Hi,can anyone explain the meaning of "jack o'the shadows"? am not native speaker maybe thats the reason i could not understand...

Jack o' the shadows represents death.  The Band of the Red Hand sings of him to combat fear that every soldier feels - never knowing when their 'friend' death will come calling.
