I've read all the WoT books and would like to start something else.  What other books do you guys recommend?  Of course WoT is by far my favorite but I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series and Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series.  What are some of your favorites.

Thanks

ps.  I hope this post is not too far off topic.

Myself, I would recommend The Song of Fire and Ice by Martin. But don't love any of the characters-good or bad.

I'd second Rand's comment on Song of Ice and Fire. I started it, but just couldn't handle Martin's continuous killing off of characters I was attached to. It's a good series though, if you can keep yourself detached.

Other than the Wheel of Time, some of my favorite fantasy books are Guy Gavriel Kay's "The Fionavar Tapestry" trilogy, Terry Goodkind's "The Sword of Truth" series (the story is pretty good and written well, but the philosophy is irritating at best, and he tends to spend a lot of time on it...), hmm...what else...some classics of course with The Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia, those are always good. I've recently discovered a British author named G.P. Taylor who is pretty good; you might like him if you liked Harry Potter. The books are called "Shadowmancer" and "Wormwood" and you might find them on Walmart's bargain table for $4 like I did lol. I just bought L.E. Modesitt's 'Recluce' series at a used book store and am halfway into the first book, and finding it terribly boring and poorly written. Wouldn't recommend that one lol. Glad I didn't pay much for it. I also recently read a series called 'The Chanters of Tremaris', but can't remember the author. It was pretty good.

Other than fantasy, I'm a bit of a nerd...I read a lot of classic novels, poetry, and nonfiction lol. I like to read, what can I say...I just finished a volume of the works of Edgar Allen Poe, St. Augustine's Confessions, and Darwin's Origin of Species.

I also really like books by Frank Peretti, but he's not really everyone's cup of tea, since he has a lot of religious themes in his novels. But if you like suspense and mystery, his stuff is great.

Anyway, that's my taste in reading. Hope you find something good!

I hate leaving any fiction book unfinished. I always want to reach the end so I don;t start to read unless I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it and finish it. The Song of Fire and Ice is really a nice work. I have put it down several times due to some of the awful events but I guess its only realistic. I must say, out of all the fantasy I have ever read, The Song of Fire and Ice gives the most realistic world. I will say no more to avoid possible spoilers.

I like the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, The Belgarid and Mallorean by David Eddings, Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card (SciFI), Jurrasic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton (SciFi), just read Green Rider by Kristen Britan which was pretty good, and Dune by Frank Herbert also SciFI, Dune the first book was great, Dune Messaih was eh, to much polotics not enough anything else and honeslty i have tried to read the third but i see no poin cause the begining follows the trend of the second so i dont see the point, if it gets better someone please enlighten me.

Corbett, did you really enjoy the Belgariad? I read it immediately after reading the WOT and I found it to be very very dull. I don't know why. There are quite a few positive reviews of the Belgariad, but I think the main reason why I found it so boring is that it was so predictable. Very little suspense you could say.

I would love it if someone could tell me what they found attractive in the Belgariad.

I would definitely recommend reading Raymond E Feists Riftwar Saga (The Magician, Silverthorn and Darkness at Sethanon) and the follow ups. They are great. The only fault I can place in them is that many of the characters name their children after each other, and towards the end I wonder just how many Aruthas and James's there will be in a couple of generations time hehe.

Sword of Truth is ok but i didnt get further than Pillars of Creation, which ruined it completely for me. And I find it annoying at after so many books Richard STILL hadnt leanred how to use the gift.

The Dragonlance ones are good, although Ive only read the Time, War & Test of the Twins trilogy, and a couple others. The Dragons in them are immense

I actually dont quite remember what I liked about the Belgariad becasue i first read it long ago though I did like it enough to read it more than once. Your problem may be that you read it after the Wheel of Time and I read it before though I am not sure. I would recommend it. Also the reason I liked it may be the fact that I am terriblly not picky at all when it comes to books as long as the dont go super political on me, hence my problem with the later Dune books.
