Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

I just heard about Mr. Jordan's death.

The world is less livable now he's gone. He's given us all fond memories from his writings and will not be forgotten.

May the Light shine on him and his family and may he find rest untill the Wheel weaves him into the Pattern again.

I've just heard of his passing. Robert Jordan has always been an insipration to me, and his books paved the way to my love of fantasy. No matter how many books I've read, Robert Jordan has always remained my favourite author. His passing is terribly heartbreaking to me. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. He touched many lives, and we've lost a great mind.

I just learnt of Mr. Jordan's passing. To all his family and friends I wish to express my deepest condolences; though I never meet him, I still feel that I have lost someone who has become an impotant family member and part of my life. At the worst points in my life, his writing has taken me out of my wheelchair and let me ride horses, run with wolves, fight and dance with the masters and soar like the eagles; for all this and so much more, I will be eternally grateful.

So brief a flame to burn so bright, but grateful are those who saw his light.

I'm so sorry to hear about Robert Jordan's passing. I enjoy reading his books. i have re read the wheel of time 3 times. but, more than that, i admire the courage and passion he possessed as he faced his real-life battle. now, because of this, the words in his books have more meaning to me.

To Harriet, the entire Rigney family and friends.

Thank you for WOT and so much more!

I heard the news today about a lucky man who did wake and go.

Life is a dream-that knows no shade.

Life is a dream-of pain and woe.

A dream from which we pray to wake.

A dream from which we wake and go.

James Oliver Rigney, Jr. thank you for your words which touched the life of my friend Kracus, then me and so many others. Without WOT ... we (in character) would have never been.

May the Light shine on you,

May you rest in the palm of the Creator’s hand,

May the last embrace of the Mother welcome you home.

Fare thee well dragon.

My sincerest thanks!

Peace, Love, Light, Respect and Honor

My wife informed me of this great man's passing as she viewed it on television on some channel...probably CNN; however, life keeps us busy and I haven't been able to comment until now...my apologies. Though I never met the person behind the books, I (and many others) owe him much more thanks than I (we) could ever muster. He allowed us to see a world that we would never have seen otherwise and his ability to do so in a fashion that allowed each of us to get to know him. I began reading the WOT some years ago and specifically remember picking up the last book on a trip to Iceland by total circumstance. Of course I finished the book in a day or two and felt an emptiness because I knew it would be sometime before the next chapter. Thank you for being who you were and for doing what you did...you will be missed by so many, but you have given all of us a part of you that will survive for all time.

I just recently found out about the Dragon's passing and was devastated by the news, I was in Kuwait and Iraq (Army) during his passing and I feel that the world has been a much better place with him in it to tell the amazing stories he has and to teach us all what true perserverance is. My heart and my prayers go out to you and yours.

I can't believe it!!!!! I just started reading RJ's Wheel of Time series in January and have read all 11. I was just checking to see if there was another that was due to be released any time soon, just to find out that this incredibly talented person has joined the Lord. I enjoyed every aspect of his books...the plots within plots, the adventure, the humor, the vivid detail without being too detailed and the fact that there was no smut (although the characters complained about language!). I am devastated by the loss of the climax of this series, but the similarity to Revelation does not escape my notice and I hope to experience that in my reality. I guess that will have to suffice. Too bad we will not be able to find out whether Cadsuanne (sp) ever gets around to spanking the Dragon Reborn. My sincerest and deepest sympathies to the family of this undoubtedly wonderful person. See ya in the hereafter and you can tell me the rest of the story.

First of all like everyone else I want to thank RJ for igniting the reading spark within me. I first read Eye of the world when I was in grade 8(1997) and within the first 5 chapters I was hooked. As a new book came out I would scramble through the previous 3 or 4 books just to keep everything fresh. There are few authors that can truly say they can stand toe to toe with RJ and his writing. Was I upset when he wrote New Spring instead of continuing with the series but after reading it I felt it was the right thing to do. Can I wait until august 2009 for the next book? Like any true WoT enthusiest no I cant but I will just keep re-reading the series over and over until that time comes. Thank you to TOR and RJ and family for keeping the dream alive that we will one day see Rand overcome the shadow.

