Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

You get such a strong connection to someone's words, it's hard to imagine there will be no more. I just came across the news of his demise by sheer accident, and I am not sure I have quite managed to process it yet. It's a shock to say the least to hear that someone you have admired and whose work you have cherished for so long is gone. My sincerest condolences to Mr. Jordan's family. His words have made him immortal, he will never, ever be forgotten.

How do you type when your eyes are full of tears?

Just arrving home from a long trip i logged into dragonmount and read the news. To his family and close friends you have my deepest sympathies.

I met RJ just once, he was on a tour in canada and doing a reading many years ago. I remember standing in the back, just listening to him speak. I remember shaking his hand and he smiled at me and thanked me for coming. I think my reply was something like "glug", i was so nervous.

I feel today that the world is now a little dimmer, colours not so bright and we have all lost something wonderful. Not the books but a great man, a giant amoung men, a man who's concepts of truth and honor helped shape not only mine but the minds of a generation.

Since i was too nervous at the time i'd like to say it now, Thank you RJ. Thank you for everything.

Robert Jordan is my favourite author. It saddens me that he is no longer here to continue to write stories that have entertained and inspired me for many years. Like many of his fans, I've read the series countless times and will continue reading it again and again. I share the loss that many here feel! It is difficult to digest the fact that he is gone.

My deepest condolences to RJ's family.

I came searching today, looking for the 12th book in the series. I am absolutely stunned as I had no idea of his personal fights for his health. I pray that each of you who know him and love him intimately be comforted by the knowledge that he no longer suffers in this life and that he knows now the full depth of love and peace. May each of us who have been touched, inspired, moved, entertained, and motivated by his words and fight take heart and take courage in his words and life.

RJ - Sleep well and wake - if not to this dream, then to another.

Peace and love

I sincerely send my heartfelt sympathies to all those touched by this tragedy. Which would be a great many people, as I'm a tip of the iceberg of the fan base of this wonderful author. I was stunned, greatly saddened, but immiediately began re-reading the series, hoping to find solace in his messages throughout. Blessed be him, and all who lose these kinds of fights. Light upon all.

Such a tragedy. Two stories to left unfinished, both as wonderful and real as eachother, but may all feel a sense of humbling blessedness for being able to know the story at all.

RJ was simply the best fantasy writer of all times. There is no doubt. I love his books, and will read the whole series again and again, for many years. I'm afraid that no fantasy-writer will not be able to outshine his talent in the future.

His books are famous not only in USA, but in many countries, even in Russia (i'm from Russia, btw), and all my friends who read his books loved it as much as i did. Russians love you, RJ! Rest in piece. You will be missed.

The Wheel weaves as the Wheel will. You will be dearly missed, but your words will keep your memory alive for time immemorial. Thank you for how you have touched our lives and shaped our consciousness. As I reread your words, I will lovingly think back to all the wonderful debates they have sparked, all the longing for new volumes, all the influence to our philosophies and our own stories. Robert Jordan, Jim Rigney, we will always remember you.

"We must all wake from the dream one day."

Thank-you for the happiness you brought to so many while you dreamt. You will live on forever in our hearts and minds and in the world you created. I pray that your family will find comfort and healing and that you find peace.

May you shelter in the palm of the creators' hand, RJ, and may the last embrace of the Mother welcome you home.

I have been out of the loop for a bit, and only discovered the news today.

As I sit at my desk I'm caught in a conflict of emotion. On the one hand, I'm so incredibly sad at the passing of someone I never met but who still had an incredible influence on my life. And on the other hand, I'm so pleased to have had the chance to experience all that he offered us, the fans, in his writing.

I think one of the things that allowed me the freedom to be myself as I grew up was knowing that even if the people in my lfef didn't understand me, or weren't into the kinds of things I was, that there were always thousands upon thousands of people around the world that i knew did share with me. We all shared the common love of brilliant fantasy writing. And that's exactly what we got from RJ, so many times.

I know that in the future I'll re-read (again and again)the Wheel of Time, and know that the all of it came straight from him. Every time I read of Rand, Mat, Perrin, and all other characters, I'll wonder what part of his life was represented by that little passage, or that characteristic. And every time that i feel like I relate to a character, I'll wonder how I would have got in with RJ, knowing how much he put of himself into the each character.

