pretty nice scanners during lunch and down time.  Then I OCRed them and copied and pasted them into a Word documents.  I am going  through and correcting OCR and formatting errors. You can email that to your Kindle account with the subject line being "Convert" and they put it in the Kindle format. So far I've got three of them done, working back from The Gathering Storm.

I am still tweeking these as I am now adding the chapter icons.  To get the chapter icons looking good, I've had to do extensive Photoshoping of my original scans, none that I could find on the net were of good enough quality.  Now I have most of the icons in pretty good high resolution.

Its not really about being too cheap to buy the ones that are already out, especially as I have already bought multiple copies of most of the books, usually hardback and paperback.  Its just kind of enjoyable for me to convert them.  Cause usually as I'm editting, I hit interesting parts and reread them.

Maybe the ebook provider only bought the 3rd.

Might check if other ebook providers in your area have either of the other two.

If the other providers also have only the 3rd, then the problem might relate to translating the book to the language.

Scanning the books, that might risk copyright laws; though I am not entirely sure.

A friendly word to the wise: be very very careful that you don't run into copyright violation problems doing this sort of thing. Most books (certainly on this side of the Pond) have something in them about 'no part of this may be copied/stored without permission'.

Sorry mb, didn't see you there!

You guys are probably right.  When I got my Kindle I wanted them all on it so I could take them with me wherever I went, for my own personal use.  I haven't and have no intention of sharing my scans.

As far as the chapter icons, I guess I can share those since Dragonmount has some low quality scans up, as do most WOT sites.  Here is a link to some that I have finised.  They were originally bitmaps, because it tends to work better when I resize them down to about an inch or so.  I guess when I uploaded them to Photbucket it automatically converted them to jpegs so they lost a little quality.
