Question on the Finns

Just about every post I read on Moiraine's rescue has Thom with music Mat with fire and Noal with iron. Why is this. Nothing indicates that the music has to be good, so Mat can do that too as can Noal. Any idiot can use a match and carry a torch, so all three can have fire. They have all been mentioned as being good with knives and knives can be made from iron. Personally I think that they will all use fire and iron, though Thom may be the only one to use music.
