I first picked up the Eye of the World back in 1996... I gorged myself on the 6 books from the WOT that was released at the time, much to the detrement of my last year of highschool. It capitivated me and brought me away from the difficulties I faced in my life. Even now when I am in a rough time I pick up one of his books and disappear into his magical fantasies.

I have read all of his books at least 3 times and the first 6 at least 5 times. I doubt that i'll ever find a writer that can captivate me so.

His passing from this world is most tragic and my thoughts tonight will be on the massive loss his dearest Harriet and family must feel... May you celebrate the contribution his life made to the world and know that he has made many many people happy. More than i myself could hope to acheive in a hundred lifetimes...

What an amazing man. His will never be forgotten.

... He was... never just a great storyteller to me. He helped me through the hardest times thus far in my life. A hero, a friend, a light at the darkest hour. Sharing with me his own mind, his own world when i desperately needed to escape my own.

As saddened as i am by Robert's passing, i am glad that he knew love and happiness in his late hour. I am comforted, and so grateful that for a brief moment in time his dream brushed against my own. Though it is painful to know that i will never meet him, i find joy when i look over at my bookshelf, and see the snake biting its own tail. A piece of Robert's soul lives on there, for me and for everyone.

My heart goes out to those who knew him personally, and my deepest sympathies to the millions whom he has touched with his words and thoughts. Yours was a beautiful mind, and it will be missed.

May your sleep be peaceful, may your dreams be what you make them.

My sincerest condolences to all loved ones. He was one of the most talented authors of our time & will be sorely missed by all who have been touched by his light. I am thankful that i was able to partake of his talent - thank you RJ. His books are amongst my most treasured possesions & always will be.

If we did not struggle to reach the light , our existance would have no meaning. R.J. has reached the light, leaving a glowing path for us to wander until we finally fulfill our own destiny. The passing of such a talent to greater path,leaves us to sorrow only for ourselves in selfishness, as we have'nt made it to where he is now. Please R.J. keep your stories going for when we get there too. Harriet to you, a tear, a tissue, a smile, a hug. You were so lucky, to have him in your life, not all of us, can be so blessed. I'm glad you got to say goodbye. I wasn't quite so lucky when I lost my loved one, the day after you lost yours. Maybe they can keep company until that later time. Keep your eye on the light 'til you find what is awaiting on the next turn of the wheel.

I wish to express my condolences to RJs whole family - WoT are my most beloved books, and RJ captivated my imagination and consoled me with his tales through very troubling times. His stories lifted me from my own life and transported me to a special place where I could read about love, triumph, tragedy - sometimes intermingled in the same sentence. Peace be with you RJ - may the lord hold you in the palm of his hand. Thanks for everything..

I have come back home after four months at sea and found that God called back one of his most skilled sons. But through his wonderfull books, Robert Jordan will be forever with us.

I am so sorry he has gone. RJ has been part of my life for fifteen years now through his wonderful books. It was as though I'd wandered into a world I always knew existed and found friends and loved ones waiting for me there. I am sure this is the case now with RJ where he is.

How sad for us that he is gone, how blessed he is.

What a joke... he wasted so much time with some of these books covering a few weeks of time in Randland. So now we either a) get bupkiss, b) get a hurried version of the story he would have told, and/or c) get a poorly written book from a family member. What a joke.

Alex, how inconsiderate could you possibly be. This man loved his work, do you think he CHOSE this for himself? No. I too, like MANY MANY other countless legions of people have been waiting and waiting for this book to come out, but in no way does that overshadow this man's life and the respect that we should have for his family at this time. Thank RJ for the work we did get, for the world he did imagine for us and for what we do have to read. Such a selfish comment as your is uncalled for and really should be removed from the site entirely.

He did "chose" this for himself. He wrote books that were overly long in an attempt to prove how "clever" he was. That was a voluntary choice on his part. I remember, a decade ago, that's right, a decade ago, joking with some friends that Jordan would croak before the books were done. And that was a decade ago, so he did "chose" this.

I very much doubt that the author chose to die; yes, he chose to write long novels, but that hardly was the cause of his death. Nor did it really matter that the novels were long; would you have preferred short, rushed works? Or dedicated, well-written epics? You are an inconsiderate fool...

How is it even posible for someone to complain about the books not being finished when a person has passed away? That is beyond me.

I agree. Alex, please bear in mind that his family read these posts and consider their feelings before you make heartless comments. And as someone has already said be appreciative of the work we did get from him.

My sincere condolences to all who have loved and will mourn RJ. I have enjoyed his books through many readings, and my son is a fan of epic literature now also, largely thanks to the Wheel of Time series. Writers of this caliber are few and far between.

I think Alex's thoughts on the length of the books and the untimely passing my Mr. Jordan were crass and unkind. I will admit when I first learned of his passing I had to think, dang, now I'll never know. But that was short and fleeting as the world has lost one of it's brilliant minds. Peace be with the Rigney family in their time of loss. I know this is late in posting, but my brother in law fights the same fight with the same disease and Mr. Jordan's death was rather close to the belt. Go with the Light, Dragon, we loved you much, and still do!!

I have not come to Dragonmount for some time and I am horrified at the news! I somehow never thought it possible that the worst would happen - RJ's spirit has propped me in so many tough moments, as it does to this day! Alas, for this is a great loss for us all!

My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to his surviving family! And to all his fans, have courage! The life, which the Dragon illuminated so masterfully with his quill, is still beautiful!

As I read the past few postings, I am reminded that it takes all kinds... But we shouldn't squabble - some righteous, some self-righteous - for we have just lost one of the best of us, and though the loss is irretrievable, the world of the Wheel holds ample evidence that anguish and despair can be channeled to creativity and resolve!...

I began reading The Wheel of Time series when I was 13 years old (I was in 7th grade), I'm now soon to be 29. The Eye of the World was a summer reading book among many options given. My mother, a very free and loving person, had purchased this book, but did not give it to me right away. My father was a bit against Fantasy reading, nothing bad, but just the way he was then. After a little hesitation my mother gave me the book to read prior to entering the 7th grade. At that point in time I feel my life changed in a great way. Reading just the first few pages...I was hooked! It's almost impossible to describe the anticipation and excitement that coursed through my veins. As a young boy I felt alive and free. I remember for years running through the woods behind my house pretending to escape to a far off land.

A quick story I’d like to share with the Robert’s friends, family and fans took place about 6 years ago. My girlfriend at the time (still dating to this day) found out that my favorite fantasy writer was a man by the name of Robert Jordan. After finding this out she discovered that Mr. Jordan would be visiting a bookstore in Lancaster Pennsylvania (can’t remember the name) and decided it would be nice to get me a signed book for my birthday. Let’s just say that this was certainly not my girlfriend’s crowd…at all! I mean she doesn’t play video game or read fantasy books at all, which is fine by me. Well to make a long story short, after sitting through a long Q & A session with his fans she finally made her way to the front of the line. A very surprised Mr. Jordan looked her straight in they eye and said “You don’t look like one of my fans?†(with a very sarcastic grin). She explained that it was for me and he said something like he’s a very lucky young man. I thought this was very neat. Not the best story, but a nice one.

My thought and prayers go out to Mr. Jordan’s family. I will always cherish his writings.

Wilson, I wish to send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Your cousin's writing has touched the heart of many a friend and family member. We shall light a candle in remembrance. I hope you'll forgive my ignorance, but I am having trouble with the brother/cousin part. Please, bear in mind, I absolutely adore Mr. Jordan's writings and wish no ill will to anyone. I'm just tad confused. Also, I would like that, when I light a candle in his name, his family is appropriately named.
