Logain... I think I've missed something!

So the last time I heard of Logain, he had escaped from Salidar. Am I right in thinking it was Halima released him?

I am nearing the end of tPoD, and Toveine is leading her AS and Guards to the Black Tower, to 'defeat them'. Now, my first thought was 'Good luck, love, you'll need it', but now i'm just confused.

She and her party were on their way to meet up with another 9 parties, each travelling to their rendevous point, when they were accosted by Asha'man. There was a 'tall man, with shoulders an axe-handle wide' which I first thought must be Taim. Toveine wheeled her horse and bolted, intending to get far enough away from him that he lost his shield on her, then she could come back and help the Guards.

As to be expected, she didnt get very far. It turned out to be Logain, and he quite gently put her on  his saddle in front of him, then kissed her.

Now, this is where my confusion came.

1. When did Logain join the BT?! Did I miss something or did this happen in the background? For god's sake, Taim, send him to Rand - he needs him!

2. I think Logain bonded Toveine when he kissed her - another Asha'man said 'you took another one?', Toveine asked what he'd done, when she realised that she felt no malice towards him at all, and Logain himself said 'this is how we learn to do it'. Is this right? Is she the first 'visible' (to us) AS to be bonded to an Asha'man?

3. Did he give her an orgasm? the book says she let out a wail, when he kissed her, and Logain said he could have done with out the 'extra bit'.

4. Given his treatment by AS, he was very considerate to her. He told her he wouldnt hurt her, and was very gentle with her, this seemed a bit out of character for Logain, given his past treatment by AS (particularly Reds).

If I'm right, firstly where can i find a living Logain? Secondly Rand is going to be sooooooo angry when he finds out Taim's having them bond AS!!!

Halima didnt release him, Egwene did, mainly because if Rand found out she was ordering gentlings, he wouldnt go near her or the rebel sisters.

1) Logain joined the BL somewhere between when he was released and when you saw him with the Aes Sedai. If you can pinpoint the exact time, your good, i cant.

2) Technically Alanna is the first Aes Sedai to be bonded with an Asha'man. Toveine is, though, the first Aes Sedai (visible to us) to be bonded BY an Asha'man

3) Lol, no, he did not give her an orgasm

4) Why would Logain be inconciderate? Didnt Aes Sedai give him back the ability to channel? And did they not also set him free?

I see, thanks. I do vaguely remember it being Egwene who released him, now that you mention it! bit of a detail to forget...

I guess he should really be friendly to AS these days, but I imagine that being gentled in the first place doesnt drop off your memory too quickly.

Personally I have a soft spot for Logain, and I think he will be a huge benefit to Rand / challenge for Taim... I havent got there yet but I have a habit of reading spoilers and I gather this is the case. I imagine that he and Taim are relatively alike in skill, but if I was Rand, I know which one I'd rather have protecting my back!

Prior to releasing him Egwene specifically quizes him on his desire to join the Black Tower, which he indicates that he would do.

As for the rest, Taim as a Darkfriend is unlikely to be interested in doing anything that Rand needs, and besides Logain has alreayd joined with Rand of his own account.

2. He did bond her. The kiss results from the fact that Asha'men discovered the weave during the course of marriage to wives--they add an extra bit to the bond with Aes Sedai requiring obedience, but the kiss is still nessasary due to the Second Weave reality. And yes this is the first visible account of an Asha'men bonding an Aes Sedai.

3. Did he give her an orgasm? the book says she let out a wail, when he kissed her, and Logain said he could have done with out the 'extra bit'.

Indeed, as Aussie Asha'men states, that was no orgasm.

Rand was angry. Hence his offer to the Salidar sisters.

Hmmmm ... I don't agree with this. If I were in his shoes I'd still be pretty hacked off. Let's see...

You get set up as a False Dragon by the Reds - "Hey son, you're the Creator's champion and general all-round saviour of the planet." You embrace your ability to Channel, possibly going slightly mad (just like Freddy Mecurary) in the process, cause general death and destruction for a while. Are then caught by the same people who encouraged you - "Just kidding!" You're gentled, which incidentally saps your will to live and generally takes the fun out of life, put in a cage and presented to the leader of the organisation that did all this to you. You're then kept in their big castle a fed biscuits for a while. They then have a minor civil war in which you escape, aiding the former head. So, you present the head to the rebels, bring them Min, a useful ally, and are treated with distrust. They restore your ability to channel (YAY!), and then shield you and place you under guard. (BOO).

If it hadn't been for Egwene and her general disregard for convention you'd still be sleeping with a Warder for company.

Hmmmm ... again, I don't think I'd see Aes Sedai as the source of all things good if I'd been in his shoes. I think he showed considerable restraint when dealing with the Red, given that she was a representative of the very Ajah that made his life a little difficult.

he wasnt set up by the reds, that wa a story sanche and logain cooked up to garner support for the rebels and drag elaida down with the reds

I'm not entirely sure about that to be honest. I think I remember Taim saying they visited him. I'd have to have a re-read.

In any case, even if they didn't set him up, the Reds don't exactly have a great reputation for dealing with men. Why should you feel inherently grateful to a group that took something away from you, caused you suffering and then gave it back to you? In any case, the Reds didn't heal him, the rebels did. If he should feel "grateful" to the rebels and not the Reds. As a result, I think the group that were heading to attack the BT got off lightly.

No worries Luckers  ;D It is quite true I have been involved in discussions which potentially contain spoilers for myself and thus it is entirely my fault if i read some  :D

With Logain I also understood that it was a rumour that was hatched up to damage the Reds, particularly to damage Elaida's reputation within the tower, to create tension and dissent, which it did. When Pevara and Seaine are questioning Zerah, whom they find out to be a rebel who has been sent specifically to spread that rumour. They put the new oath on her to obey them completely, and then Pevara (Red) tells her to deny that the Reds set Logain up as a false dragon. Zerah nearly chokes to death because she has to obey, she HAS to say it, but she believes it is true, and cannot lie. Pevara and Seaine are stunned when they realise what happens when forcing an AS to contradict one oath with another, and Pevara is convinced that it is a lie.

I like Logain, i think he has compassion and personality - more than i can say for Taim. I cannot wait for Rand to learn he has his support as I believe Logain will be a great aid to Rand, and will likely help Egwene if she needs it, due to her deed.

Was it Logain that Rand was watching being escorted to the Tower when he fell into Elayne's garden?

Yes, it was. That's where we get our first description of him from too. Something about a regal bearing and generally being a frightening individual.

As for the set-up theory... I see that I'm wrong.  :-[

Anyways, it's going to be accepted as the truth by most people in Randland. *Tricksy Aes Sedai* [in a voice like Andy Sirkis' Gollum]

Logain is one of my favourite peeps in the books. I reckon he's going to have a very important role in forming a new Tower, or at least helping to bring the Black and White together.

I look forwards to it. Surely he is the logical choice for the next M'hael when Taim is done with?

He has something the others do not - Humility. He had the ability to channel, he was persecuted and he lost it, and then it was restored to him by Nynaeve, and his freedom renewed by Egwene. He knows the anger of the Aes Sedai, and the dark side, and he has seen the good and the trust that is also possible. He was part of the turning point for the Aes Sedai and I think he knows that. he knows that not all Aes Sedai are out to gentle him.

He could teach Rand and the Asha'man a lot about not taking their powers for granted.
