Training Hall (Open RP, any Children)

The Children, as feared as they were for their martial prowess, did not suddenly become fearsome warriors. Indeed, the same as every other mortal who ever picked up a blade, skill was garnered through a great deal of training and experience. While experience was the true teacher, training was necessary if one planned to survive from their experiences to learn. Knowing how to hold a blade and swing it, and better yet how to avoid having one being planted in oneself were considered of particular importance in training.

Furthermore, even for old veterans it was good to practice ones skills in order to keep them ready. For Con, this was of even greater importance, due to being under observation by the Hand. One of the things that undoubtedly saved him from simply being hauled away in his mind was his ability. Indeed he'd been tested early on by Inquisitor Diego, putting the bladesman down simply using his hands had made the point clear that he was no pushover.

Indeed it was in the same place he had his duel with Inquisitor Diego that he was now, one of the training halls in the Fortress. Around him were men, even a few women, training with blades, weights or simply how to use their hands and feet. It wasn't quite the same as he'd known on the Yards, but then again they trained different sorts of people. The Yard produces guards, the Fortress produced soldiers, different purposes for each.

Eschewing lathe work, Con trained by himself as he focused on his own exercises. Things that he had learnt from his masters such as David Ronshor and Andular Rojvas. Moving within a small circle marked out only in his mind, he slowly moved one step at a time, his arms moving about him in a manner similar to a dance. Stately, graceful, they were the result of years of training as well as the experiences that had gone with using those skills. Even as he was aware of what was around him, he was also somewhere else within his mind, a place where his seemingly bizzare movements made perfect sense.

Perhaps some of the older and more experienced blademasters would make some sense of the style. A few that had felt it, while not necessarily understanding it, could attest to how effective it was. For those that fitted neither category, it doubtlessly seemed like a waste of time. But then, Con wasn't there to put on a display, he was there to hone.

ooc. Well RL is finally starting to let me breathe so thought to get this rp going also. Was not sure exactly how you wanted me to go about this. I think this will be the Against all odds rp. She will loose horribly :)

ic. Shirae had entered one of the training halls early in the morning. She had not been with the Children long and needed a lot of practice if she was ever to think herself worthy of being a part of these soldiers. And she was determined to prove herself to the memory of her grandfather. And if not to him, to her father at lease. The next time she met him, she wanted to have achieved something. She worked from Leopard in the Tree to Unfolding the Fan and moving to the other stances also. She practiced with air as her opponent working on her balance and memory of the forms. As morning grew on more men and women arrived in the Hall. Shirae stepped away with her practice lathe. She needed a short break and could give the room for some others to practice.

She had tied her red hair behind her so she would not be troubled with escaping locks of hair. It was times like this when she wondered if she should cut the hair off completely. Though she loved the short red locks on her head, she also had found how easily they came in the way of practice. The men worked on and after a while Shirae felt she had taken a long enough break and decided to get back to work. The hall was full and there was no room left for Shirae to just practice her moves. And she had been practising those alone quite well enough. Perhaps she should attepmt to duel with someone. She recognized the man Arala had argued with a morning quite a long time since and decided to ask he if would practice with her. She could easily see that the man was far more advanced in the use of the forms than she was. Though that was not suprising, everyone in the room was, surely.

But would it not be proper to learn from the best. Or try to would be better said. At least then she would know if she had any chance at becoming a true Child of the Light. She walked to where the man was and after waiting a while interrupted his dance with the blade. She only hoped he would not kill her for this subtle interruption.

Daemon worked the forms in the training hall. Only the most basic, but he still figured he was progressing quickly with them. He started to do his routine all over again. He got into his fighting stance, also known as Leopard in the Tree. He started off with what he thought was a perfect rendition of Unfolding the Fan and he moved into Lion on the Hill. He thought he was so dangerous from this, seeing as he could guard against any attack, andattack on his own. Now would come the truly awesome part. He moved into the Courtier Taps his Fan and followed through moving into Parting the Silk , and quickly drew back to perform Kingfisher Takes a Silverback. He fell back into Lion on the Hil, imagining that his opponent was dead, or at the least, mortally wounded. He the finished off with Folding the Fan, putting his blade away.

