Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

I discovered your books when I had just left school, and anticipated the arrival of every new one for months prior to the release date. I'm so sorry that you won't be able to see for yourself the joy that the last book brings us all, but I know that we'll all treasure it that little bit more.

Thank you for the lives you brought to me with each book, and may there always be a wind blowing where ever you are.

RIP RJ

Since the age of 13 I have loved the Wheel of Time Books. After I lent my Father the first book he couldn't stop reading them either and whenever we see eachother we imagine what the final book will be like. He was just as shocked as me to hear that our favorite auther passed away.

I remember an interview where RJ was talking about the main Target of an auther : Immortality.

I am sure his books will grant him this wish and he will always be remembered as one of the greates along with Tolkin.

Finaly I would like to thank you for the wonderful time I have had and will have with your books.

Deepest sympathy for RJs family from two Fans in Germany

I was very saddened to hear about RJ's death. He truly was a remarkable person, and brought more inspiration and joy to my life than I can say. I received my first Wheel of Time novel as a gift for my 15th birthday, and the series has pulled me through all the ups and downs of the last 11 years. As a Soldier currently serving in Iraq, I am encouraged by RJ's example of selfless service to the Army, and to our country. His writing has always made me feel that loyalty, sacrifice, and perseverance can overcome any obstacle or hurdle that life presents. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. The world has lost a special individual. God bless.

This is truly a sad moment in more ways than anyone can count. Robert Jordan was and will always be a master of his art, a man who's imagination knew no boundaries. He is, for me and for countless others around the world, a true inspiration. He has given to us, and to all the generations with which his stories will endure, such a gift that will never be forgotten.

My deepest condolences to his loved ones. I am eternally grateful to you for his time spent on us, the readers, when at this point we really feel how precious that little time we have, really is.

My heart is with you.

May the Lord bless you and keep you during this difficult time. RJ's grace and spirit throughout this entire battle is an inspiration to all of us. May you find Christ's peace knowing that his suffering is ended and he walks in the light.

I have seen the dedications, and understand the love, to the ones left. He left his mark on our hearts in the world he created. The wheel weaves as the wheel wills. You can't believe how many times I have applied that to my every day life. Thanks RJ and Harriet, I know he didn't do it alone.

I have read the "Wheel Of Time" series about three times. My prayers goes to his wife, family, and friends. It seem that when I get throught reading the "Wheel Of Time" series, I would read Tad Williams, "The Dragonbone Chair", then it's back to "The Wheel Of Time". It seems that every time I read them It's like finding something new allover. I've been holding my breath waiting for book 12. I hope that his family will see to the finishing of the great legacy that he has left behind. Again my prayers are with you. "Let the dragon ride again on the winds of time."

The Soldier stood and faced God

Which must always come to pass

He hoped his shoes were shinning

Just as brightly as his brass

Step forward now Soldier

How shall I deal with You?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?

The Soldier squared his shoulders

said, no Lord, I guess I ain't, Because

those of us who carry guns, can't

always be saints

I've had to work most sundays

and at times my talk was tough

and sometimes I've been violent

because the world is awfully rough

But I never took a penny

that wasn't mine to keep

though I worked a lot of overtime

when the bills got just too steep

And I never passed a cry for help

Though at times I shook with fear

and sometimes, God forgive me

I wept unmanly tears

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here

They never wanted me around

except to calm their fears

If You have a place for me here, Lord

It needn't be so grand

I never expected or had to much

but if You don't, I'll understand

There was silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod

As the Soldier waited quietly

for the judgment of his God

Step forward now, you Vietnam Vet Soldier

You've borne your burdens well

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets

You've done your time in Hell.

[...] September 23rd, 2007 My favorite living author today joined the ranks of my favorite authors on the other side of “the gray rain curtain of this world.” James Oliver Rigney, jr. (pen name Robert Jordan) died of Primary Cardiac Amyloidosis. When i learned of his diagnosis last year and then learned a bit more about the disease, I knew it was only a matter of time. Despite the Mayo clinic bringing promising new treatments to bear and his remarkable resiliency, once that diagnosis is made, it’s only a year or two at most. I am very sad at the loss of course despite being prepared for it and though I am confident we will see the final volume of the Wheel Of Time completed and published, it’s not even remotely the same as having the man out there somewhere. So, my condolences-meager as their effects may be-to Harriet, Wilson, and the Rigney family. Here is the official announcement reprinted from Dragonmount.com [...]

These lives RJ brought to me, to us, will live forver. I cannot even recall when I picked up my first book written by this man, but I know that the characters have always seemed to have been there for me in some shape or another. The world is suddenly a darker place without, and my feelings of loss must be so trivial a thing compared to those that knew you personaly. Your stories will follow me always. My deepest sympathies to your family, true friends, and fans.

Deepest condolences.

Dan

Today i just logged on to see an update on the calendar and some artwork. I did not know about RJ's passing. Today in my creative writing/film class, we wrote a blog about our the latest movie or book we've read that made us feel the emotion of the work. I wrote of this series. I found a mirror in Perrin and saw myself in that character. I found many common grounds with many most characters in this series. This is truly a loss of monumental preportions for his family and readers alike. Never have i read a work so engaging. Never have i read a work that had me laughing out loud, crying to myself, nor found myself so excited to get to the next chapter, page, paragraph, sentence, or word. My friend mentioned this series of books to me in passing and i asked my mother to buy me the prequel and the first two books as a christmas present this past december. It was the greatest gift i've ever gotten and the day i moved out to Orlando i ordered every book in hardcover at the same time. For a man i did not know, he opened my mind like no other and i thank him for that. Mrs. Harriet, I hope by some miracle you may read this post for i would dearly like you to know that your husband's work touched my soul and i am a better person for having read it. Truly i send my best wishes for you and your family so that God may guide you through this tragedy and show you the light in this darkness.

I dont have any enlightening information about Robert Jordans death, but I'm truly bummed out about it. The man has my upmost respect. He has definetly left his mark in this world and his mark may be around for ages and ages because:

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again."

Well, in his case, hopefully his mark will be left through every age. I am dearly interested in what is going to become of his conclusive book. Its quite sad that he didnt get to finish it. His death actually hits a hard spot. His Wheel of Time series is the series that introduced me to fantasy. I cannot thank this man enough for that. During the journey his series gave me when I was in middle school I thought to myself, wouldnt it suck if he died before he finished this series? That thought haunts me. I understand he left notes for his conclusive series. Hopefully someone picks up on that and finishes it. My condolences to Harriet and the Rigney family

Man oh man. I found out a few days ago. In the newspaper no less. I have a habit of not following my favorite authors and series on the web so that I can do the old fashioned (very old fashioned) thing of popping into my local bookstores every week or so to see the new releases. Whenever there was a new WOT book sitting on the shelves...well let me tell you, that was a VERY good day. I didn't even know that he was sick. I don't believe I've ever felt the hurt of losing someone I've never met before. I still fondly remember finding book one in Tower books off of Watt Ave. in Sacramento, not knowing who Robert Jordon was or anything about his style. Ten books later and the only way I could describe myself today is as a rabid fan. I will remember him.

My love and prayers to all who will miss this great writer. At least he's in a better place now.