Robert Jordan opened up a whole new world for so many different people. I personally know of at least five people that did not read unless they absolutely had to. Once coerced, threatened and/or dared into reading just the prologue & first chapter, I could barely get my friends to answer to my question of "Well, what do you think?", let alone get my book back. I myself had never even ventured into the fantasy genre of literature until my husband spotted 'Eye Of The World' while we were grocery shopping. He insisted on buying it, saying "it is a great series, I read some when I was younger." Since, during our five years together so far I had never seen him read even one book, I actually tried to discourage him, as I thought he was buying it for me to read, and I'd never really liked fantasy. Boy, was I wrong! He read & read & read. Read every WoT book that was out at that time. And despite my stubborn disinterest, insisted on reading the funniest parts out loud to me. I didn't really get half the jokes, but there was something about the story, the writing, the flow of the paragraphs that made me laugh anyways.

Finally, my husband made me a deal, read the first 200 pages of Book One, and if I didn't like it by then, he would do the dishes for 2 months, starting on the day that I finished page 200 and put the book down. I hate doing dishes, so the deal was struck. Well, I soon found out why he was smirking when we made the bet. He won. He knew he would. After all, he'd read the story. And when I wasn't busy doing the dishes, so did I.

Robert Jordan, through his Wheel of Time story, changed my life. Not just the type of literature that I read, though going through that door he opened offered me many new worlds. He also gave me my husband back. And more. So Much More.

I met my husband on the job, we worked together, fell in love, got engaged, married, the 'normal' progression. We didn't have much in common, as he's extroverted (a born salesman), and I'm introverted (classic bookworm/geek), but we both loved to be outdoors, among nature. Anyways, we eventually decided to have kids, and I quit working. That's when the problems started. First, we had even less in common. He'd talk about work, but it was different. His world hadn't changed so much yet, but me? I was baby-stepping my way through a mine field of home improvement pipe bombs, redecorating grenades, nursery nukes, and, of course, baby stuff explosions; and trying to pull him along with me. Naturally, he was nervous. He just wanted to go around that minefield and meet me on the other side.

There were a lot of things that we didn't agree on during that 'trying' stage, and lots of times we stopped 'trying' for a while, because we were no longer sure how much 'We' we were. We got close to separating. Then, one day while we were grocery shopping...

Our daughter is two now.

My husband reads books. All kinds too, excepting those that are strictly romance or historical romance. (They bore him, but he likes it when I read certain scenes aloud:) Robert Jordan gave me and my husband something to DISCUSS again. Something we both did and enjoyed and could debate, instead of argue, about. He was in the middle of "A Crown of Swords" (the second reading) when our girl was born. He brought the book to the hospital. She gave us more love, and made 'Us' even stronger.

Robert Jordan's story gave me back my husband, and ultimatly, helped to create my daughter. And maybe even more, as we're 'trying' again. When my kids are mature enough, I will read his books with them, and tell them about the great man whose story did so much for us. The real Dragon.

My prayers go to His family & friends & fans. Robert Jordan touched the lives of so many, and changed many as well. I believe that God puts people on this earth for a reason, but He put James here for more than that. He put James here to help miracles happen.

If you read it all, thanks for the time.

And for listening to my story.

Michelle

This is indeed the most devestating news I had hoped to never hear. I feel as though a great and mighty hero has been slain, put down before he could save the battle. Robert Jordan is truely a great among greats. Even with his passing he is still "is" not "was". I have always been a fan of fantasy tales and large epics, yet none have ever captivated me the way Jordan's WoT series has. His ability to weave a great story including all to accurate human perspectives and complex plot have enraptured me to the point of obsession. My heart aches and I near the brink of tears for this loss. I cannot even begin to understand the pain bore by all who held him dear.

Jordan's WoT series has had an incredible impact on my life. I was originally attending college to become a chemical engineer but after I began to read Robert Jordan's series my love for literature became magnified. I could not keep from reading his works and I could not suppress my passion for the written word. I decided to change my major to Journalism. I aspire to become an editor for a magazine. Without Jordan's WoT series I would have continued on to become something I had no passion for. His series invigorated my love obsession with writting. I hope only that through my writtings, I may touch a fraction of the people that Robert Jordan managed. To accomplish that would be an astronomical feat to say the least. As the great man wrote himself in book five:The Fires of Heaven--"There is no salvation without destruction, no hope this side of death."

We have lost a giant--one of the few people I can truely say I admire. Though he may need them not, my prayers are with him and his family. "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time."

I just finished the 11th book...It was my second time through the series because i had waited a long time for the 11th, and had wanted to read the story in it's entirety...

I saw this website at the back of the book.

I didn't know he had passed yet. I only knew of his fight against cancer...

