Is Logain a nice guy?
I guess mostly—yes, but not always and unconditionally. He’s charismatic, handsome, and ultimately fights for the Light, even standing against Demandred in one of the series’ most iconic clashes. But Logain is also irascible, lofty, and carries deep scars that make him unpredictable. That mix of strength, tragedy, and stubborn resilience is exactly what makes him compelling. In addition he is involved in the forced bonding of Toveine Gazal and Gabrelle, something I find personally detestable. His action is at last somewhat mitigated when he seems to fall in love with his fosterlings, but the overall impression is nevertheless the picture of sex-slavery (did I misconceive this chapter?)

In summary I find him an interesting and multifaceted personality and I get it that many readers can’t help but fall for him, even with all his shady sides.

Please tell me if my assessment of Logain is totally amiss and if so, where you perceive my misinterpretation.

I think Logain is heading to a dark place and at first is only trying to survive the Black Tower. Is an interesting point of discussion about what place does simply human evil have in the story rather than the cosmic evil of the Dark One. He obviously resists the Shadow, yet isn't in a good place either.

But the ending where he receives the admiration of the children I think is meant to mark his redemption. Personally I would have liked to see him square off against Taim but obviously that was not meant to be.

t seems to me that the approval or acceptance by 'the Children of the Light' is not exactly an endorsement of his moral compass. I may be misjudging the Children, though; I was certainly not impressed by their actions when I first read the series

Ah no. I mean at the final battle he is about to bale with his Asha'man but then some refugees are in danger (or something like that, I've not read the ending very often). He saves them and then finally receives the admiration and love that he thought would be his when he really thought he was the Dragon and was going to save the world.

And if I recall correctly this something of a turning point for him as he was headed somewhere fueled by bitterness and this drastically changes his outlook.

I hope I'm not misremembering too much.

Sorry, I can't remember all those details, my rectified assessment of his character has to wait until I get to read it anew.

But anyways, good to hear from you again, greetings and vy 73 --.../...--

It is more that the effect of the taint on him, combined with his long period severed from the power, meant that he became obsessed with increasing his personal power to prevent being impotent again.  He was able to break that effect at the last battle by recognizing that he could not best Demandred and as mentioned above by choosing to aid the refugees rather than take the chance to obtain the sa'angreal that Taim had been using.
