A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Possibility for Asmodean

Hi all!  I just started rereading the WOT books about a month and a half ago and I'm currently about 1/3rd of the way through Lord of Chaos.  I made it a goal to figure out Asmodean's murder this time around and here's what I've come up with.  Thought I'd bounce it off an acive community like yourselves:

For those that need to be reminded of the things for or against most characters, I suggest you go here to see some background info: http://linuxmafia.com/jordan/1_dark/1.1_forsaken1/1.1.6_asmo.html

So!  Here's my theory.  Too many people disregard Moghedien, when she is, in fact, one of the Fires of Heaven's main villains.

Moghedien - In Fires of Heaven she sends off a few of Liandrin's black ajah to do various tasks for her.  We don't know what they are but several of them run off to do her bidding and we don't hear from them again for some time.  One of them (Jeaine Caide) is especially interesting because she used the ter'angreal that produces balefire against Nynaeve.  When Jeaine recieves her task from Moghedien she recoils in horror before finally accepting.  We also know that Asmodean may or may not recognise the black ajah, because they'd all been recieving orders from several different forsaken.  Moghedien also reveals that she had spys tell her Rand was going to Caemlyn before he arrived when Nynaeve captures her in Tel'Aran'Rhiod, suggesting a black sister  may have been lurking in Cairhein.  Any minion of Moghedien would be reluctant to let herself be known, since everybody is currently chasing the black ajah and Liandrin's group in particular, so killing Asmodean to keep their cover is certainly possible, even if they weren't ordered to do so.  With the balefire rod, they could silence Asmodean quickly AND Liandrin mentions once or twice that some of her companions could stop hearts instantly with a twisted form of healing.  All of this happens in the Fires of Heaven, making it all VERY relavent.  Finally, Asmodean had been wandering around Tel'Aran'Rhiod in Shadow Rising, so Moghedien would possibly recognize him as Jasin Natael.

So here we have a proper motive (Moghedien would not want Rand to learn and would want to kill the traitor, AKA Asmodean), ability (One Power), timing (Liandrin's Sisters are sent early in Fires of Heaven), proper reason to dispose of a body (secrecy), and knowledge of Asmodean's current whereabouts and means to get there (Moghedien could have told one of the sisters through their dreams where Rand was going, had them in Caemlyn doing other things and told them to shift their target, or she could have Travelled them).

Robert Jordan claimed it was obvious and also mentioned that few letters he recieved actually guessed it right.  It's also a conclusion that is rare, not suggested much AND it fits in with Robert Jordan saying it would be possible to figure it out the moment Asmodean died, since most of this stuff happens in the same book.

In Lord of Chaos, Rand mentions briefly (Page 269: A Saying in the Borderlands) that rumours have been 'persisting' about an Aes Sedai who heals animals and loves cats occupying Caemlyn.  One of Liandrin's black sisters is infamous for this, which suggests that she (and possibly other minions) have been in Caemlyn since Rand took over.

Also, it never really says that Asmodean dies the same day that Rand takes Caemlyn.  It mentions Aiel still hunting Trollocs in the newer portion of the city, which leads many people to believe it is the same day, when in fact, it could be a week later.  How do we know trollocs didn't barricade themselves in a tavern or something?

Anyways, what do you avid readers think of my proposition?

Hey! I'm really sorry to have to lock this since you've clearly put alot of thought into it, but we have a policy of no misc. Asmodean (or Asmotastrophy as I like to call it) threads because there grow to be billions.

Feel free to repost all this in the Asmodean thread of the Structured Wheel of Time board!