I am shedding tears as i write this. Many many tears. He wrote such wonder into my life. His story has been a shelter from some of the harsher realities of life for many, many years. I began reading "The Eye of the World" back when i was in 7th grade. About 7 or 8 years ago now. I have been enlisted in the United States Navy now for almost a year. I turn 20 in july. 2 weeks before boot camp, 2 things happened. One being that i finished the 8th book in the series for the 2nd time.

The other being the death of my mother. I had been reading it while me and my brother, and much of the family, were down in Ashland OR, to be with her as she died. She died of Cancer as well. Pancreatic.

I don't know what i will do when i read the very last book in the series. It has been a part of my life so integral for so long now that it will be as if something of myself will just stop when i reach the last page. It was always something in life to look foward to. Jordan's next great piece of literature in The Wheel of Time. The next good book i would read.

His passing...it happened while i was being trained in Florida. Knowing i would soon be a part of "The Fleet"...and in turn, The war. And here i am, learning yet again how to say goodbye to another person in my life. Only, in this case, i was too late. I am glad to hear he died in peace.

My mother did as well. Her last words to my stepfather were the same.

It will have been one year since her death in May.

I will remember Jordan's death as well. And when september comes around again, i will pray that all of the heavens embrace him for his visions of beauty. For the comforts his works gave to many, and the courage of the service he gave during a time much more violent and turbulent than my own. A fellow man of Valor. May god take his soul and embrace him every day, for the love and dedication his life was filled with. For showing that beauty does still abound in this world, and all we have to do is see it. My thanks, to Jordan's family, and most especially his wife, for loving, and supporting, such a man as i can only wish i was privleged enough to have known. For giving him the drive that you must have, in times no doubt he was in need of it. And for thinking so kindly, and beautifully, of those who loved him for what he gave to us. Thank you, from the deepest wells that my heart may ever know. Thank you.

I also wish to offer my condolences to the family of RJ. I have lost a relative recently and know the pain that it causes those that are close.

RJ has brought a lot of joy to people I know, and from reading this site and others I can tell his audience extends around the world.

I first came across the Wheel of Time while at a friends house. He always reads a book before going to sleep so I was stuck there with the light on twiddling my thumbs and picked up a book from his collection.

I was mesmorised as soon as I started and went through the entire of the series one after the other fairly swiftly.

There have been no other series of books that have kept me so captivated and enabled me to so vividly imagine the characters, landscapes and battles that took place.

Since I first read the books a number of years ago I have used the nick name/alias of 'Angreal' on numerous forums and online games (bit of a geek like that...) and have always had conversations with people that knew what my name referred to, something else that amazed me. I hope to continue using the name as long as I can, as it sparks my imagination everytime I read it.

May the Dragon rest in peace

To his family,

I do so hope that you read this!

I have only read to the sixth book, I believe, but it has been so long now that the series (started again--on second book) seems like it is new to me again. Robert Jordan is by far the best author in my opinion--which would be confirmed by countless others I am certain!

Beyond the fact that his amount of detail is rare, the books are obviously formed around a great deal of truth-based concepts. Among those is a great deal of knowledge that is not known to the majority of the world...yet.

Keeping that in mind...were you--the reader--left with any instructions if someone in particular should come to contact you in time? If so...than you know.

Robert Jordan was hands down the greatest writer who ever lived. when the first book came out i was in grade seven. i knew after the third that this story was so great i would never read the end of it. and it pained me with every book i read. because i fell in love with the characters more and more. he was the only author who ever apon first read of a paragraph send fear through my heart ( first appearance of Myyrdraal) and literally make me cry ( sheathing the sword). A major loss for this world.

I am getting ready to read The Wheel of Time from the begining again and all I can say is thank you to this giant among authors. I have lost myself in his words and loved his characters for many years now. He will live on long into the future in the strength and beauty of his prose. May the Great Spirit bring comfort to his family's grieving hearts. I have lost 2 family members in the last 3 yrs. One to cancer and one to suicide. I know the burden on his loved ones hearts. Only time and grace from the creator will dull the ache.

I have read the entire series at least 10 times. I can never get enough. I think Mr. Jordan was the best fantasy writer since Tolkien. This is the american version of Lord of The Rings (on steroids!!). I was searching for the release date on book 12 when I learned of his untimely passing. My heart goes out to his family. Our world will be greatly diminished and the world of the Dragon will never be the same. I hope that someone who can stay true to his vision will take over and finish his great work. I was looking forward to a series about the previous "AGE" when this one was finished (a prequel series?) but now that may never happen. Please don't let the world of the Dragon die with him!!! No one can replace him. But there are precedents (Frank Herbert's Dune) where others finished what the original author started. It can't be the same and I will miss his work.
