My daughter rushed into the room with the news on Sunday night, that our beloved Robert Jordan had passed away. We were so shocked and sad. Not only for the loss of one of our most beloved authors but sad for his family on their loss as well.

At the library where I work, we have been talking about how we are all going to miss him and the continuation of his wonderful adventure.

But then I am being selfish..he is on another kind of adventure now

I started reading the series approx. 5 years ago, and aside from the works of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis I don't think I've found any series that I like so much as his.

Then also when I started to visit the fansites I was greatly impressed with how well he kept in contact with his fans.

I had thought that he was doing better, so i hadn't bothered checking in on his blog until I sort of spontaneously decided yesterday night to see what was happening in the "wot world". I was absolutely shocked and couldn't help but shed tears, a testimony in itself to how he touched the world.

So here's my thanks Mr.Jordan, and family. Even in the midst of sickness he thought about the book and finishing it for all his fans, as well as fought valiently against the sickness to the end.

I hope to meet him one day, hopefully a day not so soon, but one day.

Dear Fellow Robert Jordan/Wheel of Time Fans and the Rigney Family:

I was actually just down the road from where the Rigney's Charleston home in Beaufort when my wife e-mailed me the news that Robert Jordan had passed away. I live "up" the road in Camden, in Kershaw County, and was in Beaufort to cover a nasty kidnapping trial that had been moved there. It seems strange to think that my favorite modern fantasy author has lived relatively close to where I live and very close to where I was working earlier this week.

Of course, he was far from here when he passed, but that doesn't seem to make it any less "connected" to me.

Eleven years ago, when A Crown of Swords came out, I made it the first hardback of the series to own. RJ and Mrs. Rigney were at The Happy Bookseller in Columbia when I was still living there and my then wife-to-be "let" me go to the appearance. I think I and a number of other fans spent about an hour with him, as he talked about certain aspects of creating and writing The Wheel of Time and some other ideas he was toying around with. He was kind enough to sign my copy of ACoS, and to answer an extra question for me.

I had just finished a fantasy manuscript of my own (as yet, still unpublished) and was asking him whether I should bother getting an agent or try to sell this first novel on my own. I'll never forget what he told me: "Why would you want to sell it twice?" His point, and a good one, is that a really good, solid agent likely wouldn't represent an unpublished author. The fact that I have yet to publish that 11-year-old manuscript or anything else is totally on me, not his advice. Today, if I were to polish it and send it off, it would be directly to as many publishers as I cared to spend money on.

But that wasn't what I'll remember most about RJ. It is his work I'll treasure. When I consider what books I collect and keep, the list is small: Asimov, Donaldson, Herbert (father and son), Tolkien (of course), Williams (Tad, that is) and most definitely Robert Jordan. Tolkien may have been the template for everyone who's come after him, but I think even he would dumbfounded at the sheer breadth and depth of RJ's creativity. There is no equal, in my opinion. I could only hope to have a quarter of that talent and consider myself very, very lucky.

Since that once-in-a-lifetime meeting, I've moved from radio broadcasting to newspaper writing. It's a different kind of creativity, but I enjoy it nonetheless. And I continue to enjoy Rand and Co. as each book has been released. In addition to writing news articles, I also write a weekly column. You can be assured that the one published a week from now (that should be Oct. 1) will focus on RJ's passing.

It is my sincere hope that someone will lovingly finish Book 12 for him, if that was his wish. I would like for, yes, the selfish reason that I want read the finale. But also that it would complete the most incredible literary journey the world of fantasy has ever seen -- a fitting tribute to a giant talent and ... as I have seen here on Dragonmount (as a lurker, admittedly) ... a fine, fine example of man.

My condolences to Mrs. Rigney, his entire family, everyone at Dragonmount who've obviously had such a connection to RJ, and all my fellow fans.

He will be missed ... but we will have his grand vision to keep us company along the road of life he has left behind.

My father sent me his first book when I was in the first Gulf War (Desert Shield / Desert Storm) and I've been hooked ever since. I still have that copy, and have read it numerous times. This is by far the best fantasy series ever created (in my opinion), and I find that I am really sad to hear that RJ has died.

I hope he new peace and love in life. He was a great writer, with an amazing imagination. I always laughed as I found new things in the real world that he "borrowed" and added to his novels. (1 example: There is a hockey player in the NHL who's name spelled phonetically is shaitan but on the back of his jersey it is spelled Satan). He was a man who knew a lot about the world and the languages and cultures of many people and societies, and he weaved them masterfully into a great world.

Dear Mrs. Rigney:

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew him only vicariously, and although his words carried me through most of my adulthood, didn't really. But I still loved him, and by extension-you. I am really really sorry you lost your husband to such a crap disease. Here's wishing you peace, easy sleep and good dreams.

As for me, damn! I am going to miss his words.

You will be missed. Rest in peace Robert Jordan, may light shine upon you.

The impact this one man has had on my life is mind-boggling. His books helped me expand my mind and changed my worldview. If it hadn't been for RJ, I would never have found Dragonmount and never have made so many of the wonderful friends I've made here. Many people here would not have met their spouses or future spouses if not for him.

RJ, you truly were a ta'veren.

My best wishes go out to the family, and also my condolences, RJ was a man who touched many peoples lives through his writing, though i did not know him personally, I still feel like a part of me is gone, the connection that was made through his writing spoke deeply to me about many aspects of my life, and as the wheels turn on in my life, i know that i shall never forget some of the many artistic and visionary inspirations i have recieved from this series of novels... RJ has gone on to a better place, and his story is one of strength in his dealings with this illness, no one truly fails we all simply succeed our lives on this earth at some point,
