Wolfkin

This board is here to help you. The aim is to keep lines of communication open between Staff and Members so that we can help you progress smoothly through your training and prevent things stalling due to LOA's and other interruptions.

If you need help with something, please tell us!  If your training has ground to a halt somewhere, we'll help to kick start it!  If you have a great idea for something interesting and new to do, enlighten us!

Below you'll find the requirements that you need to meet in order to progress to each rank. A more in depth breakdown can be found on the Wolfkin Site HERE.

Please start a new thread for your character (with your character's name in the title) and use it to report your progress. Your first post should include links to your RP's with a note as to whether they are completed or ongoing (example below). If you update this, please post so that I know something has changed. This is your responsibility. I will not be hunting for your threads. No post, no upgraded scores!!

ADVANCEMENT

There are three stages to becoming a member of the Wolfkin; Wanderer, Wolfcub and Wolfbrother/Wolfsister. As a Wanderer, you are still new to the experience of your wolfish side and the strange urges that are called “The Howling”. You don’t know how to control it and you know even less about how it came to you. This is where you are when you are met by another member of the Wolfkin and taken back to the Stedding. You begin basic classes there and you progress to Wolfcub status. As a Wolfcub, you know what’s happening, but you’re still learning to basics to be able to control it. With training, you learn a little control over your dreams and how to cope with the Howling. Once you establish this sort of control, you are considered a full Wolfbrother or Wolfsister, though you remain uncommitted to a course.

On reaching this point, you will begin training to become a member of one of the three subdivisions within the Wolfkin; the Rangers, Watchers and Sages. Each has their own requirements for their job within the Wolfkin but once you meet those and have gained the proper proficiency, you will then earn full status within those groups along with all the ranks and privileges that come with it. The fourth sub division is the Trackers and they are a little different in that you must belong to one of the other sub divisions first. The wolves choose who they will work with rather than the character choosing to be one.

To progress, you must complete required group classes (outlined on the website) and attain the following:

Wanderer:

This is anyone new to the Wolfkin. There is no minimum Weapon Score (WS) or Dream Score (DS) to attain to become a Wanderer. This is the stage where you will begin role playing, meet the Wolfkin and come to the Stedding.

Wolfcub:

To become a wolfcub you need to gain:

• WS of 3*

• DS of 4

Wolfbrother/ Wolfsister:

To become a full member you need to reach:

• WS of 6*

• DS of 8

(*In rare instances a WK might not be able to pick up a weapon. If this is the case, an appeal needs to be made to the RGL in writing, explaining why the character cannot learn to defend him or herself. Not liking a weapon does NOT qualify, though having experienced extreme trauma might. If you appeal and are granted the exception, your character will have to atttempt training, but fail and will not be allowed to leave the Stedding without protection from a capable fighter.)

At this stage, you will choose what subdivision you would like to be part of. You will need to contact the RGL with your choice and she will pass it along to the Head of that subdivision. Once that is announced, you will be able to start your training for that subdivision. Of those, there are three:

Rangers – The Stedding’s Protectors who learn the blade and its dance.

Sages – Our healers and wisdom who tend to us in all our needs.

Watchers – Our eyes and ears in the world, who travel the land to make sure we know what is happening in our isolated Stedding.

and the fourth for which you are chosen:

Trackers – Our meeters and greeters who bring in our lost Wanderers and who explore the world around us.

Further details on the requirements for each subdivision can be found on the website. :)

WS:

Progress Private to Corporal / Progress WS6-WS7

-Intro RP: insert link (incomplete)

-Weapons Training RP: insert link (complete)

-Choice of RP: insert link (incomplete)

1. WS is initially assigned by The Alliance ACL or the RCL.

2. At lower levels, some RP's can be counted twice, towards both a Rank and a WS increase. As you progress, these increases will require separate RP's to achieve.

Advancement information

WS SYSTEM

New characters are given a WS between 1-5. The WS given is dependant on both the content of the bio (does the bio specify that the character has previous training with weapons?) and the quality of the bio (give me a paragraph and expect a WS1; however quality is not always quantity).

*NOTE* WS5 is defined as follows: "The character knows the basic properties and uses of the weapon." This should be kept in mind when the writer is creating their bio, as acts that are deemed too advanced for the previously-mentioned description of a WS5 will result in a request to edit the content.

Advanced standing in WS may be given to a player who has previously played with the Band. Said player can start a new character at the same WS as his or her previous character.

WS1-6

To advance to the next WS (moving from WS 1-2, 2-3, etc.), the character must complete an RP that, in SOME way, might effect their WS. This can be anything from a bar brawl, to being trained by another character, if you give me a good enough explanation for why it should count towards your WS, post it up on the Progress Report Board. Player must have posted at least 5 times to the thread (each post must be at LEAST 100+words).

WS7-10

To advance to the next WS, the character must complete two RPs that involve their ability with weapons. Getting slapped by the character you're flirting with doesn't quite cut it anymore--not even if you slap them back! Neither will getting knocked out five minutes into a bar brawl. The character has to actually learn or teach something, besides not to irritate the wrong infantry bully. Again Progress Board, each thread 5 posts of 150+ words.