He decided to take a break and look around. Across the Hall, he saw one soldier, who looked extremely good with his blade. 'Maybe he's even a match for me," he thought conceitedly(ooc:Daemon's a bit of a fool and thinks he owns the world, he can't really do all that he thinks he can). He decided to challenge the man to a match. But another soldier, a female at that got there before him. But maybe they could have a three way spar. That might be interesting. He moved towards the pair.

"Morning, sir. Would you mind if I joined you in a bout of swordsmanship?" He turned to the female, "You could join in if you'd like."

He eagerly awaited the answer to his question. The man outranked him, but even the heroes had to start low in the ranks. He would become the Greatest Hero evr. And this man was merely a stepping stone, a rung on the ladder. He waited impatiently, as the man looked at him.

Ezekiel Nadamar had done his chores and other tasks faithfully following his punishment, having avoided anyone who looked as if he may feel provoked, and ignoring any jabs made at his stature. He was training in his limited skills, moving between the few stances he learned, his stance alright, despite his experience, however, his motions were slow despite it's fluidity.

He stopped for a moment, looking and finding a small gathering of other recruits around another man, who appeared to have greater experience than he himself. Ezekiel smiled faintly and approached, moving quietly and avoiding drawing attention to himself, merely watching.

Hmm... this could be a learning experience just watching...

Finishing his last movement even as the young man spoke, Con had already weighed the pair. The young man seemed rather brash, certainly he carried himself with a certain level of cockiness. Shirae, as he remembered the lass's name, was far more reserved, polite even. Certainly, she seemed different to the girl he had met at breakfast once, yet Arala had a tendency to cause or get into trouble wherever she was, but that last bit had gone a long way to fixing the trouble between them, he'd even helped her with her fighting. Turning to the man, his face was blank as he spoke calmly.

"No be giving me a sir, I do be but a Child the same as you, the name do be Con. As to the lady, she be waiting before you and did be polite enough to be letting me finish without interruption." Looking to Shirae, Con smiled slightly before widening his regard to encapsulate the pair of them. "There no be no reason why I no be sparring the pair of you at once. There do be enough occasions where you be needing to work with other Children to subdue an opponent. Take up lathes, I do be refusing to work with real blades."

Wandering to a nearby rack, Con helped himself to heavy lathe that was of the length and dimensions of a longsword. Testing it a couple of times, he walked back to where the other pair were with their lathes ready, Con stepped inbetween them. "We do be using a five touch rule, once you are touched five times by the lathe you do be out. Since you do be paired, always be trying to split my attention as best as you do be able."

Lunging at the lad as the Honeybird Kisses the Honeyrose, the lad staggered clear even as Con spun and unleashed Low Wind Rising at Shirae who danced back in turn. It had begun.

OOC: Sorry this took me so long, between burnout, orchestra and now sick, posting has been gimped, but getting back into it. You won't be able to put a touch on Con, so its up to you to post him getting you a few times, he won't strike hard either, he'll simply tap you when he hits. As you're fighting, he'll most likely call out advice as he does so, telling you to watch your stance etc.

"Morning, sir. Would you mind if I joined you in a bout of swordsmanship? You could join in if you'd like." The voice brought Shirae back to the knowledge that she was in the practice yard. She had watched in silence as the man had sparred that she had completely forgotten that there were others in the area also. She smiled warmly at the man intrieged at what the man Con would say.

The mans words did get Shirae to almost grin. She had never thought of herself as a lady but the man was being polite after all, she could continue her politeness to him also. She fetched a training lather and took her place in the circle. She barely got her grip on the lather when the man started. He first went for the other man, Daemon, Shirae thought he was called. That few seconds gave the girl time to think when Con turned on her. Shirae managed to dance out of his way and returned Unfolding the Fan at the man. Con easily moved away form her stroke and returned another at her.

Shirae felt the lathe grace her left arm and she grit her teeth. He was good. She would need to take extra care. Con called an instruction to Shirae to keep in mind she has two arms. She nodded and started Parting the Silk only to have the form stopped in the middle. In the confusion she trampled over her own feet and landed flat on the ground, but she quickly and with ease jumped back up and held her lather protectively ahead of her. She did not have time to think how silly a mistake she had just made. A true amateur.

The dance continued. Shirae had already lost one of her "lives" and knew that the two would need to work together if they even thought to survive longer than few minutes. So when Con advanced on Daemon, Shirae attempted her own dance at the man, causing Con to stagger, but neither managing to get their lathe close enough to touch. She smiled happily at this chance and kept her eyes at the two men concentrationg on her next form in her mind.

ooc. I'm only using the beginner forms as Shirae is not skilled with her sword. She will most likely be the first to "fall".

