Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

The loss of Robert Jordan has made the word a little greyer for me. I was encouraged and given hope by his eternal optimism even in the face of his illness, and thought that he was going to beat it. When I read that he'd succumbed to it, I was numbed by it. The numbness has since worn off, and I'm just overwhelmed with grief. I read his Wheel of Time books all through high school and college, and I've been waiting eagerly for the last one.

I met him once at a book-signing, and I was so impressed by how down-to-earth, friendly, warm, and approachable he was. He made a lasting impression on me of what a real, quality author is like, and part of me has always aspired to approach the greatness of personality that he had.

Harriet and family, my heart is with you guys at this time. Please know that Robert Jordan has touched so many lives, among them my own. I feel his loss personally, even though I only met him once, and I hope that his name lives on in the hearts and minds of all those his caring demeanor and great literature has touched.

I have not cried in a very long time. I awoke this morning and just sat stunned. Truly I have forgotten how this man's work had touched me. Not only am I going to reread his work but read it with different eyes.

My deepest sympathies to his family and most important of all his wife. May God comfort you and may you be reminded that every sunset, every full moon that you see, your husband will be with you. Never lose your faith and hope.

My deepest respects,

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words.

"May he find shelter in the Creator's hand and may the light look on him with favor."

Harriet, please know that you are not alone in your grief and any support I can give (however little) is yours. My prayers and heartfelt condolences are sent to you and all of RJ's family.

It is sad to think he is gone, but at least he had such wonderful people to help him through and to be with him when the Lord God called him home. My strength and love I send you all, my prayers as well.

He is gone but will never be forgotten, as long as there are books and places where great stories can be read and heard, RJ will live on for future generations.

Wash the spears - while the sun climbs high,

Wash the spears - while the sun falls low

Wash the spears - Who fears to die?

Wash the spears - No-one I know!

Rest in peace, RJ. You were an inspiration and the world has grown darker without you.

I've been following this blog since almost the beginning, checking for updates regularly, and hoping against hope that all would turn out well. Even though we knew this might happen, it is disapointing all the same.

Robert Jordan has been my favorite author since I first discovered The Wheel of Time in a local library in the summer of 1991. I know that the Wheel of Time will remain one of the best loved Fantasy series for decades to come. I will cherish these stories the rest of my life, and do my best to introduce my chidren to them as well, when they are old enough.

Thank you, Jim, for everything. To Harriet, Wilson, and the rest of the Rigney family and friends, my thoughts are with you at this time.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Ephesians 6:13-6:17

Although I knew the man only through his works, I feel like I have lost a friend. A constant companion, to a once messed up teenager. The above for some reason always reminded me of RJ.

My deepest sympathies to all his friends and family.

Always,

Michelle

Harriet,

I was touched through this blog with words from RJ and Wilson, and the Poem that you posted. I will miss the stories that RJ wrote, the stories that I was able to share with my children. I think the thing that I enjoyed most is that I could share the story with my children. So much of the fantasy writing is inappropriate for them, I always considered that a gift.

I once drove 3 hours in a snow storm to bring a case of his newest book from my bookstore to a store he was signing at, just so that I could get mine signed. I sincerely wish that I could have stayed to meet him too. His writings and the sense of honor and duty that he put forth in his books have influenced me more than anyone in real life and he will be missed.

My condolences to his family and friends. May the creator bless and shelter them and in an age passed, an age not yet come, may the Dragon be reborn to us to lead us again.

My condolences to ALL. I am sure that some where He is finally riding that Harley with the wind in his face and a song in his heart. He fought one devil of a great fight. We recently lost a very close family member so know that while it is "we" who are sad and missing them. "They" are having the time of their lives. Again, best wishes to "ALL" the family, friends, and fans.

I first discovered the Wheel of Time shortly after high school in 1992. It is no stretch to say that every new addition to the series has been like a long awaited reunion with an old friend, a friend that has been there for me, my entire adult life. That friend has passed away, and the world is a darker place for it.

There are neither beginnings or ending to the turning to the Wheel of Time. May we meet in a future life. Rest in peace, Robert Jordan.

A true tragedy,

A one of a kind man has left our world, it will not be the same. One of the greatest authors i have ever known. It really is sad.

Good luck to the family, may his passing not weigh down your soul for too long.

Love and Peace,

Nick

Youre life is eternal and youre death is only an horizon