WS 11-15

To advance to the next WS, the character must complete three RPs involving their weapons abilities. Your character will have to defend themselves from actual at least semi-serious physical danger. Another of the three RP's must be instructional towards another character. Progress board, each thread 10 posts of 200+ words or 5 posts of 500+ words.

*NOTE* WS15 is the level at which one can apply for Blademaster status (this status is applicable ONLY to those with swords).

WS 16 & 17

To advance to the next WS, the character must complete four RP's involving their weapons abilities. At least one of these must be some sort of "notable" achievement (defeating a Blademaster, defeating a number of opponents at once, Blademaster ceremony, etc.). Another RP must be instructional towards another character. Progress board, each thread 10 posts of 200+ words or 5 posts of 500+ words.

*Note: Anything above this level requires dedication and longstanding membership in the Band to achieve. Cases are handled individually.*

WS 18 & 19

To advance to the next WS, the character must create an RP central to their character (requiring them to fight) involving at least one character from another RP Group. This should be discussed with the ACL before it will be approved.

WS 20

Generally reserved for the Band Commander (or highest IC rank attainable by a character), providing he/she is capable of achieving this WS via the long route.

RANK SYSTEM

All new characters start at the rank of Private. Like with the WS system, advanced standing will be given to returning Banders who are picking up new characters (or creating another character in the Band); they are allowed to start their character at the rank of their previous character, unless doing so would force the demotion of another member's character. Unless stated otherwise by the DL, requirements cannot be used for both a WS promotion AND a rank promotion. The only exception to this is for advancing from Private to Corporal, and from Corporal to Sergeant.

PRIVATE

To advance to the next rank, the character must complete two RP's (completely open and can be about absolutely ANYTHING) and must have reached WS6 (Medics are an exception). Once completed, post it up on the Progress Report Board. Player must have posted at least 4 times to the thread (each post must be at LEAST 100+ words).

CORPORAL

To advance to the next rank, the character must complete three RP's; two of which are completely open, while the remaining RP must demonstrate some sort of leadership quality by the character. Again Progress Board, each thread 5 posts of 150+ words.

SERGEANT

To advance to the next rank, the character must complete four RP's; three of which are still completely open, while, for the remaining RP, the player must recruit one member from one of the divisions allied to the Band (Wolkin, Black Tower) for an RP. Progress board, each thread 10 posts of 200+ words or 5 posts of 500+ words.

LIEUTENANT

To advance to the next rank, the character must complete four RP's; three of which are still completely open, while, for the remaining RP, the player must recruit one member from one a division outside the divisions allied to the Band for an RP. Progress board, each thread 10 posts of 200+ words or 5 posts of 500+ words.

CAPTAIN

To advance to the next rank, the character must create a "larger" RP (meaning at least one thread with 10+ threads by the character or two smaller threads of 5) which in important to their character and position in the Band.

*NOTE* Exceptions may be made for "posts" with fewer than the required number of words in cases where the players were RP'ing over IM's and there is significant posting done by the two of them to satisfy the ACL.

Weapon Scores and Their Meanings

This section is sto- borrowed from the Warders, though the descriptions are pretty much site-wide.

Tier 1 Unskilled

0 - The character has no experience with weapons.

1 - The character has started to learn how to hold a weapon in hand.

2 - The character can probably hold a weapon without hurting themself.

3 - The character has begun some training in the use of weapons, and can wave the weapon at stationary opponents with a reasonable expectation of doing damage.

4 - The character can spar against their teacher without disgracing themself.

5 - The character knows the basic properties and uses of the weapon.

Tier 2 Soldiers

6 - The rank of the average member of an army.

7 - The character has enough experience to fight reliably in group formations.

8 -

9 - The character can spar another person, with a reasonable expectation of winning.

10 - The character is skilled enough with a weapon to teach others the basics of using that weapon.

Tier 3 Elite

11 - The character not only trains other people, but leads them in combat.

12 - The character can spar against two other people, and expect to win.

13 - Somewhere between WS 13 and WS 16, the character can begin to earn a Heron-mark, depending on the strictness of their teacher.

14 -

15 - The character possesses the highest rank possible for those who do not spend every day training with a sword.

Tier 4 Unsurpassed

16 - The character is recognized as a master of their weapon, by all who know their skill.

17 - The character can fight any five normal warriors, and win.

18 -

19 - The character can fight and defeat any five normal warriors, without taking a scratch.

20 - Literally, the best and most skilled in the world.

Notes:

-WS 19 and 20 can only be achieved by the Band's Undercommander and Commander (respectively).

-WS 18 is only available to the Captain Generals of each division.

-The Band does not use the Sword Forms. Those are pretty much strictly the property of the Warders and the Children of the Light. They can afford to look pretty while fighting; we fight for a living. It doesn't have to look cool to kill somebody. The only exception to this is Jaem Caran (aka, The Don), who received Warder training before the "no Sword Forms" rule went into effect. This does not entitle people to learn the aforementioned Sword Forms from him. No character bio with a character who knows the sword forms will be approved.
