So disappointed in this. The story is just all wrong.

Pregnant woman killing that many soldiers. Look I get maiden of the spear etc.. but why go so over the top?

Showing Rand channel in retrospect??? That’s just such a cop out.

Another needless scene when so many have been cut turn the books… Lan bringing home his girlfriend for dinner??

The love triangle of Rand Egwene and Perrin? Seriously?

Moraine asking for the reds to take Mat?

Fal Dara is a keep with hardly any people in it?

What has Rafe done? I weep.

I concur; it feels like Rafe is just using Wot to write his own story. And to think I waited decades to be THIS disappointed.... I'm still hopeful (silly me) that S2 redeems this fiasco

Also, the muddiness/unintelligibility of dialogue seems to be a common objective complaint.

This is the only series/movie I've had to watch entirely with the captions on because I can't hear any of the lines clearly.

I have also had that problem. I've had to rewind constantly just to catch everything being said.

I'm sorry, I am American; I can't catch certain nuances in that heavy of an accent

    The show keeps getting worse.

That was supposed to be the best episode?

Incredibly rushed at the end. It was almost comedy at the end. Oh we’re off to see the Dark One. … ok then, let’s go. Cool.

     Now possibly 5 dragons??

Why is Loial even in the show?

     Mat left behind???

The ‘political drama’ was so badly acted… more like children squealing on each other in front of teacher.

This is so bad it is shocking.

The dark one lives at the eye of the world now??????

Rafe has taken a flamethrower to Jordan’s work and the story he is telling is childlike and utterly shallow, without cohesion.

I agree. Maybe if I hadn't read the entire series like 8 times, I may enjoy it. But, there are sooo many alterations it makes me cringe

A plausible argument.  Let's see what they do with LotR.

"It's a good story, but we need to do away with this concept of malevolent jewellery.  And instead of Hobbits, our test audiences show that sentient vegetables will be much better received by those unfamiliar with the source material."

    Dude, wtf???!!; Can you elaborat?!!

Since they've added the mystery of who the dragon is, it makes sense from a story structure standpoint to introduce a little doubt for Moiraine here.  She's on a character journey as much as any of the other characters are.

On the how powerful thing...  In the books, male channelers are said to be naturally more powerful than female ones.  The audience has seen Moiraine do some amazing things with the power in the first episode and they see other Aes Sedai use the the power in this one.   By introducing 'Logain is powerful' here, the average viewer can start to get a sense of the different levels in power between everyone.

If it takes at least 2 Aes Sedai to maintain the shield on Logain that shows us that Logain is at least more powerful than any one Aes Sedai.  That is relatively consistent with book lore.

Much of that is spelled out in the books.  The information is just presented to the reader in different ways and some of those ways don't translate well to the differences between reading and watching something happen.

Another good example, I think, is the presentation of the warders in this episode.  Based on comments from Rafe and Sarah, I think it is reasonable to assume that as soon as they decided to include this set of non-book scenes that they reached out to Sarah and said.  "Give me a list from the books of how the warders and their relationships are described."    They then used those descriptions to construct various elements of the fire scene.

Just because they change things and move things around doesn't mean that they cannot bring things forward to put things back on track or incorporate information in the present that we wouldn't learn for several books.

When Logain was brought to Camlyn; he was guarded by 13 Aeis Sedia. Because that is what it took to subdue him. How in the world can only two hold him?!?

  7. I feel like if I follow every episode as it comes out I'm going to be overly disappointed. I may have to step back and watch the entire ensemble all at once. I am too much of a book nerd and have been for the entire series. I feel like I am being disappointed at every turn from the deviations from the books.

Introducing Min that early on would very spoilery though considering they want to have a DR mystery. Besides the budget for Baerlon would also be an issue.

I guess I get it. However, she is a very integral part of the story. I'm also concerned how they're going to bring in Bayle Doman. There was a lot that Matt and Rand learned on that ship. That held them through a lot during their journey. Rand's flute playing is important because it shows him trying to control his dark side. Where did he learn how to play the flute if not from Tom's teaching?

    Running thoughts.

