Hello all, I'd just like to introduce myself.  My name is Chris, I live in Sarasota, Florida, and I've been a fan of RJ for about 3 years - in which I've read the entire series twice.

This site seems to be very cordial and respectful - a WELCOME change!  I can't tell you how many times I've gone to boards about various topics and seen "That post is stupid you noob." and 15 pages afterwards of that same disgusting 4 letter word being repeated.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and I will frequent this site to converse with all of you (although I may have to re-read the books to keep up with the amount of knowledge some of you seem to have), and I hope to possibly provide any insight I may have to discussion.

Also, HOW was GaidalCain not taken as a screen name?!?  I've checked the spelling about 5 times and I still cannot believe it.  And finally, 1 question:  there are many references in the books about Rand shaving his face, so razors or another medium for shaving hair off of skin is available, but I haven't found any about women shaving their underarms or legs...anyone have any theories (they use Fire to burn it off, Air to rip it out, etc.)?

Welcome, Gaidal!

I'm with you in being surprised that the name hasn't been taken already.  I honestly at this moment cannot remember one in the history of Dragonmount.. but my Warder might remember otherwise.  She's spiffoo like that.  :)

Anyways, what's your poison 'round these parts?  There's the book discussion forums, the Orgs (which are like social clubs), and the Divisions, which are the discussion boards for the roleplay.  I'm biased to the roleplay, myself... but I'm supposed to be.  *grins*

As for bodily hair... We know that Tuon shaves her head.  Otherwise, I am guessing that in a mideval-esque setting, most women aren't that fussed about bodily hair.  And anyways, it's not like it gets coarse on most women UNTIL they shave it!

My poison - not 100% sure, truthfully I only found DM after RJ died, then I read the blog and a few posts on it, then got distracted because I heard Sanderson was going to finish book 12.  I play MMO games so the RP aspect isn't lost on me (also, hope that the MMO that is proposed for WoT is done well and isn't just a bunch of names thrown together on a screen), and I've been reading up on the mafia games which seem intriguing but also seem to need a good basis for the rules and gameplay before one becomes fluent with the nuances.

I curse the person who got me into WoT, because I was not an avid reader before I started.  Now I have read all but 2 Shannara books, all of Anne Rice (not related to this but fantasy nonetheless), I'm starting on Anne McCaffrey and the Thomas Covenant novels, LoTR(couldn't stomach the other books in the series but the 3 major ones and The Hobbit I read), and about 20 or so various other books in the past 3 years.  And of course my sister's fiance wants me to read the R.R. Martin series, so there's another load....But RJ is top dog by a mile in my book - I even liked the Conan series he did and the Fallon Blood (can't find the other 2 in the trilogy at the used bookstore).

So honestly, I don't know what my poison is, but if you have any recommendations/suggestions, I'm open to them!  ;D

Suuuuure, ask the assistant rp admin what she'd recommend.... very, very droll.  *grins*  But if you like writing, the roleplay is a very fun place to be with a lot of very talented writers.  We're currently transitioning between book 9 and 10, so there's lots of fun roleplay opportunities because of this.

If you want to chat about the books, the book discussion forums would be the place to be.  If you want to make friends, shop around the Orgs - most of the are social clubs that appeal to different personality types.  And then there are some (like the Illuminators) that actually focus on projects and the like; fun if you've got the time and energy!

DEFINITELY read the George R. R. Martin 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books.  There are some around here who think that they're better than the Wheel of Time.  I don't know that I think they're better, but they're just as good, and good in different ways.

Welcome to DM!

Or there are those here who think that A Song of Ice and Fire is a terrible series, like me. The 2nd book is only the second book I have ever put down without finishing and don't plan of finishing. The other book was A Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Good to see you around the boards. Hope you enjoy looking around, and don't hold back on any burning questions!
