Right, but it's still a portrayal of an historical event used to provide worldbuilding exposition. This is really not an unusual feature of fantasy anymore, though it was pretty fresh at the time tEotW was written.

Ok. Not to get too far off topic, but I pointed out the difference between a montage and a prologue scene because montages are lazy (albeit sometimes quite effective) means of storytelling, just one rung above narration. The genius of the prologue is that it tees up essential aspects of the story without a montage or a narrator (well, Ish does sort of narrate via his monologue, but it fits with the scene!).

The prologue is confusing at first, but you’ve got all the pieces to put things together by the end of the first book/season, and you start with a bang. Now, tuck the prologue into the final episode of season 1 to bring things full circle - ok. That works, too. Not quite as fun in my opinion but I could get behind that. But pretty sure we’re not getting it period until later, when some of the mystique has worn off.
