wow. I am a bookseller by trade, I am a deep lover of high fantasy, raised on Martian Chronicles, Robert Heinlein, Tolkien and the like. I was introduced to Robert Jordan as a freshman in High School. I was fifteen years old. I am now almost 30. Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series represent the single most ambitious work of High Fantasy since Tolkien. I cried when I read this news, and I am as I am writing this quick post. enough said, ride the wheel Robert, ride the wheel. We will all see you soon enough.

RJ's books have been part of my life for nigh on 17 years. I'm now almost 35 and am still held spellbound with each re-reading. More than that though, my gratitude to RJ is not for his books, well-loved though they are, but rather for the friendships he has helped create. So many lives have been touched, so many burdens lightened because of the bonds we forge here at Dragonmount and other WoT sites, none of which would have existed without him. That is his truest legacy, the ties that have been forged. I would not otherwise have found one who has become such a joy in my life that I don't have the words to express it.

To Harriet and his family, my deepest respect and condolences at this difficult time. He was blessed to share his life with you. Thank you for allowing us to share a little in the life of one who was so dear to you. He will be sorely missed around the globe.

My sincerest condolences. I can only believe that, as much as he touched the lives of those of us who never knew him closely and personally, that your own lives were enriched by his presence, and that if he had things to give to the world, that much of it came from the support and love of those who were closest to him.

I thank him for his telling of the hero's tale. Some may lament not knowing how it will end, but if they've truly been reading his work, and seeing what he tried to convey, especially on deeper levels than simple entertainment, they should know in their hearts where the story goes from here.

Mr. Jordan will be sorely missed by many, some for reasons selfish, some for reasons personal, and some for reasons beyond either. But he's someone worth missing, and that means, ironically, to my mind, that what he shared with his loved ones, and the world, is something special, and that he brought something to others that was meaningful and right.

I do not know, for sure, whether my prayers are to what your family would think of as God, but C.S. Lewis taught me, as a child, that all true prayers from the best places of our hearts all go to Aslan, and so my prayers are with all of you.

I am so sorry for your loss, my husband also died from the same disease almost two years ago, he also served in viet Nam the same years as your husband, I am fighting the VA as we speak they will not recognize Amyloidosis as a result from Agent Orange though so so many soldiers have now all come down with this rare disease. It is horrible how they turned their backs on this, they are very well aware of this but refuse to help. There is a website solely about these poor men who are all dying from this horrible disease. We must ban together to be heard.

I remember the first time I picked up The eye of the world 16 years ago. Over the years his books have brought great pleasure and joy to my life

It is with the sincerest regret that I heard of Robert Jordan's passing this morning. Along with Tolkein, Robert's books inspired me and helped me through one of the hardest times of my life. I wish his family all the best.

I would like to say that, in all of my life, in all of the novels and literature that i have read, not one author has effected me through his words, more than Robert Jordan. Mr. Jordan's passing has brought great sadness not only to me, but to my entire household, and a great number of my friends.

I had the great honor of meeting Mr. Jordan and Harriet several years ago at a convention here in Atlanta, and i was absolutely astounded by his warmth and graciousness, and the love of Harriet shone brightly to anyone who could but see.

We all offer our deepest condolences to Harriet and the family. We will miss Mr. Jordan greatly, but find solace in knowing that his fight, and his pain is over and he shall rest peacfully to be revered, loved, and embraced in our hearts.

I'm absolutely gutted to hear this.

When I first heard this I was in the process of re-reading his books again. I was actually quite devastated, I couldn't help but think about what i would do if my loved one was in the same position. At that moment I stopped caring about whether or not the book would still be published. Its only when you really, truly realize what even just thinking about something that bad happening to you would do to you that your heart truly goes out.

And mine does, I truly wish the entire Rigney family the best of times and hope that the grieving process goes as smoothly as possible.

I've never posted here before, but I've read every book in the Wheel of Time series, at least the ones that have been released. I've been trying to acquire them in hardback over the past several years, and have a feeling that will become much more difficult in the future...but so be it.

People constantly compare Robert Jordan's vision and breadth to J.R.R. Tolkien. This is perhaps true, but I feel that Mr. Jordan blazed his own trail through the literary world, instead of following in anyone else's footsteps. He was a writer of unequaled skill and passion.

Robert Jordan was a man in every sense of the word. By reading an author's books, you come to know/understand that author to a certain extent. Mr. Jordan put everything he was into those books. He understood men, he understood women (at least, as well as any man can). He understood the interaction between the two sexes, and was able to portray that SO well in his books. When Nynaeve shakes her head and calls Mat Cauthon all manner of names for being a pig headed fool, she's absolutely right. When Mat Cauthon rolls the dice, and takes the Band of the Red Hand on a little "expedition", it's exactly where he belongs. When Faile t'Aybarra masterfully manipulates her husband Perrin into becoming the leader/king he's meant to be, while all he wants is to be a simple blacksmith, and do what needs to be done...all the while conversing with wolves? Elayne, Min, and Aviendha agreeing to SHARE Rand 'Al Thor, for god's sake, while he's trying to keep from going mad due to the taint on Saidin...

Then, the Aes Sedai...there is so much symbolism inherent here. The Flame of Tar Valon is half of the Yin-Yang symbol. For those who don't know, Yin and Yang are oriental concepts. A circle, divided in two. Half is light, half is dark. Half is good, Half is evil. Half is male (saidin) and half is female (saidar). Alone, great things can be accomplished. Together, amazing things are done...the Stone of the Tear, the fortress that stood for 3000 years, and never fell.

Saidin, the male half of the One Power, is a molten river, raging and churning, and must be FORCED into submission by the man who uses it...otherwise it kills him.

Saidar, the female half, is akin to a rose bud opening petal by petal, and must be allowed to flow as it will. If forced, it will not come, and if embraced too strongly will burn out the woman who let it overcome her.

The nuances of real life, folded and wrapped into these stories are what made them so good. I am saddened that I will never know how Rand defeats the Dark Lord, and if Egwene was able to unite the White Tower, and sisterhood of the Aes Sedai under her, and become the Amyrlin that the world needs. I want to know WHO DEMANDRED WAS MASQUERADING AS! C'est la vie, though...

Robert Jordan died today. I never met him, but know enough about him to know that the world is a sadder place than it was. To his loved ones, my heart cries for you.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass.

What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

I didn´t quite believe this when I first heard. It´s difficult to process. I´ve read mr Jordan´s/mr Rigney´s books for twelve years, since I was ten years old, always waiting eagerly for the next installment. His work affected me more than I will probably ever know. I didn´t know him personally, but I loved his stories, and he´s a person I´ve always thought of as just being there, an amiable fellow writing stories, collecting pipes, and doing the other stuff it says he loved to do on the flaps of his books, in a big house across the ocean. I thought of him as an imaginary uncle, I guess. I wish the people who love him all the best. If they don´t already (seems that way) I sincerely believe they will find the strength to cope with their grief. He lives on in the hearts of those who know him and love him, and maybe someplace way up above as well, though I wouldn´t presume to know one way or the other. To the man himself - rest in peace, RJ. You improved my life immeasurably.

To RJ and his family,

I never knew the man personally, but his work touched me in a way that many loved ones have not. Take pride is his work and condolence in the knowledge you and are not alone in your grief. Peace