I wont be online til monday so I'll post my next reply then.

Daemon grabbed a lathe and went back to the cirlce. Con and Shirae awaited him. Daemon stood loosely, awaiting the beginning. Con flew into the beginning of his dance with Honeybird Kisses the Honeyrose, aimed right at Daemon. He had to jump out of the way, and was immediately off balance. As he recovered his position, Con's focus was on Shirae. As Daemon prepared to strike, Shirae lost one of her lives and tripped over her feet. Con turned to Daemon, and he opened with a Parting of the Silk, which Con turned aside, but as the man made for a counterstrike, Shirae rose and pressed in on him, and Daemon renewed his effort to strike Con. The effect of which caused Con to stagger. Shirae then backed off slightly, and Daemon pressed harder, trying to maintain and stay on the attack.

He struck hard with The Courtier Taps his Fan, which almost got through, then he moved quickly into Arc of the Moon, and onto The Kingfisher Takes a Silverback. Con parried all three, and counterstruck with The Falcon Stoops, which, Daemon, who was about to moe into his own form, missed blocking and the lathe took him in the stomach. Daemon jumped back in outrage. One life gone. He looked to Shirae, now knowing that they would have to work together to beat Con. She nodded, and he nodded back. It was time to fight.

ooc:Sorry, this took so long, school and sports take a lot of time.

Twisting in Wind, Con chased Shirae with quick attacks and parried Daemon's blows within the single form even as he gave advice. Kneeling under the Arc of the Moon, Shirae's counterattack was rewarded with Con lazily Parting the Silk, just caressing her abdomen. Pivoting on his knee as Shirae jumped back, Lightning of Three Prongs was broken as The Swallow Takes Flight, the ending thrust ending just to the side of Daemon's head which he then tapped with the flat of the lathe as the man stumbled back.

Whirling about, Con stepped to one side as The Falcon Stoops slipped past him. Lifting his leg above the Low Wind Rising that followed, Con tapped Shirae's sword arm with a Ribbon in the Air then thrust forward to catch her chest lightly. Rather than jump back, she tried to smack his lathe aside to get at him but he rewarded that with a rap of her knuckles. Out of the bout, Shirae was no longer his concern as he rounded on Daemon. Letting Daemon attack, Con stepped back easily as he absorbed the attacks. Parrying The Kingfisher Takes a Silverback to the right, Con's left hand snagged the man's sword arm, locking it in place which let Con simply tap the man on the temple thrice with his lathe.

Releasing the man's arm, Con lowered his lathe and stepped back so he could regard the pair of them. Shirae was kind enough to stand next to Daemon so he could more easily speak to the pair. "Do be a good showing from the pair of you. Simply do be needing more time to work on your footwork, become more familiar with your forms and movement. I do be particularly impressed with you" Con nodded at Shirae "but at the end you did be letting your temper get the better of you with that last attack. An angry fighter usually do be a dead one."

Looking to Daemon specifically, Con nodded "you did well too, but you do be hanging back too much, too cautious. That did be allowing me to focus more on Shirae and eliminate her, leaving you without a partner. Too much caution in an attack do be leaving your opponent with initiative, they then do be dictating the pace of the fight."

"Hopefully this do be something for you to be reflecting on, continue on with your training."

Turning from them, Con returned his lathe to the rack where he had taken it from and resumed his unarmed forms. Hopefully there was something to be learnt by them from the combat.

If nothing else, a little humility.

OOC: Hey Wretched, sorry mate. Been spewing and all sorts. Plus with Shirae leaving, I've brought the thread closed a little earlier than I planned. I also deliberately praised Shirae a bit more to rub it in a bit more for Daemon because I'm guessing thats where you wanted to run with it.

Sorry once again for the wait mate.

Daemon took the advice and criticism visibly well. But inside, his mind was stewing. How could he have praised Shirae more then he? He had had lasted longer after all. He turned away and began to go practice his forms again. He would take this lesson to heart, and he would beat Con someday. Of that he could be sure.

ooc:Alright, thanks! That was what I've been planning to do with this character. He needs to be taught a little humility. What Req does this count as though?
