Likely, the beginning of the Breaking began when saidin became tainted by the Dark One's touch. But that wouldn't have happened had Meirin never attempted to seek another source of power. Im sorry that I've gone way off your original topic of the descendants of Manetheren. As they say, the old blood runs deep in Manetheren. Daishar Manetheren. Mat has the memories (a "gift" from the Aelfinn) but Perrin carries the flag. Maybe we should consider Perrin as a direct descendant of Aemon. -

I think it's fun that it might have been the beginning of it. That takes my mind somewhere else. Did I miss something in all of the reading I've done that would point to LTT's death as the moment that commenced the Breaking? Or, was it already happening and his death was just another point when the One Hundred Companions, the other male Aes Sedai and himself, began wreaking havoc? Is it up to us, as scholars and historians, find evidence of the beginning of the Breaking? I always thought the beginning of the Breaking of the World began when Mierin Eronaile bored into the Dark One's prison, seeking a new source of power. If she hadn't done that, the Breaking might not have happened. -

Somehow, I always attributed Lews Therin's suicide as the END of the Breaking of the World. I have a lot of rereading to do. -

Why did you pick the Grey? I'm a Yellow, but, if I didn't enjoy Healing, and learning new ways to Heal, I would have picked Grey, too. Negotiating, bringing two or more parties together to see past their differences, finding compromises...it's another type of Healing, right?

Light! I couldn't feel more welcome. I've got the warm and fuzzies. 🥰 I first started reading the books in the 00's. Maybe 2008? Waiting for new novels was excruciating but worth it. I started rereading when I saw Amazon advertise the series. My favorite character is Olver. He's an incorrigible little rascal and I cry everytime reading how he saved the Horn of Valere and blows it just in time. I'd probably be an Aes Sedai but more like Anaiya. I don't have the heart to be a schemer. Secrets make me feel dirty so, I'd likely not be a very good Aes Sedai. 😉 If there were such a thing as a Wolfsister, I'd like to be one. I wouldn't dare pick a favorite book from the series. As soon as I did, I'd remember why another of the books is my favorite and round and round I'd go. But my favorite moment I've already told you about; Olver blowing the Horn. Or, maybe when Rand finds himself on the peak of Dragonmount, finally freeing himself of the Dark One's influence. Actually, it could be when Egwene saves the Tower from the Seanchan. But, I really like the part when Mat buys Akein for Tuon and presents it to her. See, here I go...I could list a dozen more and still have another dozen favorites. I'll be popping into the chats and other fun stuff soon. I like to lurk for a bit, read the room, if you will. I am very much looking forward to getting to know everyone better.

There's so much fun! I can hardly find it all! Embracing my dark side would be interesting. Everyone here is so kind and welcoming. It's incredibly generous for people to comment "shortcuts" on intro pages, especially considering the detailed posts others have made (which I am certainly also reading!), about how to get started here. I'll do my due diligence as a new member, that's only fair as I'm coming in on the backs of so many engaging and fastidious members, I just hope that in my excitement to engage, I can temper my overzealousness (Who want to be a Whitecloak, amiright? :).

Samarah replied to Blackbyrd's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
The WoT is really a hero's journey with multiple heroes and the TV version should have started with that: the heroes from Emond's Field. Maybe we didn't need Egwene as a 9 year old being the "best water carrier ever!" as a start, but one could think the gist of the story was about Moiraine and the Aes Sedai viewing the TV series. The opening scene being the Reds defying Tower Law and gentling Owen. Then, it throws to Egwene getting her braid and being guided by Nynaeve. We dont even see the ta'veren, Rand, Mat and Perrin until the Winespring celebration of Egwene's induction to the Women's Circle (Im guessing). We don't see Thom AT ALL! I agree with most people here. It's difficult to animate a novel series. You can't include every character or storyline. But, if I were to try to condense WoT into theatrical content, I'd identify the 10 most important characters to the story, the eight most important plot lines (an episode per season) and try to remain as loyal to the canon material as I could. Eye of the World 10 MVP's Rand al'Thor Perrin Ayberra Matrim Cauthon Egwene al'Vere Nynaeve al'Mera Moiraine Damodred Lan Mandragoran Thom Merillin Padan Fain Min Farshaw The Eight Plot lines: Episode 1: A brief intro to the top 5, per canon Escaping Emond's Field Episode 2: Travels from the Two Rivers to Shadar Lagoth and getting separated Episode 3: The 3 groups' travels, per canon Episode 4: More traveling Episode 5: Reunion in Caemlyn (not Tar Valon!) Episode 6: The Ways to Fal Dara and Padan Fain Episode 7: Fal Dara, days through the Blight Episode 8: Showdown at the Eye of the World I would make it a 10 Episode series to stay closer to canon. But, 8 seems to be the magic number in Amazon series. The Amazon series seems to revolve around Moiraine and the Aes Sedai instead of our 5 heroes. Which is an utter shame. Did the creators even read the books? And I'm gonna go ahead and make some people mad (though I hope not) the Dragon Reborn could only be a man. That's obvious to anyone who reads the books. The only character that twists a soul's gender is the Dark One. I think that's on purpose. -
I'm currently rereading the series, I'm on "Crossroads of Twilight". You know what has helped me re-imagine WoT? The graphic novels. "Eye of the World" is fully published, as is the prequel "New Spring". "The Great Hunt" has several issues but the next one isn't due until October of this year, I think. It's been really fun to see that world illustrated. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read them all. But I think I understand what you're saying. The more you reread, the more you get. Thus, the genius of Robert Jordan.

Hello! I'm new here but I've been looking around and really like what I see. I'm on my third reading of the epic series WoT (currently reading "Crossroads of Twilight"). My first turn was in the early 00's. I really enjoyed the series but there are so many books to read that I didn't get around to my second reading until Amazon released the WoT series. While it was fun to see some of my favorite characters come to life with their amazing casting choices (except for Mat...I have thoughts), I was a bit disappointed in how the writers and creators chose to introduce Randland. The opening scene introduces the Red Ajah and not Emond's Field. The series finally gets good in season 3 and then they go and cancel it! Sigh. But I digress... I'd love some tips on how things are run here. If I were an RJ character in the Wheel of Time, I would be Samarah of Arafell, Accepted in the White Tower striving to be a Yellow. My family are farmers, south of the Blight but always wary of Shadowspawn. I've already eyed a training Warder that I have my heart set on. I'm not complicated. I just want to heal people. That's my only ambition. I hope to find community here. From what I've seen, it's pretty great. By the Light, Samarah
