How many Aes Sedai thought Cadsuane was dead?

 

Aes Sedai.

 

Those who can only speak what they know to be true.

 

If I were Aes Sedai, and I thought that a person were dead, then I would be able to tell them to their face "I thought you were dead."  If the general consensus was that Cadsuane must be dead, that might cover it.  Or...

 

If Cadsuane had previously used a well known alias.  Well known enough that she was accepted by either name by her sisters.  If that alias died, and someone saw Cadsuane they could say to her "I thought you were dead".

 

Cadsuane is a crafty person.  She is very skilled at exercising her plans in her own way.  Complication is no deterrent.  I can imagine her planning then executing almost any plan.  Including the birth, life, and death of the Dragon Reborn.  Using her alias...Gitara.

 

Would Caddy/Gitara think twice about sending Luc to the Blight and Tigraine to the Waste?  Not if it aided her plan.  Could she somehow fake her own death "coincidentally" in the presence of Siuan and Moraine?  Piece of cake.  Could she then lead them on their quest in New Spring?  No problem man.  Could she fade from existence for a long time then reappear claiming that she had been tending her rose gardens?  Yup.  All part of the plan.

 

Cadsuane aka Gitara...discuss.

Cads and Gitarra are both mentioned in NS, Two separate people. Cads is an established Legend at the time, and Gitara was advisor to the Queen of andor.

After I posted this, I also realized that Moraine and Siuan would have recognized her as Gitara instead of thinking of her a Caddy when they saw her in the mountain town in New Spring.  It was a neat concept.  But, I agree..."just no." is correct.  :-[

That's not to say that Cad couldn't have had other influential aliases before or during the main storyline we may have heard about, but I doubt it's very likely.
