The Dark One's Prison

I'm currently rereading tSR and something in it made me a little confused.

When Rand is doing his test in Rhuidean and expriencing flashbacks into the lives of his Aiel ancestors on the last one, Charn, he relives the moment the Dark One is unbound from his prison. At this moment Charn is running through the streets of a city monologuing about how he's getting married and released from Mierin Sedai's (Lanfear's) service. He glances up at the Sharom describing as this giant flaoting white bubble and begins talking about Mierin discovering a new Source. But then a chip comes away in black fire and the whole things just pops...

SO my question is....Was the Dark One's old prison a giant floating egg thingy? Because I find that kinda funny and if I were him I would be HUMILIATED that I was trapped for thousands of years in a giant floating Bubble. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

If I recall, the Sharom was a research facility where Mieren Sedai (later Lanfear) was researching an alternate form of energy that could be used by both men and women. She succeeded, discovering the True Power. Unfortunately, she released the Dark One in the process.

The Bore is everywhere, it's just most "concentrated" near Shayol Ghul.

The Shalom was a floating research sphere. There's a blurb on it. Shortly, it's designed for both function and form. It's a cool floating sphere, and it's a place for One Power research that's self-contained (think of it as an analog to underground labs to minimize contamination and/or danger).

Boring the Bore made the Shalom explode.

In engineer-speak:

The precise structural integrity failure point for the Shalom was less than the explosive power of the Bore.

Blame the contractor for not making it DO proof!