Through his books he'll live forever, and as we move forward, just as Harriet has reccomended, we all take a little bit of RJ and how he influenced us with us.

Thank you to Harriet, Wilson, Will, and Jason, for sharing your thoughts with us and your experiences, proving yet again just how loved a man he was.

And THank you RJ, for being such a major (if unmet) influence in my life.

John,

Shame on you! I am appalled at how self centered you appear to be. If you do a little research you will discover that yes, book 12 will be published, but by bringing that minor concern up here, you Insult Robert Jordan and his dear family. If you were any kind of a man you would apologize.

Robert Jordan has shaped and influenced my life, I started reading his books at age 11 and have followed the series closely almost from inception. I read the news today and wept with grief at the closing of this chapter in my life. RJ, you will be missed.

Thank you, Wilson, for giving us the information on RJ's peaceful but all too untimely passing. Having attended my own father (hero's) passing not all that long ago, which was from a similar cardiac condition, I share the blessing of having seen my father go in peace as he, also with first and second initials RJ, so richly deserved after a life of service to others. I also lost my only sibling, my beloved brother, to ex-marital terrorism/suicide complicated by inappropriate medical/psychological care almost a year ago. Yes, we must keep faith every day until our time to rest comes, and we owe it to those we have loved and lost to fight the good fight to the end, touching as many people in a positive way as we can along the way. To Harriet, I know these next months and years will be spent in a void of sorts, but it does get better--most especially with the knowledge of the Light, Love and Reunion that awaits us all thanks to the Grace of God when our time comes as well. My prayers and sincere wish is that you can comfort each other and find the guidance you need from whatever source works for you. I hope words from RJ's fans are a small blessing in this devastating time.

Love and Light to you all, and belated thanks to RJ for touching my life and helping me through some of the hardest experiences in it. What he wrote was far more than fantasy fiction...it was a guidebook on how to live an honorable and productive life. May he rest peacefully in God's loving hands until you are together again.

I was shocked to discover the passing of RJ. I was so hoping that he would be able to finish the book like he wanted. Although I am a little upset that he passed before the book was fully completed, I am more upset over the lost of a WONDERFUL writer.

Since I was first introduced to the Wheel of Time series, I was captured by the wonderful details that literally brought me into the world of Rand, Mat, Perrin and all the wonderful characters. The plots for each book were so intricately woven that each reader cannot help but to reread each book, starting from the very beginning, hoping to catch some small detail that would bring light to all the many questions of what happened in certain events. I, myself, am on my 6th round of reading and am still as drawn into it as I was from the first reading.

Because the first 11 books,(12 including the prequel), were so wonderful, I am very confident that fellow readers and I will not in any way be disappoited in the final book.. which is very very much waited for.

As a final note, I would like to offer my condolences to family and close friends of RJ. He will be very greatly missed. It's not often one person can influence the lives of so many people, even ones who have never met him personally.

Wow... what a blow.

I just found out about RJ's passing not ten minutes ago and I find myself unable to comprehend it. A close friend of mine introduced me to tWoT about four years ago and I have been wrapped up in it ever since. I think I've read and re-read all eleven books probably six times now, and I still find myself catching little details that I'd missed previously, adding more to the universe RJ so skillfully created.

I believe it goes without saying that the world will mourn the loss of such a talented man, but RJ, here's wishing you well on your journey, though you departed too soon.

First off, sorry about the school english.

I've just recently returned from working in Norway with close to zero communication with the WorldWideWeb. My condolences to Jordan's family, I've always loved tWoT, or "Sagan om drakens återkomst", as it is called here in Sweden. When my brothers reach a more mature age, 10 & 11 yr old now, I'll pass down my books to them.

Rest in peace Robert, you will always have a warm place in my heart. You were shining bright light in my troublesome teen-years.

The Wheel of Time has been a paramount in my life for the last 8 years. It drove me to excel in all aspects of my writing and, indeed, my life. It is amazing how much truth there can be in a fantasy novel. I tell others that they could learn more about life from Fantasy than from non-fiction. After I read all of the books, I began to listen to them, and I can not stop. Currently, I am living in South Korea. It is my first time out of the United States. The audio books have helped me stay sane in a world without friends or family. Thank you Robert Jordan for giving me peace in an unfamiliar world.

Peace favor your sword.
