Horses Aren't Very Stealthy (Carnhain)

Kedyn lounged about near the front gate of the Citadel, leaning against the gaurdhouse and waiting for his friend. Though today was for training not pleasure, Kedyn didn't really care. He hadn't seen his friend very much lately.

There were many reasons why, Carnhain's responsibilities as a Lieutenant. And some stress over how cold Kedyn had been before Miria had come. He had driven Carnhain away for so long that there was still some tenuous feelings. Though Kedyn was working very hard to fix that. Kedyn shook his head and waited settled in to wait for Carnhain.

OOC: I was going to do this as if it was before the battle if that was alright?

As Carnhain approached, he studied Kedyn intently. There was no hint of sulkiness anymore and the young Lieutenant made a note to go thank the young woman who had wrought such a change in his friend.

"Sergeant." he said, giving a sloppy salute. If anything, one of the most remarkable things Carnhain had learned from the Band was his sense of humour.

Kedyn rolled his eyes at his friend and shook his head. "Well, let's see how you do off that shaggy old horse of yours eh."

"Well since everyone is hear we might as well get going. Follow me." Kedyn turned shifted his bow on his shoulder before heading off through the gates of the Citadel. He set a faster pace than he would normally for the newer scouts but he was confident Carnhain could keep up.

Kedyn called a halt a few miles from the Citadel. "First task of the day is going to be review. We went over the basics with Ram when we went thorugh OTS so I want to wee how much you remember from that. Your task will be to find at least 1 useful herb that you know of and then find a camp we can use for tonight."

Carnhain girnned. On a horse, Kedyn was no match for him but this class would be about something the blonde man knew next to nothing about. So Carnhain followed without question, at least until Kedyn mentioned herbs.

Blink. Blink. "Herbs?" He managed to strangle out. "I don't know anything about herbs!" How was he supposed to? He had next to no experience living off the land, being first caged in and inn, then living the life of a cavalry man.

Kedyn scratched the back of his head slowly. He hadn't been expecting that, he could have sworn they had to do something like this during their officer training. Improvisation was all part of the job as a scout though. He chuckled lightly as a rather evil idea came to mind, but one that would do pretty well to test what else Carnhain had retained during their lesson with Shepherd.

"Well..then pick some of the plants around that you think might be useful and I will enlighten you. We'll find somewhere to make camp after I tell you about them for this afternoons part of the lesson. So uh...go ahead." Kedyn smiled at the look that Carnhain gave him and waited patiently for him to turn.

With Carnhain's back turned Kedyn lowered everything that would try and slow him down, stripping to the bare necessities of his pack. He waited for Carnhain to look back once and the go back to the task before he melted away into the trees. Taking careful steps for a good twenty paces before starting into a paced run. I only hope you realize that the plants are no longer the task my friend.

Muttering under his breath, Carnhain looked around helplessly. Useful? In under the Light was he supposed to know what was useful and what not? He couldn't even tell the difference between one plant and another! I mean, sure, this one was green and the other a slightly different shade of green but what difference could that possibly make?

Chancing a glace back at Kedyn, Carnhain turned back to the task he was failing hopelessly. In desperation he plucked a few leaves from random trees and tore a fistful of grass from the ground. But by the time he turned back, Kedyn was gone.

"Damn!" Grunting in frustration he tore off towards the place he saw his friend last. Reaching the edge of the forest, the cavalryman let out an exasperated sigh. Searching around for some sign to point him in the right direction. Luckily for him, Kedyn had snapped a twig on his way through the trees, a sign even Carnhain could point out.

After that though, there was no more obvious signs.

ooc: do you want me to RP finding him?

OOC: I got it

Kedyn watched Carnhain coming from his perch in the tree and wondered if he was going to be spotted. Cavalry and Infantry don't have the reputation for being observant. Kedyn chuckled lightly. There was always a friendly rivalry between the different corps. He laughed even more as Carnhain stood beneath his perch. He waited for a few moments before dropping out of the tree behind Carnhain, wrapping his arm around his friends neck putting him in a headlock.

"You did good until you started running and forgot to look up. At least it looks like you remembered something from OTS." Kedyn laughed and let go of his friend.

"And since foraging isn't your strong point we'll see how you do in stealth." You have about a minuetes head start and for every ten minuets you keep away from me ummm, I'll shine your boots for that many days." Kedyn really hoped his friend was bad at this.

Carnhain took off as quickly as he could. There was little hope that he could escape Kedyn’s notice for five minutes, let alone ten and so his plan was to get as far away as fast as possible before looking for a good hiding spot. He counted to thirty in his head and he sprinted and once half his head-start was over, he began to move as quietly- which wasn’t all that quiet- as he could away from Kedyn and towards the part of the forest which contained mainly thick evergreens. By the time his head-start was over, Carnhain was moving through the pine trees as quietly as he could, cursing internally as branches scratched him.

He had managed to keep away from Kedyn for about two minutes before he came to a ideal looking tree; one with a wide base and thick needles. Taking his knife from his belt, he cut a piece from the knee of his breeches and left it at the base of the tree before moving on. If all went according to plan, Kedyn would spend a minute or so investigating the tree while he kept moving.

Ooc: your choice, you can find him whenever or you can let him get hopelessly lost

Kedyn was moving quickly through the trees, this was far from the most difficult of scouting tests for him. Carhnain didn't seem to be wanting to hide where he was going, just get as far away as he could. His eyes scanned the ground as much as the land in front of him, following the obvious signs of passing as well as the more overt.

He stopped only a moment, not even stopping only slowing down, at the small piece of discarded clothing. Picking it up as he moved over the path he had been following. It was obvious it had not been torn and there was enough evidence afterwards that Kedyn knew Carnhain had been trying to toy with him.

It was only another twenty or so minuets before Kedyn started catching glimpses of Carnhain, tracking faster than Carnain was trying to hide. He had been getting better though, Kedyn had had to pause every once in a while at some points. It was only a matter of time before Kedyn was tackling his friend from behind, a wild laugh escaping him. After a few moment to catch his breath continued. "And now that we are thoroughly lost, it's your job to find our way home."