    • I like Logain. Curious who his "madness memories" are. Considering in Ep 1 there is a clearly defined person.
    • Also kinda interesting that when "calling" the source it seems cleanish...but then when telling it what to do the taint just...slides over it like a sheath. Kinda neat interpretation. Leads men to maybe thinking... "THIS time it will not be t...oh no its still tainted. Oh wellz".
    • A shield weave...something new in appearance from the power we have seen before. Looks like a fish net. Love it. An actual "difference"
    • I like seeing a different Aes Sedai and Warder relationship.
    • Loving the talk about the Greens. Very much like peacetime soldiers spoke of the time before major global conflict. "I thought it was so heroic. The Battle Ajah, warriors trained to defend humanity from the Dark One at the Last Battle. But I never thought I'd see it myself."
    • Heeeeey, look at Rand being a leader. Attaboy! Use that bow knowledge my dude.
    • You are welcome around our fire, as long as you promise not to shove anyone into it. HA.
    • Mmmm, drill home that internal moral Axe conflict - bless the Tuatha'an. Advance that plot point like a boss ?
    • Best episodic pacing sofar. It's really slowed down. Much if not more happens here than other eps and does not feel too rushed.
    • tentacle vomit. Thats new. How on earth did Wheel of Time beat anime to that... lol.
    • Thom making a strong pump fake towards Mat this episode in regards to the DR with the story about Owen. I like this for explaining how gentling isn't some kind of mercy. Also...daaaaaaang. Steak knife. Gives Thom a reason to stay with them too. Was wondering how that was gonna go what with the revamp to how they met.
    • Great discussion moment of both what the Bonding is, and what Aes Sedai meant in the old tongue. The sexual innuendo. I get it but. Wow them Greens just come off dripping with it. Also I'm still one of the never bonded Greens at the Tower here. I'm too much of a pain in the ass lol.
    • Wooooah, for a second I thought Matt had gone full monster. Maybe he did what with tenty-vomit back in frame...but then he full on Glee posed against that Fade. Did he or didn't he...oh man...getting that Scooby Doo twitch.
    • I would like AMAZON to partner with Coleman to make tents like the Greens and Reds have. I love those.
    • Nyn with the Old Tongue. Impress Lan a bit whydontcha
    • The arrow scene is cool now that I see the second half. Thanks Green Neo ?
    • Green Channeling is much more utilitarian. I like this.
    • Seeing a warder react to the loss of his Aes Sedai. Dang...I felt that pain.
    • Well...shit (the explosion)
    • Hard fake to Nyn as the DR now. Thats TWO pump fakes in the same episode. Further reinforcing the fact Rand will still be the DR. Why? Because they have yet to ever explicitly say he will be. Thom: its Mat. The AS in the camp: Its Nyn. Eg was hinted at early on. Really only Perrin and Rand have not been hinted at. Dem boys just Angry and Strong. Plus it Indicates Nyn is POWERFUL. Which - was never actually in question. But new viewers are gonna see this come to Jesus moment and be like... Oh Em Gee..its her huh!?
    • Gentling...hooooly heck.

Curious how it will play out considering logain held the madness at bay long enough to begin training Ashamen

No official info on Elyas and Bayle. Min is in Fal Dara and we'll see her in episodes 7&8 I guess.

Min was in bearlon(SP), but that was totally passed by. There are so many changes I am trying to get a grip on the direction... Great show if you aren't a book nerd.....

I very much hope that it will be shown in a flashback. Could also explain was Rand was perturbed after reaching the village and in the second episode.

In the book, nynaeve said she could not heal him, Thom, suggested he be brought to the winespring inn. There he hinted at Moraine abilities and Warned Rand about the cost of her assistance. To me these are very pivotal moments in the first book. I do not think they should have been excluded which they were

  12. Avid fan of the book series. Just watched s1 E1. Kind of confused and disappointed on the point of view and the adaptations from the storyline. Not sure if I am just expecting too much to stay with the original. There are a couple things that I do not like oh, and do not see how they can further the storyline. First and foremost among them would be that parent is married already oh, and there is no master and mistress Luhan. Also, where is Thom Merrilin?? Did I miss something?!!
