"Do you know how Loraine and I met?" Kyn asked, "what my first impression of the woman I'd grow to love was?" He knew she hadn't heard these stories, they were rarely told anymore, particularly since Loraine had become a Sister, and even more infrequently since she'd become a Sitter. "I thought she was a spoiled noblewoman playing at being Aes Sedai, and on top of that wanting to play with swords as well. Nearly killed her best friend in the Tower by playing with sharp swords in the training yard instead of using bundled lathes... and all without so much as a by your leave from anyone. She still blames me for the hiding she got too from the Mistress of Novices for that... since I was the one who upbraided them both and sent them packing to her for penance. I wanted nothing to do with her, and then we were put on an Embassy to the borderlands together, and well it went from there. first impressions are not always correct... and you hate that wall."

Edana laughed, trying to imagine Loraine the way he described her. "How long did it take before you got past that impression?" she asked, ignoring that he was right about her hatred of the wall she spent most of her time guarding. She much preferred to be DOING something, but it wasn't in her job description. "I'm having trouble imagining a world where you two weren't together."

"It took a little while, the ants incident did not help that impression whatsoever, nor her backside. Training her, that started the process. Saving her life, and her saving mine in return... that certainly did put things on the right path. She is single-minded when she sets her sights on something, be it a target, or a cause, or a stubborn Tower Guard who wanted nothing more than to bend her over his knee..."

Edana laughed and arched her eyebrow. "You know you have to explain most of that, right?" she smirked. It was hard to imagine the tiny Cairhienin woman getting the better of him.  "Start with the ants?"

"Ah, well, the ants..." He took a long draw from his cup that turned into a very short one as he found it empty. "Seems I'll need another ale before I can tell all these stories." And he gestured for another round for he and Edana. Once it was delivered he settled back in to tell the story... from his point of view. "I suppose I should start from the beginning, with a bit of background. You've seen those fool Accepted in the yard, just because they have bands on their skirts they think they're Sisters full." He waited for the nod, as it was an inside joke among the Guardsmen and Warders. "Well, on this day two of those brats decided to be more foolish than normal. They weren't there to make mooneyes at the Warders training, or pick out future Warders, or even to learn from any of the masters in the yard. No, they were there to teach themselves, with sharps and not lathes, at that... and I caught them at it, and dressed them down, and sent them running to the Mistress of Novices to be properly corrected."

Edana smirked at the image, trying to imagine Loraine doing something so silly. "You sent them to the Mistress of Novices?" she asked. "You couldn't have been a fully trained guard by then, unless I need to practice with my numbers more."

Kyn nodded, "Just barely... I was young. And there are some benefits to being bound." he took another swallow from his mug and continued, "So, once they were done with what ever Taya Sedai set them too to contemplate their mis-steps she decided I was a little too comfortable in my own skin. So Lor, and her compatriot, decided to get even... and while I was reading out in the yards under the large oak, she used the One Power to compel some ants to pay me a visit... and to snack on me."

Edana grinned. "How did you know it was them?" she asked, not bothering to hide her mirth at his expense.
